Geez verbs, are you just arguing for the sake of it?

Fact (not opinion, but FACT): Frank has NEVER in his entire time posting on TC, TBV and before that some site I can't remember... NEVER once personally attacked, insulted or otherwise denigrated a fellow poster.

That's not opinion, that's not some 'unfair' subjective judgement. That's just the way it is.

Frank's above the petty crap that many posters seem to want to indulge in, and he's not worthy of being called a 'clown'.

Neither is any other poster who has a good record of contributing meaningfully to any fan site with good content over a lengthy period of time.

I know some people think it's 'unfair' that person A got warned while person B didn't, and person C always slags off at person D and gets away with it while person D slags off at person C and is immediately banned and anyway he started it and...

All I can say is: don't indulge in personal sniping of any kind, and you can happily ignore all the unsavoury crap that goes on around you. Get involved, and you're just acting like a 10 year old and you really can't complain when you get caught up in a volley of petty insults.

So calling someone a clown is wrong on all accounts? or just for a few other posters? What's going to happen from this day forward???

:?

And you wonder when people get frustrated because it's rules for some and is different for others? FFS...MAKE YOURSELVES CLEAR FOR ONCE!!!

I thought I make myself clear?

People who indulge in personal insults drag the site down.

These people (every single one of them) should try harder to direct their venom at the argument, not at the person.

Personally, I couldn't give a rats about who started what and who did what to who first and why he got punished and he didn't. It's childish and most of the people who get caught up in that sort of stuff are well past puberty and should know better.

If you want a schoolyard monitor, or some sort of Super Nanny, to keep things all nice and fair, then you're probably in the wrong place. This is a fansite run by volunteers getting paid nothing to provide us all with a place to Talk Carlton.

Of course it's going to have faults. It's an amateur fansite. That's why we develop this thing called tolerance. It helps us to accept perceived faults in others, and to deal with a less-than-perfect world.

So can we, or can we not, call each other clowns? That is not clear at all.

Or is it only Frank and you who we can't call clowns?

Or is it only me who can be called a clown...because I've been called much worse by so called "respected" posters here.

You're not going to get a definitive answer to that question, because this place isn't set up to police these sort of things effectively. Like Denis Denuto says, 'It's the vibe'.

Of course the moderators here can't stop people from calling each other 'clowns'.

But do YOU think it's ok to respond to a pretty decent post with a counter argument that contains a personal insult? Do YOU think that helps, or hinders, TC maintain itself as an online community?

Hmm...given what has gone on in this place, do YOU think that's a fair question...given you're referencing "clown" as an insult? ...as a moderator, I'd thought you were up to speed.

See - it's a difficult question to answer, isn't it.

In fact, no-one has all the answers.

Time to move on then.

That's it Verbs. No matter what happens, don't offer anything constructive. Answer all questions with further questions.

You should be in politics.

I'm not in politics?

What would be constructive?

No-one should call anyone a clown...though Deano can swear at anyone he wants!!!

Sounds good eh?

What would be constructive? You could start by answering the questions you were asked.

And the swearing thing - I've had my fair share of warnings and 'pull your head in' PM's from mods. Just because you don't see it doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

As I said, that is not a fair question based on the history of TC. If it was a one off, fair enough, but it's been going on ad infinitum. Such a question is worthless in these circumstances, particularly because better posts have been ridiculed much worse with no comment in the past.

So if the question:

"Is it OK to respond to a reasonable post with a counter-argument that contains a personal insult?"

can't even be ASKED...

Then how on earth are we going to come at an answer???

Do not choose to be wrong for the sake of being different.
