Harry or O'Keefe is the choice for my ideal structure. Personally, I hope Harry has another week out and O'Keefe gets another run.

Did you see Skull’s run down tackle of the cheats HBF who thought he could run away from him? Skull is just as agile, perhaps more so, than McGovern. The difference between McGoverns best and worst is a chasm, I’d prefer to give Skull another go.

Yes I did see his run down tackle. It was great. But they play different roles IMO. McGovern equal second highest score involvements with 8. Skull 3. McGovern 4 inside 50's, Skull 0. McGovern 297m gained, Skull 88. McGovern equal game high 2 goal assists, O'Keefe 0.
One has the role to provide an aerial contest within 40m of goal/relieving ruck and the other creates more of a mobile option and foot skills inside 50. I thought McGovern played the 3rd forward role reasonably well. The lead-up clunk he took on the wing in the last quarter was a beauty. Exactly what we needed.
So as I stated, Skull is playing Harry's role currently. I don't see room for both with Charlie in the same forward 50.

I'm not saying your thoughts are wrong, just that my ideal structure is different. We're both hoping to see him get another opportunity.

Just listened to Almost Blues Brothers pod and they said Orazio was playing the role Motlop had been playing all season, and Motlop was playing a predominantly small forward role for the first time this year. Hard to tell these things on TV, but interesting if true. Goes to show how a player's role greatly influences our perception of their performance. I did say after the game that Motlop was in favour because he's executing a thankless role to plan. Now he gets the chance to shine and gets praise while Orazio is accused of invisibility. Having said that, all of Orazio's possessions were contested, his DEf% was 100, and he scored a goal, so as thankless tasks go he did all right.

Yes BV , McGovern had a good game . For the Coach who supposedly doesn't make any moves I thought the move of McGovern to the backline in the last quarter was the match winning move . Saved the day he did . Still , that's just me , I like McGovern as a player . McGovern is criminally underrated by Carlton supporters .

What’s Fogarty’s role then? I thought he was supposed to be the defensive forward? I’d rather Fantasia creates and kicks goals.

Maybe that’s why we struggle to kick goals?

One game that I can remember this year as forwards but Young's role this year in the front half this year has been as a defensive forward. Stopping the oppositions best interceptor. Not relieving ruck.
When Harry has been in the side, Harry has played as the relieving ruck most occasions.

Would you not put the ultimate pressure on that interceptor & force him to Harry or Charlie?

If we can get De Koning down to 60-70% ruck, where he doesn’t offer those pissweak contests late in his shift, him & Skull could set up as the deepest forward or get out the back to commit the full back. All of a sudden we’ve got our two primary forwards in the drop zone that we’re feeding 50-60 times a game regardless of who’s there & a deep reference point for the seemingly clueless smalls.

Young's role was to disrupt the oppo's best defender, mostly while Harry was out. It was to prevent the double team as much as possible. You think Lobb, Moore, Barrass or any other key talls are scared of playing on Harry or Charlie? Past record tells me not.
I'm not against playing 2 rucks. It's about having 2 rucks who can both impact forward of the ball. If O'Keefe can do that, great.
But structurally I don't then see a full time role for Harry. As it is we're struggling when the ball hits the deck. My ideal structure is 2 talls, a 3rd tall (McGovern), Williams and a couple of smalls.
Just my opinion.

I get what you’re saying, but McGovern isn’t that 3rd tall that you’re looking for. When the ball hits the deck, he’s a turnstile. If he wasn’t, he’d still be at half back.

I’m getting borderline fervent in my support for the bloke, but I’d bet my balls that Skull is a better ground-level player. We already know that Charlie can be, and if he insists on playing as a half forward, then it might as well be made official.

CHF - Harry
Deepest tall - Skull/De Koning
3rd tall - Charlie

Then assemble your ground crew as it suits.

Charlie isn't a tall, he's a HFF at best, and that is how he plays. We need two talls in the fwd line, Harry & Hudson, one of whom will also second ruck

4th in the AFL for contested marks in 2024. 1st in the AFL in 2023. Equal 5th in the AFL in 2022.
"Half forward flanker at best and that's how he plays?" Each to their own.

Really hoping Weiters Cripps and Charlie get back to their very best.

All aren’t in great form.

Goes without saying but makes a material difference for us.

Out of how many contests? I bet he loses far more marking contests than other "tall" forwards. I submit that we'd get better value from him as a mobile fwd than standing in packs trying to wrestle a mark.

It doesn't help that the umpires let his opponent molest him half the time.

He has no choice but to try and wrestle them off him.

Most defenders in the comp know they aren't athletic enough to beat him one on one, so they might as well take a chance on grabbing him and hope the umpire doesn't pay the free.

Granted, that just highlights the deficiency in our game plan of bombing it long to Charlie in the first place.

I suspect it will be the same team to play WCE. Harry to be given another week off, to see if OKee can take another step forward.

If Ben Campo has another good game in the VFL, he is right in contention to play against North.

Regards Cazzesman

Okeef needs to stay in the team for the rest of the Year! He is going to be TDK's replacement, so give him as many games and get him ready for next year!

As much as I keep hearing TDK hasnt made his decision, I think at the end of the day I have to be realistic that TDK is not going to give up $700 pa or $5M over 5 years.

If he hasn't made his decision to stay, its obvious to me he's holding out and saying nothing like he's been instructed by his manager.

O'Keefe should be playing as the 2nd ruck and 3rd tall forward, instead of Young, and Kemp isn't returning.

Its an investment. He didnt disgrace himself on Sunday. If he starts to fatigue, that's another story. He will need breaks. he's only 20yo.

Near enough 75% game time for 20-something ruck contests. He’s got more to give.

I’d like to see a 60-40 split this week against Flynn & Reid. Wishful thinking, unfortunately.

If TDK Walks, we still need to go & Target a Ready made Ruckman.

The combination of O'Keefe/Pitto is not going to cut it. Pitto is as good as finished and should be delisted end of year.

O'Keefe doesn't look big enough to play 100% Ruck. He needs to bulk up.
