Carlton by 30+

I really feel confident we have the team that can overrun teams now. I expect that when we're winning we'll win big.

Kouta no chance in the world to play CHB on Petrie.

I don't think the Roos have a chance of stopping Fev. He's clearly beaten Watt on many occassions, too quick for Colbert and Archer (a definite to play on Lance).

I don't believe Rocca and Thompson are much of a threat.

Have a look at what the weagles did to em in the wizzer. The weagles don't have an overly strong backline - but held the roos to only about nine goals.

I have always thought Thompson is an average forward. He showed why this is the case in that game against the weagles. I don't remember him having any impact at all - and he spent most of the game on the pine IIRC. Rocca is a bit better - but he is no matchwinner.

IMO the blues have more options up forward, and whilst we will be pressed a bit in the backline, I still believe we have enough options there to do the job. Our midfield is at least the equal if not better than the roos.
Also if Mckernan is in doubt - they will struggle in the ruck (although you could say they would struggle even if he was playing!!).

Blues by 7 goals. :D

I don't know so much about the match-ups on paper, but we will win, and win well, through teamwork, enthusiasm, speed, risk taking, direct play, skill, accuracy and ferocious tackling. And better coaching.

Did I leave anything out?

If we cant beat the Roos then we are going nowhere. While Petrie, Rocca and Thompson have a big size advantage they have not shown much form as a group and I dont expect them to find it in this game. It will be the usual suspects in Grant, Simpson, Harvey, Wells that we have to stop.
I would expect Fev to kick a bag on the likes of Shannon Watt and I would expect Whitnall to be too good for Leroy Brown.

I rate North as a very average unit with a very average coach and would expect to win well...

Average is being kind and losing to them would be a huge disappointment.

It's a furphy that they start off seasons well, last year they beat Hawthorn and Adelaide (Bottom 4) in the first 2 rounds and they just got over us with some outside interference. Come on...

Carlton will win by 30 points going away, our Midfield is to strong and our forward options are somewaht more potent than Nthss Both Lnace and Fev to kick 5 each

Agree with your margin there BH. We'll be too good for them... even without T/Bird.

I doubt they'll play Kouta at CHB. Norman, Morrell, Livo (and perhaps Prenda) to take on the Talls in the Roos Fwd line.

You summed it up well Elwood. I think their onballers will keep them in the game, but their forward line is over-rated by some on here. Just an average team, a couple key injuries in their mid-field may be enough to see them bomb completely this year.

p.s Laidly is an A grade knob who wants to take over Sheeds' mantle as the biggest dick in AFL coaching

We'll miss T-bird with their tall forward line, but at the same time what their forwards don't mark will come out very quickly.

Blues by 15 for me with perhaps a few guys missing. Good solid start for the season.

I'd be a lot more confident if Thornton was playing...

Having said that if we lost I'd be pretty disappointed. Apart from a couple of players I don't really rate the Kangas highly at all. I don't think we'll thrash them but we should win by a few goals.

This just in...

Corey Jones will not participate in Saturdays match due to a suspect knee.

No more spinning goals this time, Corey!

Our midfield is very under rated even by us at times we should kill them through the middle and on the rebound from defence and then our forward line is way too strong. With the likes of Houla, Lappin, Stevens and Campo rebounding from half back and then adding in Scotland , McGrath, Chambers pushing forward not to mention the negating skills of Mcgrath and Bannister plus our taller utility types of Prenda and Waite our midfield is way too good for the Roos to match. We have quite a good midfield. (top half of the comp)

If we lose it would be purely mental which would be very dissapointing but the wizzer cup showed improvement in our mental abilities so i can't see us losing

I also have backed the roo's for the spoon, with the members screeming blue murder about Laidly's new two year contract about round 10. I think with their forward line minus D Motlop, they will struggle to kick enough goals to match us. Fev 6, Lance 3, win by 35 moving away.

p.s top 4 after round 1

Our midfield will get it done. Fev a Lance will get it done. And i also think even without T-Bird our backs will get it done aswell.
IMO i am happy for Diggers, Norman and Livo to take there 3 big talls, and mayb even that number 15 with angelic looks aswell.
Kouta, as much as i like him, is way to slow to take on the CHB spot on any of there 3 big talls. Keep Kouta in the midfield and in the foward line. Lappin no matter what must play back just to help out with T-Bird gone. Also Lance will be droping back aswell just to also help out.
