It was essentially an 8 point game (can't believe i said that) with Carlton faeces against the razzle dazzle. Wasn't expecting the complete and utter faeces but thought adulaide was pretty good value

Bloody hell, I thought before the game that the one area we had them covered was the midfield. That turned out well!

I haven’t see us beat these pricks in Adelaide since Simon White’s debut game.

I refer to the 2nd post in the pre-game thread. Such a predictable bunch of soft cauliflower

The difference between our best and worst is totally unacceptable - Geelong had an off night last week and lost by 18 points - an off night for us is 60 points - if we are to be a serious side an off night shouldn’t be a loss like we had tonight.

We’re an absolute joke of a club. This list and coach peaked at quarter time at the Gabba in the 23 prelim. It’s only down from here. Most clubs have far more upside in their list and are far better coached. Our young talent is mediocre

If we don't win clearance we don;t win the game and we got smashed. Thought TDK would have his way with O'Brien but it was not to be.

Cripps, Weiters, Haynes, Ollie, Curnow and Saad a little bit and maybe Hewitt were good, but loads of passengers

Surely Docherty cannot play seniors anymore

There is no way any of these 3 should be playing against St Kilda next week.

And yet we all know that they will, with Lord or white dropped for Evans or cottrell

The other thing is geelong looked like winning or at least didn't look like losing, at various points. Carlton were essentially never in it

This is on the players.
I don’t believe we got Geelong ‘at the right time’. I think we showed how good we can be when we apply ourselves and play as we should.

It wasn’t just that we got smashed in the midfield. It was all over the ground. Our pressure was negligible - and that should be non-negotiable, every time we play.
Dawson, who hasn’t fired a shot all season was suddenly playing like Dusty Martin and Leigh Matthews combined.

We were always second to the ball. We ran to the wrong spots in defence and attack. We played dumb too… having two run to the ball carrier multiple times leaving a spare or two for them.
How many times did Motlop spoil a teammate? How many times did we kick to the opposition under no pressure? Docherty and McGovern in particular.
Last week McGovern hit almost every kick. This week, it was like he had vertigo or something.

I reckon, the solution is in our heads. And not sure how we can fix this. We’ve had a version of this problem for 20 years!

Hopefully, Voss pulls the trigger at selection.

Obviously we were smashed in the middle, but we barely looked like scoring when we did go forward. Adelaide were able to get away with a couple of jobbers in Butts and Keane against Harry and Charlie due to our delivery and their lack of forward craft and movement.
Then the amount of ball their half backs got compared to our smalls who barely touched it was glaring. Guys like Michaelanney and Worrall are 190+ but can also play small and had a field day with how predictable and stagnant we were.
Milera had 27, Michaelanney 27 with 12 marks, Worrall 23, Laird 23 whilst our guys couldn’t hit double figures as well as Durdin, White and Motlop only laying 2 tackles between them.

8 games is a reasonable sample size
We are clearly average at best and no depth
With Tassie coming in and the concessions plus a late second round pick we must trade out some big names for draft picks
The team we are playing next week have gone back to rebuilding
St Kilda have a young list now so at least they have a future

The alternative is inconsistent mediocrity

I reckon consistent mediocrity is more our thing.

We are a bottom 6 side who will win 7 to 8 games.

This goes back to Austin who has systematically destroyed the list.

We lose JSOS Williams and Cotrell and don't have the depth to cover them and these players are not the stars of the team they are role players.

We can't cover the loss of role players.

This is a damming indictment on the state of our list.

Geez , what a let down . Time to rotate the bottom six as they provided zero yesterday . I"m at the stage we have to give the kids in the Magoo's a go . Yes , they haven't shown much but I would give them a go anyway coz I don't want to die wondering . The current bottom six players dynamic aint working . Try something different FFS . Anything .

I said it in the pre-match thread. We struggle in Adelaide and we struggle against Adelaide.

we pay too much cap to

cripps
weiters
charlie
mckay
walsh

it leaves little in the bottom of the drawers to cover and round out the list. and this is the problem with tanking for high picks. those picks need to be paid some day.

shoulda set harry free last summer and cashed him into picks in a red hot draft.

looking at the way the dogs, hawks, gws, cats(?), pies spread the wealth on their list. one or two high paid players, everyone else falls under that and spreads the wealth...

not us.

Poor game. At no stage could we generate any excitement or energy. They gave us no space and stopped us from doing what we wanted to do.
Terrible game. Our worst for the season. Every other game we at least had some time where we took control but not this Crow game.

I dont think we are good enough or consistent enough to make the eight. More a bottom 6 team.

Just a couple of comments after being at what was a disappointing game. I don't get to see the side live much having moved to Adelaide a few years ago, but this was the Blues first looss at the Adl Oval that I have experienced.in the last three years

It was interesting to see the speed and professionalism of the Adelaide spread after getting possession, disciplined handball and quick movement really left us flatfooted. Really put pressure on our ability to man up. From up in the stands you could really see the Adelaide players making opportunities. We, on the other hand were flat footed when we had possession. Difference in uncontested possessions obvious

TDK and others got monstered in the ruck and we got very little from clearances.

Adelaide is a physically stronger side, they shrugged or broke many tackles, stronger marking side as well.

Not sure who selected the boots for yesterday's games, but I got sick of seeing our players slipping over. None of the Adelaide players did that. Is there a length of sprig/stop issue? Do we not understand the condition of the ground before the game?

McGovern had a few absolute shockers of kick-ins, a frustrating player to watch. In general, far too may times the kick in came straight back.

Harry kept running under the flight of the ball and missed many marking opportunities just by bad judgement

Lots of Adelaide marks were taken by the third man in the contest floating in at the last minute while the tussle between a pair of players at the flight of the ball was going on.

All of the above is pretty much basic stuff, no excuses

Would have lost by twenty goals if Weiters hadn't been playing.
