I was there. Nothing to worry about other than Grigg, which may not be so bad, and the report/s. I am not concerned about the result in the slightest.

   about 3 of us here saw the game and most of the rest want to slit their wrists cos we lost ?

i reckon we were at full pelt for the first half of the first quarter and then we shut off

the umpires were attrocious - 7 50 metre penalties in the game

5 to them 2 to us - i think 7 goals resulted from them.

we didnt play at all in the last qtr which was when freo ran away with it - they got a bit excited kicking towards the vocal freo crowd behind the goals, shit they even ran to them after the game like they had won something meaninful

we were witches hats in the midfield - zero pressure at all - at first i was pissed off watching it happen thinking it was poor execution of the zone - i have since realised we really didnt go in that hard at all

i think operative 1 of this game was no injuries

if you want soemthing to be slightly worried about - sandilands murdered us - but he will murder most teams - and jacobs probably did the best out of kruez , hammer and himself in combatting the big mans advantage

even at most of the stoppages we didnt really display any setups at all - freo had 2 men behind sandilands who would tap it back they would then go sideways and then straight forward - no pressure at all

and running out of defence was comical - it was like the dockers had the plague and we didnt want to catch it.

i dont want to sound like that flower hawks supporter and come on and say we werent trying - but i honestly do not think we implemented many if any of the tactics we will see come round 1

if we show the pressure in the midfield against richmond we did yesterday i reckon ratten will storm out of the coaches box with an uzi and mow down the midfielders he would be that angry - yesterday i dont think he cared that much.

and shit yeah it was damn hot , the sun was piercing.

I logge don to the Age looking to see if we had any injuries.
I'm a bit disappointed we have one but pleased we haven't lost someone with a knee reconstruction.
I would have preferred to have won but we didn't.

oh and jordan russell drilled a set shot goal in front from 40 out , he also kicked a beauty on the run from about 50 that went dead through the sticks but was robbed by the incompetent umpires who deemed it a point

fisher drilled a set shot from 45 out on an angle

I don't see anyone slitting wrists. Just one group of people not liking what they've heard about the game, and another dismissing it all as meaningless (although I'm sure would be excited for rd1 if we won).

With the short (11 day) turnaround probably why the midfielders didn't run to much chasing any of the Frockers.

Not to smart by the AFL to schedule the game at 4 pm in the west, why not Friday night

Dont quite understand why if everything else stayed the same, it would be any different if it was played in Melbourne...if anything that would be an even worse loss.

Maybe this is the best sign of all - as a club we are not so god damn awfully desperate to win every flower useless game we play in summer. Maybe finally we have some belief (club not the people posting here).

Didnt we used to be notorious for fielding second string teams and getting caned then putting our real team in for rd 1 and smashing everyone?

I think someone posted it on BF as a joke and SEN reported it as fact.

cant find a link but from the Sunday Telegraph in Sydney

headline " Fevola injured in Blues Loss"

An injury to star forward Brendan Fevola rounded off a miserable night for Carlton after they went down to the dockers in Bunbury last night. Fevola left the ground in crutches and will have scans today to determine the amount of damage done. He crashed heavily to the turf in a marking contest with new dockers defender Chris Tarrant late in the second term. Although he returned and kicked four goals in Carltons loss, his right ankle was swollen after the match and he now faces a race against time to be fit to play in season opener against Richmond at the MCG on thursday week

Make of it what you wll

Carlton gave Nth a football lesson in Round 1 of the CUp
Nth gave Freo a dicklicking in Round 1 of the Challenge
Freo has a comfortable win against Carlton in Round 3 of the Challenge.

What does this all mean? Sweet flower all...

Meh.

After a few credible performances in the NAB cup, its good to be reminded about the realities of the game. If you're not at your best, anyone can beat you.
it's better to have a reality check now than round 1.

We'll be primed and ready to go.
