That was the moment for me and he did the smother on Geelongs best player at the time Ricco who proceeded to do a hammy and throw his mouth guard into the dugout as he limped off.

That match was the first one when I noticed Hickmott. He did some good things, but by the time he got on the ground the momentum was against Geelong

Talking to a Gelong fan at work the following Monday I mentioned that I was quite impressed with Hickmott. My workmate said that he too likes Hickmott, and told me he'd hardly ever got selected in the starting 18 and felt that for whole season the coaching bench hadn't been using Hicky at all well.

A few weeks later he gets traded.

Funnily enough i watched the DVD yesterday...

Standouts were....Earl in the 2nd ....When the game needed to broken it was his smother and goal....

Peter Dean,numerous smothers but his smother and break,followed by a run and pass to Williams in the 3Rd..

Kouta,argueably BOG...Simply sensational....


Finally....Two anti Blues,Snipers at the best of times....

Sheedy's love child...Barnes...cocked up numerous times including Dean's run..

Brownless.....Weak effort .but none more so when he tried to do Ang over just after the 2nd qtr end....weak...

As an 8 year old, sitting with my old man as he got plastered off Sherry, watching the Blues crap all over the Cats.

I can remember Spaldings smother and goal and my old man going absolutely ape shit when it happened.

Barnes had a pathetic GF record. In each of 92, 94 and 95 he'd been BoG in one of Geelong's early finals, but when it came to the big day he did nothing. He also didn't do much in the 2000 Grannie.

1995 was the first year that I properly started following my Blues.

In the preseason of '95 they visited my home town of Echuca so naturally I dragged all my friends to go watch them have an intraclub game. My best friend who was a Richmond supporter at the time ended up falling in love with Kouta so we followed them around for the whole weekend, we even joined in the Cricket match they held at the sporties club...Kernahan bowled me out with an underarm

They were so care free back then, so welcoming, such a superstar team who, for the most part just pissed on for the entire weekend.

I was 15 at the start of '95 so mum decided that I was old enough to stay at a friends house in Melb and start going to the games, so every home game weekend we would leave school early on thursday hop on the bus to melbourne and get to their training sessions on thursday afternoon. Kouta, Ang Dean and Kernahs all new us by name and we thought we were so special!

All us girls really felt a part of 1995, we spent so much time with them and went to so many training sessions and games and spoke to the boys so much that we just felt like we were the 'in group....

I remember the celebrations at Optus oval on the saturday night when a really pissed Ang was trying to coax us all into going out with him but Kouta dragged him away...Kouta was always so sensible (I would have said no anyway...I was only 16 and I had my head screwed on )

Anyway, for the most part 1995 just upsets me.. It was such a dream come true for me to get so close to these guys who I was just so crazy about, It is mind blowingly exciting for a 15yr old girl to meet her heros and then to get called by name..! Gee Wiz!!.

1995 brings a tear to my eye so I'm not one to watch the '95 granny over and over again. I try and stear clear of the past because now that I am grown up I fear I will never experiance the absolute bliss it gave me back then. I'm now just concentrating on the future and hoping that this new group of players can again make Carlton the champion club that we once were and also may they bring euphoria to some of the young girls out there just like they did us back in '95.

I'm looking forward to winning the next one and I'll watch and savour the brilliance of the 1995 flag after that happens. Better to be looking forward than back, the exception to the rule is the 1979 Grand Final which just finished.

I've been reliably informed that Barnes also played in the 2001 GF. Did 'really well' too, getting three more hitouts than Adam Ramanauskas, four more than each of Dean Rioli and Matthew Lloyd and five more than 17 of his other teammates.

Didn't he also get some hitouts last season, as well? None in the GF, though.

I thought Peter Dean had a "Doull" like season that year.

Today, when I take a close look at my Baggy Green, as I often do, I see mateship, camaraderie and teamwork, and a sense of belonging. I hope that its legacy lives on and the spirit it provides stays strong. Stephen 'Tugga' Waugh - Never Say Die.

I just happened to watch the 95 GF last Saturday.

My favourite moment was the Dean smother followed by a long kick and subsequent goal to Diesel.

Must admit I had forgotten how good a player diesel was.......I don't think I have seen better. An absolute genius.

My cousin had a home entertainment system that allowed you to record a TV program with the radio on the audio track, so I've got a copy of the game on video with the 3AW commentary instead of Ch 7.

In the 3rd quarter, Sam Newman unleashed a barrage of abuse against Geelong. Insipid, weak and gutless were 3 of the approximately 20 adjectives he used.

He wasn't popular down at Sleepy Hollow after that.

I rigged my VCR so it taped Ch7 video with Roy & HG's call.

Classic. Makes a match which is always fun to watch funny too. You should hear some of the crap they lay on Billy Brownless. Rhyce Shaw would be lucky to have copped some of that in 03.
