Better personnel available plus accidentally unearthing McInnes, Casboult and Bell has made a world of difference.

If those guys were fit earlier in the season and not injured would it still be an accident?

Yes, according to Brett Ratten this morning when asked about Bell, Casboult, McInnes, White:

"Gee, as a Match committee you sit back and wonder if we didn't cop those injuries, at the end of the year how would we be able to make an assessment of some of those boys?"

That's straight from the horse's mouth: no injuries and guys like Bell, Casboult, McInnes and White wind up rotting in the VFL because there's no proper system to rejuvenate the senior team with younger guys. Amateur hour.

funny was only talking to BS after the game - said exactly that. we went back to russell, thornton, bower, joseph before we gave these blokes a go. but also remember that levi did his knee in the bullies. however better late than never - and with jamo, henderson, laidler etc to come back 2013 is the 17th flag.

normally the highlights are longer because i keep in the replays and things. I dont like them to go longer than 15 minutes or i have to make them 2 parts.

Look - we have no business being in the finals unless we can swing it that we play Collingwood every week.
The last month or so, I've just been barracking for Essendon* and Collingwood to fall over and I'm pleased we could play such and important part in screwing Essendons final chances.

Hey Mel long time no talk,

This year has been on of the most even years I have seen for a long time, I think that we have just as much business being in the finals as any other side in the eight (we still have to get there).

We have the potential and ability to do some serious damage if we do get there, and who knows with the level of commitment and toughness we displayed yesterday we may even be able to match it with Hawthorn, now wouldn't that be nice.

Who is to say that if they weren't injured at the start of the year their VFL form wouldn't have demanded a game in the AFL?

Don't want to sidetrack the post-match, but you need a system a little more sophisticated than just seeing if blokes kill it in the VFL and then bring them up. Was Casboult 'demanding' a game? No. And if Henderson and Hammer weren't injured, I suspect we all know that he never would have been brought up, and he'd be another failure of the development system.

Anyway, as Ratten said: luckily for them we got injuries. It's the only way up from the VFL at carlton.

Levi was also elevated last year before injury hampered his chances of playing seniors IIRC? Yes, he got a game this year because of injuries but you make it however you can, and he's making the most of the opportunities.
Played a beauty today. Bell was also good when he came on.
May have the same 22 line up next week against GC unless any suspensions come from the scuffles.
Would like to ROK play again next week for a full game.

yes, i want to see him again and next week perfect opportunity

I reckon they should rename Essendon* Bombers to the Essendon* Snipers. Can win without taking out a few blokes from the opposition can they!

more appropriate to call em "Essendon* whingers" - it was fantastic to see them appealing and whingeing and mouthing off to the umps. and weren't they tough in the push and shove....not tough at the footy though.

I love how the umps have worked out morefrees, I think he'd need to be raped and pillaged before the filthy maggots would even consider a free.

I guess it's about 5 years too late but I enjoyed the whinging scum having a whinge about it.

Cheating, diving scumbag

Best $21.30 i have ever spent. (cost of getting into the game).
Yet to watch the replay. I found it amusing that the Essendon* supporters were having a go at the umpires, reading the paper today they got 33 frees. geez what more do they want?

They must be sooooooooo happy they re-signed him.

I mean with him, Jetta and Davey they've got a nucleus of hard running, fearless and competitive beasts.

Love watching Bell and Robinson on the ground at the same time.

Loved seeing Robinson run straight in on the quarter time siren to look out for Gibbs, and make sure he wasn't going to get surrounded by Essendon* players.

Loved seeing Bell run straight ahead and straight through Essendon* midfielders.

Please match committee, find a starting spot for Bell as often as you can. That kind of aggression is invaluable, and with 50 games under his belt, you can see him really standing up in big finals games when the heat is on.

Couldn't get to the game yesterday but gave my pre-booked tickets to some carlton supporters who don't get to go a lot. They messaged me after saying how great the game was to watch from the southern. Finally watched the replay this morning.

The first half it was really about scoring through Essendon*'s weakest backline player which is Jake Carlisle. Waite beat him, then Walker showed him up, then Casboult made him look like a total goose. The MC must have realised what other teams have worked out - he doesn't play physical enough for his size. By half time, his direct opponent in the respective contests had kicked a total of six goals against him. After that it didn't matter (and I certainly didn't wish him to roll/break his ankle).

It was so pleasing to see our guys win everything. The hard ball, the defensive pressure, the offensive pressure. Heck we even won the 1/4 time all-in. Hope Robinson doesn't get a holiday against the Gold Coast.

It may not be enough to make the eight, but how satisfying it was to see Hird just stare through the glass watching his team disintegrate into another early pre-season.

My top 5-

5 - Murphy. Class act for the 2nd week in a row.
4 - Kade Simpson. Interesting to note that his jaw is held together with a couple of elastic bands, yet he still commits 100% to the contest.
3 - McLean. He has gotten better each week. I hope he is given another couple of years. It looks like his career peak is just starting.
2 - Waite. Two weeks in a row he has straightened us up. He's fast, has a great vertical leap (lol) and constantly presents. Glad to see that his angry pills have been taken, plenty of opportunities for him to blow up and cost us, but he kept it together. That's a great sign.
1 - Casboult. The guy deserves a big pat on the back. Pack marks, tackles, ruck work. He copped a few hits too (Crameri lined him up in a marking contest and the replay shows no eyes for the ball at all). His best were his goals (the 50m bomb from the boundary just speeeeecial) and his run downs on Dempsey. Fantastic.

Special mention to the back 5 or 6. Duigan, Scotland, White, McInnes and Tuohy. Not the backline that strikes fear into anyone, but they did brilliantly yesterday.

And finally, I noticed that Kreuzer in particular was throwing his weight around yesterday. He was hitting guys off the ball (fairly), loved the push and shove, made sure the opposition "earned" the possessions they got, and for a guy dubbed Humphrey he was trash talking a heck of a lot. I liked it! Maybe he hates the Bombers as much as I do!!

Bravo Blues. Hopefully we keep the intensity at Gold Coast and come away with another 90 point win. Need all the percentage we can get.

Having just watched the game for the second time; we noticed our new Kouta.....Bell; who is quick and fearless and throws his weight around to great advantage to the team.

He should be nurtured and kept in the side regardless of the situation in future.....and....he's a beautful kick.....remember his set goal from beyond 50 metres last week?

Casboult....Collins....Bell....McInnes....White.....a treasure trove of talent was just waiting to be discovered; and we've still got Rowe and Mitchell and Lucas and others in the queue.

I'm excited!.........

I can see him standing up in finals with only a few games under his belt.

T. Bell...finals combatant. Coming to an MCG near you, this Spring. (use one of those american voice over accents, in your head)
