Monsta,

Who did you want to come last?

Its got nothing to do with who I WANTED to come last.. as I said in my first post.. this is only our first training session.. but did I expect Eddie Betts to come last? Hell no. Eddie should have been long gone before lance past the first drink/food station

I love Eddie BUT this effort was piss poor. Not the run itself but the condition he presented himself in.

Sure you might put on 3-4 kgs in 8 weeks off but sheesh he looked to have slapped on 10-15kgs

i hope Kouta and other senior players pull this guy up and let him know what it takes to make it and whats exceptable here. During the break I saw AB running laps around PP a couple of times and i could see the desire and determination in him to succeed. You just sometimes wish that more gifted players like Eddie would do the same.

And enough of this crap about him being a sprinter. Thats a cop out that wouldve been ok 30 years ago. This guy is a profession and for the smallest guy on the team to run last is a joke.

Newsflash Eddie, dont do it again.

I hadnt read this before my last post... DITTO

Has anyone thought of the fact that Betts may be covering up for Whitnall? Surely Whitnall will not be found somewhere up in the front of the running pack, so Betts coming in last takes the limelight.

No.

Dont worry about Betts twitch muscles.. he is the most skillful player on our list and has what hardly any other player has... and thats a super fast footy brain.. he processes the data in a fraction of a second.. and was in much worse condition than that this time last year..

He will be fine..

Jesus people, don't jump down his throat. It was a legitimate question.

In the corresponding Herald Sun article, it claims that Betts really struggled over the last 500m and Cory McGrath jogged back to give him support.

I seem to remember Eddie claiming that he realises that one-trick forward pocket players were a dying breed - he said that one of his goals is to be able to play in the middle, iirc. A goal which has a lot to do with increasing his fitness levels.

It will be interesting to see his condition in the Wiz Cup, which is admittedly a while away.

Yep. The Wiz Cup is the most accurate guide to the coming season's form.....

Hopefully the physical condition he has come back with is an abberation and he usually does take care of his body.
Also hoping that he doesnt have a whitnall/rioli body type which seem to put on fat easily but seem impossible to get ripped. I have a feeling he does have this body type though. :?

He really shouldn't be coming last in the time trial unless he has an injury. The ones who come last should be the big guys. He may have a super fast footy brain which may get him by, but imagine a lean and muscular Eddie Betts with the footy brain compared to a pudgy Eddie Betts with the footy brain.
This scenario is really reminding me of Whitnall.

On a brighter note, Walks was looking pretty ripped in that photo in the age.

Thats a big slap considering you're going off a photo. :?
Betts may have put on 5 kg max but to suggest 10-15 is ridiculous.
He looked lighter than he did last pre season and Eddie doesnt shy away from hard work.

He'll be raring to go when the time is right.

I think that you missed the point, and by a fair margin.

The Wizard Cup will be the first time for me, being an interstate supporter, and many others to see what sort of fitness / weight level Eddie is at after a full preseason of training.

I don't think that I stated anywhere there that i'll judge the season / or players by what transpires in the Wizard Cup.

Pfft, Fevola, Whitnal, Stevens, Betts always towards the end.
Walker, Chambers, Bannister, Prendergast at the front.
This means jack śhit.

Sack Eddie and sack him now.

Comes last in the time trial and as a crumbing small forward he can't take an over head mark to save his life. Don't even get me started on his speed either!

Cool. On a visit, I assume... You should have called...

Anyone seriously stressed about this needs to worry about our bigger problems... We have 10 players that can hit a target... Eddie is one of those...

We have a couple at best that can take a contested mark...

This is not our biggest problem...

Who gives a toss where he finished.

He's a short distance runner at the moment, not an ednurance runner.

IT'S ALL PHYSIOLOGICAL....NO SLOW TWITCH MUSCLE FIBRES....AND THAT MEANS HEAPS OF FAST TWITCH FIBRES.

I THINK EDDIE CAN GIVE UP HIS DREAM OF PLAYING IN THE MIDFIELD.
