I saw a lot to be pleased with tonight.
a lot of more senior players were just going though the motions which is understandable.
Laidler and Watson - lock them both into the back six i reckon.
Duigian i thought was so so, but got involved a lot, I think the step up in pace surprised him. will be a good depth player.
Setanta, Thorton, your days are numbered.
Austin needs to pull out something huge to retain his spot on the list. Injuries may have robbed him.
Yarran down back was awesome - his pressure was sensational.
Walker will be a tease up forward all year. look out if he ever hands onto one of those speccies. He seems more natural up there.
Twomey i liked the look of - did some nice things, as did kerr.
Kane lucas didn't miss a beat - reminds me of pendlebury
Cachia has a few nice moments but i'm not sold on either of him and curnow just yet. good potential and mature bodies but how are they with pace? good potential on the rookie list.
watson's dash down the wing was the highlight of he night along with yarran's pressure at times.
I'm pretty happy.
I preferred duigan to laidler (though he was quite good too) - so at this stage, we've 'found' 3 new backmen for the 22 - yarran, watson and duigan/laidler
walker & lucas showed a lot of good signs.
casboult got to the right spots but things just didnt happen - think the pace of the game was a bit quick for him (1st ever game in the ones?)
curnow looked good for a short period but then went unsighted for the rest of the match
Early days but we seem to have done extremely well from the draft/trade this year - watson, duigan, laidler, twomey all seem to be top 30 players (ie first 22 or depth).
Watson might not be physically ready but imho, we should definitely play him in the 22 for most of the season to fast track his development. He adds something that we just dont have atm (a long penetrating kick)
