Yes, they should promote Lance and Kouta as the face of Carlton and then we won't hear any complaints. :garthp:

Kouta should be the main one promoted this week... after this week im sure we should have more than Kouta Lance and Murph..

But see.. some of you dont understand managing an 18 yo kid...

Are you sure it's not just you not understanding the media Synbad? Do you really think that Carlton can dictate to the media what stories they run? From what I can see, Denis probably responded to a couple of press conference questions regarding Murphy and the articles were written from that. What should Denis have done? Not answered any questions regarding Murphy? Made up and song and dance about Kouta to distract the media from Murphy?

If the papers decide that Murphy will sell more papers than Kouta, then the stories are going to be about Murphy, not Kouta. On the website, over which Carlton have more control there has been multiple Kouta articles, and one Murphy one this week. Shows to me that's the message the club is trying to get out.

As far as I know, the club haven't put Murphy up to any press conferences, or interviews. To me that's about as much as they can shield him. The No. 1 draft pick debuting is a story, whether we want it to be or not.

I think Mordan has worked out how the media works.

Swallowing spin is one part of their MO but believe it or not they also set their own agenda.

No Synbad told us that Caro was on our side until a couple of weeks ago. We set the agenda as long as we give them scoops.

Spot on, but it looks like that's been a rare occurance in the last 3 years. :?

Oh well, time to notch up some respectable performances to credit the club with some positive media.

I guess Marc Murphy is one of the few positives the club has at the moment..every other story on the club is negative with another ordinary lowlight on the footy show last night with Collo and this " Age" story which has been blown up as another nail in the coffin for the Collo.
Our friend Mr Fisher didnt do much for us either with his outburst...seen him a few times and heard him rant to his mates and I dont think we need him representing the masses on national TV...

I hope Marc has a great debut but not to the level Andrew Walker had as I feel AW has been judged very harshly since due to the very high standard he set first up...like to see Marc slowly work up to some consistent form much like Cooney and Deledio did rather than start with a bang and have the pressure of being the new messiah and the expectations that he alone will carry us to victory every week..

So, if we gave Caro a couple of morsels, she let us 'set the agenda'?

Dream on boys.

Better spend some time working at a paper.

This week we've had some good press, makes a good changefrom the last 2-3 weeks. I think the article is good, nice sentiments, well said by Pagan.

I also think that selling our young kids by talking about them is one of our better points to sell, so we should continue to do it. It doesn't mean interview Murphy every week, it just means reminding all the fans that finally there's light at the end of the tunnel and we can put the draft penalties behind us. (I'd porefer these to never be mentioned by CFC in public again).

Very positive comments from Denis and I must say pretty unlike the Denis Pagan I've been accustomed to hearing in the media over the past three years. "You give me draft picks and I'll...."

Smart to get it out of the way early by knocking Murphy's debut on the head midweek and take the pressure off his debut. A good way to manage an 18 year old and I hope he gets more time than Russell did in his debut match.

If I ever hear a trumped up line up of nutcases call up talkback radio representing the supporter-base with idiocy, I'm going to call up their switchboard and feign being a fellow moron to get some air-time, then open up the fireworks on the host(s).

It's the ultimate pay-back plan.

John Fisher is

I'm working off the theory that talkback calls are heavily screened based on the station's agenda.

The heat's on Marc Murphy because he's number one draft pick - just ask Travis Johnstone.

M.Murphy-Deledio-Cooney-Goddard-Hodge-Riewoldt-J.Fraser-Headland-Johnstone-Gardiner-Waterhouse-J.White-D.Gaspar-Banfield It's an interesting set of players.

Murphy has even more heat on him because Carlton went to the trouble of talking him out of F/S so they could pick him, the others has no say in being taken #1 ...

Of course Clive didn't.

It was his destiny to be the #1 draft pick.
