I understand where you are coming from Synbad.
I agree that we must plan for the future, and always aspire to get the best for Carlton FC, in good times and in bad. There are no guarantees in life (except death and taxes), and what I point out may seem to you as a negligent position, in that I may be assuming that everything is just dandy and she'll be right mate. I don't believe that leaving our present position to fate is proactive. I'm not suggesting this at all.
I don't want you changing one bit, for me or anybody, and whatever you do I advise you to not subscribe to the thought for one minute that...
"We no longer have to begin planning for the future... everything will automatically fall into place in 3 or 4 years for Walker , Murphy ,Kennedy,Blackwell because on our pay roll today we have Kouta and Lance...". That leaves our future to chance.
I am just focussing on what we have for 2006 in terms of leadership, and the benefits they do bring to the club today, as there is little choice to do otherwise, and I refute your perception that I'm attempting to set you straight. As mentioned I don't want you to change one bit.
The only point I have made related to your summation of our leadership challenges, is the methodology that gives you an outcome of ZILCH. You seem to have missed this. In this, I am expolring the validity of your conclusion, hence I have measured the scenario myself and given reasons why I came to the conclusion that there isn't ,and couldn't be ZILCH on offer from our existing leaders. I will leave the judgement on the validity of conclusions to others, including yourself.
In the meantime as much as I've tried, I cannot for the life of me see ZILCH on offer...or maybe it's your mode of expression that I haven't adapted to, due to my recent and brief involvement with TC. If so, I will catch on with time.
What you are doing for the betterment of the Carlton FC is looking for a brighter future and keeping the bastards honest. That's great and I support this, whether some consider that negative or not, I don't care, I see it just as an alternative opinion. Aim high; and that you do well.
I too aim high too, but just in any business' situational analysis, one must always look at what you have got, as well as what you haven't got. Without the interference of emotions. Neglecting what you have got sometimes results in closing the business down or sell up, because management can't see any light, it's put in the 'too hard' basket. I want a reason to continue to see the light...from a different angle, that's all.
And finally, IMO the light is not 3-4 years away, it's 2, depending of course on what we consider 'light' to be.
Don't go changing.
