A very well written and researched article by Caro. See what happens when she puts the knife away and actually does her job, good journalism.

The bitterness against Demetriou is share by all Carlton people!

Absolutely, and if I ever hear that Demetrispew claims one iota of credit for Carlton's turnaround, in particular with his recommendation of Snowdon's consultancy - I will personally ensure he is unable to father anymore children.

I am all in favour of a pre-emptive strike on this one Agro - send in the A team!!

Good article. Some interesting tidbits in there too, that in hindsight explain a few of the comings and goings over the last couple of years.

I also was interested in this snippet about Carey:

Quote:
It is a link Collins is determined to maintain. The president, for example, was not initially delighted to learn Wayne Carey would be a part-time assistant coach, and only allowed the appointment on the basis Carey would not be paid.

Anyway, great to see Collo is slowly, but surely, getting his ship pointing in the right direction. Oh yeah, and I love Denis!

Dont know who you are JohnM,but you sure nailed it buddy. Was around in those days and it is exactly as you say.Reckon you can run a line through most clubs supporters and there is a common link to them. But not the Blues.Like you say mate,we have got every spectrum of humankind.Good bad and otherwise.Dont matter who you are or where ya from, everyone is welcome at the baggers.Would not have it any other way.................Great stuff JohnM.

Like many of us Mickstar, you'll find yourself saying that quite a lot around here.

JohnM doesn't say much, but when he does its worthwhile paying attention!

Told you so!

:D

Great win by the boys tonight. As Kouta said after the game, tonight was a "stepping stone for better things to come".

Go Blues

It is a good article. Looking at who is not there from the 2002 list reminded me that when David Parkin came back to the club he did a large purge, and spent the next 2-3 years trying and testing a lot of new players.

I found it fascinating last night watching Ratten's body language presenting the medals. You could see the difference in how he greeted the guys he knew as a player versus those who were largely strangers to him. It must have been weird presenting medals to a team you were captain of two years ago and not knowing 2/3s of them.

What is that cliche - you can only experience complete joy if you have suffered the depths of despair. Reading that article reminded me of that horrible day against North when we were at rock bottom. The contempt shown by some players for Pagan was particularly rank given it was a game against his old team. Remember leaving that day feeling pessimistic about the future and angry at the lack of effort. What Denis has done has been nothing short of a miracle; he has players who will run through brick walls for him and has Synbad said he has restored dignity to the club. A statue is not enough - every Carlton supporter should name their children Denis even if they are girls. :)

I'm sure GWS enjoyed the article. I was as guilty as anyone of bagging Caroline Wilson but deep down it was more anger at Demetriou's leaking than her reporting. A very good article that shows how far we have come.

Would it be OK to give people the option of "Denise" for the girls?

I agree... and because he's Denis PAGAN...

I propose a giant totem in the middle of Optus Oval, that the players smear Ox-blood before each match.

Tasteful

It really hurts my head to laugh with a hangover, but, um , yeah, thanks anyway.

I agree ponky. It was also nice to see some big grins all round when Ratts presented the medal to Denis. Campo was beaming when he went up to Ratts, or maybe that was just from spotting mandy in the crowd moments before.
