Perhaps the process has been a bit inconsistent the last few years ?

Big game this to learn a bit more about who stays and who goes.....

..already happening i reckon..

Maybe it's just me but I'd find it easier to swallow the 'process' line if we had won a game or two.

Doesn't ring true to me when we allow so many d50 entries and are so easily opened up and scored against.

What is being taught in this process?

At the moment, it just appears to be a process of losing.

Hope it all clicks very soon starting with Sat night.

..there's a whole raft of items in the process, part of which [but not limited to] would be seeing which players on the list are malleable and can withstand pressure games.. ..it's a hard start to the season yes, but for a new coach these big matches are perfect for determining which players on the list are up to the standard we want/demand..

..the very fact that so many of our players, as skilled and talented as they are, are taking this long to adjust to a team defense mindset, is telling..

It doesn't do much good going for extreme speed if we turn the ball over, just listened to Juddy's interview on 6pr and he said that we won the clearances but got hurt badly by turning the ball over, if we do that Saturday night their tall forwards will murder us.

We need to be more patient when moving the ball forward and look for options to create overlap rather than kicking long and allowing the defenders to spoil, the forwards also need to spread more to stop the defenders being able to go third man up, we have to have guys leading up all over the ground, kicking to contests won't and hasn't worked, we are going to have to use the ball well and keep the turnovers down or we are dead.

While it sounds prosaic, the process is an integral part of what we need to do to improve. The other element being passion and intensity.
If we were an absolutely crap team (eg. Melbourne) the priority would be to focus on intensity at the contest b/c you can break even there even without skills.
However, with us, we must get the process right first - like a great musician must first master the instrument before they can tear it up on stage.

Unfortunately for us, the process requires work back, forward and midfield.
Defensively, we do not play man-on-man. Therefore, the whole team needs to understand how to work better with each other, covering for each other, looking after the space etc...
Mids - clearly, if we are winning the taps but losing the clearances, something needs to be done.
Forward - while we may not have the cattle, I suspect having Buddy down there wouldn't help until we learn how to bring the ball in better and learn how to work with each other to create space for the talls and crumbing opportunities for the smalls.

It might sound boring but the process comes first.
It was what was so impressive (cough, splutter, wash my mouth out...) about the Pies in 2010/11. They just worked hard, as a team and were so even across the ground.

Patience.

Totally agree blues8182. Not sure if it's foot skills or panicking under referred pressure or what it is ... we just seem to do it alot.

Most teams that travel to WA are usually 3-5 goals down before the game starts. I don't have the stats to back it up but I see it with my eyes almost on a weekly basis.

Thats your trouble. You base your assessments on your lack of knowledge instead of reality.
Carlton perform relatively well in Perth and I'd expect that to continue.

10 point win IMHO.

Were did I say we are going to lose and were did I say we have a poor record in WA? I just said the home ground advantage is worth 3-5 goals :screwy:

Mitch uploaded an instagram photo with Simon White and a few of the other boys at the airport.

When I commented asking if Whitey was an inclusion he deleted it pretty much straight away.

Probably not a bad thing, as their forward line of Kennedy, LeCras, Darling as well as Cox floating down there will be a fair stretch.

Some stats to consider:

http://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_team_comparison?team1_id=4&team2_id=19

Quote:
Averages:
Freeagles – Frees For 22.7
Carlton – Frees For – 15

Last 3 games at Subi:

Freeagles – 23 -21
Freeagles – 29 -22
Freeagles – 27 -15

Total - 79 – 58
Average – 26.33 – 19.33

I have learnt that when watching the Eagles at Subi to not get upset about freekicks as I know they will get at least 7 more than us.

It's the ones that get paid to them that don't get paid to us for an identical incident that make me

Whereas if we went in with Casboult, Rowe, Walker with Hampson or Kreuzer floating back we would be too top heavy.

Equals about a 3-5 goal advantage before the game starts, lock it in.

Do you mean Warnock (not Kreuzer)?

and by floating back...do you mean into the forwardline? If you mean floating back as a ruckman to support the KPB's how would that be too top heavy?

I was actually having a bit of ironic/sarcastic banter with my son, but yeah would be too top heavy even if it was Warnock or Kreuzer.
