It's articles like this that remind me that while our playing list is improving, SO ARE MOST OTHERS.

If Essendon* are relying on Courtney Johns to step up and rescue them in 2007 we really have a fight on our hands in the battle for Draft Pick Number One. :P

I continue to be stuck between the idea that it shouldn't be necessary and the lack of confidence I have. If we were showing tangible signs of improvement would any of us need it? If we were making headway into the financials rather than being $500k under at full sponsorship and only when 32,000 people sign up wouldn't we just trust the Club?

I asked 10 Carlton fans of different passion levels what they thought of the letter and the pitch by Smorgon. All were satisfied, leaving me as the only one still scratching my head about what wasn't said, what was assumed etc.

Perhaps we're all rabid fanatics.

It's how Honest John and Dubya keep getting back in

Yes, but in our case its Common Joe versus Rabid Fanatics. If its just the Rabid Fanatics arking up then there is minimal chance for change.

If anyone wants to seriously consider a challenge for the Club's leadership they will need to appeal to the Common Joe out there. The other strategy of asking nicely with a bag of cash appears to have failed. Common Joe has just seen an influx of talented kids and is excited about the other 10-15 good ones we've got coming through. Common Joe most likely sees the past as a dark period slowly moving behind us.

Collingwood has just appointed a full time recruiting manager for WA.
Hawthorn are looking at appointing a full time recruiting manager to cover SA and WA.
Eventually the clubs with money will dominate the competition just like we did when they figure out how to best gain an advantage. Every day that ticks over is another day we have to catch up.

The 'Common Joe' Carlton supporter gets fed like a chook on a very strict diet. They get fed just enough 'info' so as to hopefully produce an egg (membership). They know stuff all of what's going on at the club. If not for the likes of Caro they'd know less than stuff all ...which as we all know gives the likes of Caro and her colleagues enormous powers of persuasion.
Shit, the club don't even tell us the length of player contracts anymore!!
The more issues get kept 'inhouse', the more suspicious & concerned I get.

Most people are happy to leave things in the hands of others... theyre happy enough to just live out the day not worrying about tomorrow.. they dont want to be forced to think... they dont want anything confronting.. and they will live each day like this year in year out...
Its easier...

Just look around you...

Time to raise the issue again. Pagan openly blaming the board for Zantuck not being drafted on SEN. What the flower is going on in this place? The gap between board and board and board and football department/leadership group is growing larger and larger. SEN obvioulsy trying to get a response from Smorgan as to Pagans comments.

Good on the board for what? Creating another public spat, giving the media more ammo to run with.

Why did he do that? Another example of the "leaders" of our club failing to keep issues inhouse. Another example of how our club had ended up like Maguires leg. Broken and infected, only problem is the doctors are saying everthing is rosy.

well even if the Board did make the decision - which it is unclear at the moment - Pagan speaking out about it shouldn't be occurring. Admittedly it can be hard to dodge the issue once a peanut like Zantuck comes out whingeing in the press...Wayne Hughes was on SEN and basically said he chose Cloke to replace Bryan so Zantuck a non-issue in that regard

Pagan said "he was told No Zantuck"....KB assumed the board...I'm betting it was a combination of Hughes, MC and Board edict.

As such it's not a board decision....but it does show a poorly functioning football dept.

get rid of this f----n stupid board...bunch of clowns that are not helping our cause...

what pagan says does not warrant any criticism...questions need to be asked of the board...a total circus with no one really knowing whats going on...

Just on 3AW. Denies board had any involvement in decision. :?:

If it was WH then there should be no qualms. If it was the board then Sticks must have been an influence as he has dual roles.
