Because he plays as the plus one in defence and around the wing and doesn't pick up anyone. Like McLean he floats around getting easy possessions and does nothing defensively.

Oppositions don't worry about them because they don't hurt you.

Too old and too slow. Not part of the future.

I know you are being sarcastic but I think both your points are correct.

He should have made changes to the list last off season. It was all too obvious what needed to be done. Needing half a season to look at each player doesn't wash when it was so so obvious.

Then Mick ,Swann and Sticks started talking up cutting the list midseason. Was never going to get good results on the way home but I would suggest they would have all given up hope by then so they probably deserve a little slack there.

MM presser interesting but accurate. Leadership a massive concern as a team.
Strategy - acknowledged & accepted by the players but failed to be carried out from the 1st quarter. Would be interesting to have the boys sign off on their demands pre-match & rated post match for the world to see to see results. Lazy & non defensive traits would be common.

Yes Micky we've all heard it before, it's not your fault or responsibility.

He's done a good job at destroying a few careers, some will get picked up/traded for and will make fools of us.

i hope like hell its part of a grand plan because i am trying to work out why we would go into a game against a bottom 4 side and play the following

cachia on griffen
curnow on cooney
armfield on murphy
gibbs most of the time on addison either at half back of back pocket
yarran sub

this is after dropping/losing 3 midfielders before the game and not replacing them with any real run/ball winning power.

i realise its all hindsight but thats a pretty negative mindset & was only ever going to lead to us chasing tail.

Tag tag tag

Apparently Ratten was too negative as well.

It isn't hindsight....the 3 mids out none in was being discussed openly in the pre match thread.

Apparently you’ve missed the pressers how we need to be more defensive.

We don’t need to score anymore to win.

It’s our new game plan that will take aussie rules by storm.

Thanks Psych. Totally agree.

Unaccountable footy from slow blokes who need to be close to their opponents because they lack the pace to make up ground when the ball is in the hands of their opponent.

I like all the positives Scotto and Brock bring but there's a defensive side of this business which needs attention too or we will be exposed time and time again.

Thanks the psycho. However the 2 you mentioned have most probably been our handful of better players this year? Hence why we r flowered.

youre falling in to the trap of ratts
defensive doesnt mean play with defenders
means everyone runs 2 ways.. something ratten never understood.

he allowed the main bananas to run around without caring about midfield pressure

its doing it TWO ways with your run.. how many times do we have to explain .. defence isnt about your last line.. or defensive inside 50...

Thats Rattens territory

e created a list of players ust on that singe philosophy

HBFer types proves it

Let's talk reality, we have gone backwards under mickey mouse. Not only that, players have gone backwards in development under him.
Only a couple have improved, this was worse than the gold coast loss last year, I'm suspending my AFL membership next season and expect our membership numbers to fall until he's gone. You can blame the board, president and the boot studder but malthouse makes the on field decisions and they have been shit from day 1

Look I don't know this for sure (but then neither do you), but for arguments sakes - and let me play devils advocate here - lets assume the reality is the list was felt to have hit their ceiling with fifth and Mick (and the club) thinks the list is too soft and too front runnig and so needs to develop a more defensive edge to go forward, and that's why we are playing Simpson down back and are playing more defensive in many other ways (young mids used as taggers, more defensive game plan) BUT the players, not all but a significant amount, are struggling with this change.

Where does that leave us? Abandon the plan or overhaul the list to find cattle that will toe the line?

I'm not in the inner sanctum so I don't know what's going on but I suspect it's something along these lines

OK, how about I play devils advocate as well.

We have a board that appointed a coach 5 years ago based upon the fact he was a Carlton person. No process other than appoint our mate.

5 years later we have a board under pressure who appoint a big name coach to take the pressure off themselves. No process again. (Remind you of Carlton circa 2002?) Synbad talks about Rattens coaching philosophy being about "give it to the champ". Well., the board's just done the same thing. Handballed the club to Malthouse and hoped like hell he will drag them out of the shit.
Unfortunately, Mick isnt in it for the right reasons. His motivation was to prove Collingwood wrong. He didnt give a rats arse about coaching us.
Even he knows his heart isnt in it.

The funny part is, Collingwood werent wrong. Buckley has given opportunities to many more kids than Mick was doing (Which apparently Mick was good at) :?
Collingwood took control from Mick because they could see the autocratic role is insufficient in successful clubs. They could see that progressive and successful clubs like Sydney and Geelong are moving away from our archaic recently introduced structure. (Give total control of an AFL club to 1 person!) And what's worse, Collingwood talked us into giving him the exact same role they'd sacked him from 12 months earlier.

You argument is laughable. Bring in a 60 year old man to try to implement an outdated game style and when the players cant make it a success, you get rid of all the players.
Your constant remarks about the players being weak and soft doesnt hold water. This team has been one of the best contested ball sides in the AFL for years.
Thats not an assumption like your rantings, its fact.
If the change in coaching has made that fall away, perhaps its the change in coaching that should take responsibility.

BV how do you know that MM's is not in it for the right reason? Or he does not give a Ratts arse? Good play on words don't you think?

I'm not falling in the trap of believing Malthouses excuses and bullshit.
The way we attack is defensive and destructive for our midfielders and defence it’s not about our “hbf”.
He is not allowing our ball winners to play to their ability.
He has congested our midfielders with run with players so we don’t give ourselves a chance to attack and our ball winners are caught out of play.
If we can’t get the ball to them (which we can’t) then they are rendered useless.

Scans have today confirmed defender @m_watson010 has fractured a bone in his foot. He will miss the remainder or the season

The team is playing with lack on energy now. Have been for the past month or so.
They got disillusioned with the 4 losses against the top sides and started to not believe in the plan.
Malthouse from there did nothing about igniting them up. He made it worse with no changes, in particular the midfield were we lost complete run and spark. Even worse turned off some of the little spark we had left into subs!

Don't know if anyone listened to Wallsy this morning on SEN. But boy he could have been listening to what I have been saying over tha past 2 weeks. But then I'm dumb and stupid because the oracle and his sheep says so!!!!!! So over this place.

Anyone who has played or coached knows that excuse is nonsense.
1 player doesnt make that much difference. Look at Gold Coast. In their first year they had the best player in the game but they were still woeful. 1 player can improve your stocks marginally but to suggest we were a competitive finals team because of Judd is ludicrous.

Warnock ..... the only player on the ground (both sides) with 0 Marks to his name. Happens more often than not.

Stating the obvious ..... not good enough.

Think MM coulda done a few different things yes, but some honest work ethic and real two way run, no coach or gameplan will fix this lot in 1 season, bad playing culture for too long, some big end of year changes and some time required to get players willing as well as capable of finals footy
