No Elijah
No kemp

Different positions and testing, however saints have worked harder than us in the very tough conditions

We experimented a bit , got some minutes into players that were short of a gallop.
We got we wanted from it.

Standard response to preseason loss

Jaxon Binns not AFL standard, unfortunately.

Not only tuns ball over, but a petulant sh#t as well. I was sitting near interchange bench, & Binns was yelling at his team-mates as he was jogging towards bench, angry that one of his more senior team-mates weren't ready to run straight on.

Really pleased with Cooper Lord.
He started the chain that resulted in that great Motlop goal.
He seems ready to go with good skills.

If it is Lord - hff/& a midfield option
vs.
Fantasia… who can only really play forward.

I’m going with Lord. He can play a wider range of roles than Fantasia.
Stick with Williams, Motlop fp and Lord one hff at least.

Yep Lord was terrific. Looks cherry ripe for a cracking full season in seniors.

Elijah came on late.

JSOS a must have instead of Young.
I wasn't that worried, we gave some players less than a half. Had some moments, main concern is whether our forward line will function.

I only watch the first half, that was enough.
New Year same problems.
Trying to play a fast skilful game, without the speed or skills.
A few times I was in awe of the passages of play and ball movement from the Aints, wondering why we could not do the same with our "alleged" better ball movers.
I was glad to finally see them show some control and slow the ball down, hit targets and get it to Cerra for a goal.
I thought Motlop stepped it up, especially with his running.
I like Jagga's side steps and direction change, but couldn't help thinking how good Boxshall was and we wouldn't have had to have sold the farm.
Not sure how he went in the second half but he looked like a boy out there, unfortunately.
A loss is a loss, preseason or not.
Still a lot to work on, both defensively and offensively.

It seems one team was focussed on bedding down their system and playing with intensity. The other was giving players opportunities, trialling different defensive systems (pushing up to the overlap player much better than previously) and pretty much, playing bruise free football. Plenty of half efforts on display today. As usual playing less than 100% often provides more injuries than it avoids.

Credit to George Hewett. He only knows one play to play and that's full bore. Great to see Skull O'Keefe get a run as well. He'll be a good AFL player.
Fingers crossed for the injuries. Especially Jagga and Durds. (Hopefully Durdin's isn't an achilles. He's due some luck)

Quote:
Carlton will be sweating over a knee injury to its No.3 pick Jagga Smith, who had flashed his talent across half-forward before departing the match at three-quarter time after limping from the field.

"He was exciting. He's had a great pre-season and he's worked really well with the midfield group. He got a knock to his knee late, so we kept him off as a precaution. It'll be looked at in the next couple of days, but at the moment it's nothing too serious," Carlton assistant coach Tim Clarke said afterwards.

Is this Carlton speak for 6 weeks?

I think we need to brace ourselves for a shit year.
I think we will be 4 and 7 by the time we hit the bye round.
People will be calling for Vossy head but it is not Vossy we should be looking at.
Nick Austin drafting recruitment and list management has been appalling.

2026 either Longmire Simpson or Hinkley will be coaching Carlton and Vossy will be on the scrap heap because of Austin

Some positives. Cooper Lord was good again. Reckon we've got a good one there. Motlop was involved plenty. Kicked 3 and had a hand in at least 1 other, maybe another. Haynes looked like he was fitting in well.

Jagger looked a bit lost. Matt Carroll got a bit of it but disposal and decision making left a bit to be desired. Not sure he actually looks where he's kicking. Like others, but sure about Binns ability to step up to AFL level. Elijah looked very rusty. Olli got done for his obligatory holding the ball.

You can't take much from the game either way. Blow the cobwebs out. Give a few a crack. Get some match ks into the legs.

7 of those first 11 games beat us last year.
The way we drafted and traded in recent years i cannot see where the improvement is going to come from.
Nothing I have seen so far suggests any difference
