What was that sharp, needle studded thigh strap thingo that the albino monk wears under his clothes in the Da Vinci Code?? A Circlet or something?? Maybe you should have to wear one of those whenever you are engaged in unholy Swans related hijinks.

The cleansing pain will remind you of the true faith!!!!!!

and this is why melbourne based supporters are better than interstate supporters.

you would never see me buy a Essendon* membership under any circumstances.

kidding  look - i would buy one if i was interstate for no other reason that it would be cheaper for me to get along and watch afl live more than once in a while. nothing wrong with that aslong as you go as inpartial supporter, unless of course Carlton are playing.

Time for a good old fashioned TC intervention... no wait - we need the resident exorcist.

Clem - I know your pain - I lived in Sydney for a long time and tried to at least support the swans as a second team so I could get a live footy fix every other week, but just found I could never support them!

As for penance sitting draped in Navy in the swans members, its a kind gesture, but the swans fans are insipid. I remember watching the storm get thumped by North Sydney at the SFS one afternoon and hearing that the swans were up by a couple of goals against Essendon* halfway during that huge streak the dons had when they only lost one game for the season.

A mate and I somehow snuck into the members, and as he is a dees fans we shared a similar hatred of Essendon* we stormed in and tried to fire up the members with suggested chants and Essendon* taunts. They did nothing! The swans stuffed around, coughed up the lead and lost the game by 2 goals. Being Sydney sports fans they just ambled out as if nothing had happened. I could not believe it. If the same thing had happened at Princes Park I would have been livid. They should adopt TISM's "I'm into Apathy" as the club song!

Do you think we still need the hail mary's?

I'd never do it...not in a million years...It would be like killing my cat or cheating on my other half....It makes me sick to the stomach...

But some would say that I am loyal to the point of insanity....so I don't speak for everyone.

I think the issue is "why" here.

1) I did it because I wanted to give my g/f something she wanted
2) I did it in order to be able to watch the footy if I wanted to in comfort

Trust me BigBlind, it cuts me, but I guess it comes down to who I love more, my g/f or the Blues.

I've probably been supportive to the point of obsession in the last couple of years, paying for that club raffle that was a few hundred a ticket when I really couldn't afford it, stuff like that. And as such, it really was quite difficult when signing up.

What makes it worse is that now I have a teddy bear that sings the Sydney Swans song in my room because my g/f's dad gave it to me for Christmas...

I'm going to have to find a Carlton teddy bear.

There is one redeeming factor though. My g/f offered to pay for half my Carlton membership :D

Yup. I Understand.

I have certainly done some 'out of character' type things for my other half...he is afterall, my priority in life.

However....if he ever EVER! makes me buy an Essendon* Membership he will pay!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have lived in Sydney now for 3 years and have a lot of mates who go to Swans games. They keep saying that I should sign up just to go to some games with them.

Thing is, I just can't barrack for the Swans (although I do favour them against the Pies, Saints and Bombers). Even in the GF I went to a BBQ and when Leo Barry took that mark, my heart sank. Clearly its Carlton or nothing for me.

Each to their own though,
DH

People, people, Clem especially.
You are missing the point. Why dont you CONVERT your girlfriend. OK so you say you love her. So What! Does she love you?
Then get her to prove it! If she doesn't, well...
I converted Mrs ACT from league to a keen Blues and AFL supporter. It can be done.

Good luck buddy.
