Yep said the same in the post match thread. They weren't that insanely good, we were just diabolical.

Anyway. I had lunch with The Tyrant today. Some of you may remember him.

He supports us having a go at Stringer, so that little curve ball helped me get over myself pretty quickly

Don’t think I went upstairs.

Probably wise…

Stringer…

Say hi from me and give him a slap for suggesting that.

I once went to a party with him (and his girlfriend, or at least yet another Asian girl he was wanting to be his girlfriend) in a house in North Melbourne that I nearly bought a few years earlier.

I think it was called The Shambles.

It was a brothel in the late 19th century and was basically one room downstairs and one room up.

Didn’t go upstairs which may have been wise in retrospect…

Geelong and Hawthorn can both GAGF.

I kind of want Hawthorn to get 117'd in a grand final. But don't want to risk it.

I'm flipping between "blow it all up" and "few tweaks and we are good". I do think about the difference in my supporting of Canberra and Carlton. I've been Carlton all my life - when I was a kid Dad used to take me to games every week and I was locked in. Moved to Canberra when I was 11 and it's been a slow burn but I'm full chips in on them as well for the last 10 years. Both haven't won a GF since mid 90's. And yet - with the Raiders I just enjoy the ride. I know we are a team of glorious @#$%&! idiots who will lose by 40 points to the wooden spooners then come out and beat 1 and 2 on the ladder and either just miss finals or make it with an equivalent % of 80. And I have just learned to enjoy the wins and the ride (the glorious highs, the tragic lows, the creamy middles etc).

I just wish I could flip my mindset for Carlton as well. I really really ride it and I don't think it's particularly healthy for a grown adult human to have their mood dictated by how a bunch of blokes in their 20s kick a ball around a park. Tips appreciated.

Good thread. A few comments.

I agree the season flew by. I remember exchanging texts with a mate in the final round of the H&A season and we both said how are we already at the last round?
It's a bit empty in that there's always next week...until there isn't. I'm feeling blah but not that bad. We either go to the games or watch at home, so we went to a pub on Saturday night and I just got stupidly drunk and obnoxious and quite enjoyed myself tbh.

The slow burn also started for me around the Dogs game. I'd also put GWS as an off night but the Dogs game had me worried. I reckon we would have probably beaten Port tho if we hadn't been so banged up off a 5 day break, they really just ran out of steam.
The Collingwood game is what did me in. Remember how we always used to always seize up when we played Essendon*? Well, now we do so against Collingwood.
If we couldn't piss on their milestone game, snuff their season out and get ours back on track that night...then I knew we were in deep shit.
Hawthorn was salt in the wound and if we @#$%&! lose to St Blunder again next year I'll @#$%&! spew up.

The season's a failure overall, falling into the finals and putting up that performance leaves a very sour taste in the mouth.
Having said that I think we're nearly there, it's like we trying to put something together and just haven't got the right tools, or are putting it together in the wrong order.

I did read a funny comment somewhere saying, "why can't we just lose normally?!" which rang true.

and yeah Brisbane can get stuffed. The only thing they've done is let Collingwood win a flag.

Coping fine. It heped having bugger all expectation going into the game.

Mind that first 45 mins or so was genuine nightmare stuff. As I said on twitter, I wasn't expecting much, but I wasn't expecting that!

Anyway, overall, coping fine as I said. I think 25-odd years of disappointment has helped there. We should all be pretty battle-hardened, sadly.

It's just a game. :yikes:

Hawks supporting family friend came over yesterday to meet our exchange student. Of course he was wearing Hawks gear.
First thing he said to me was, "stopped crying yet?"
I benignly told him I'd played old fart footy in Wodonga and was driving home when the game was on and hadn't watched it. Left him nowhere to go.

Probably won't watch the rest of the finals, and at this stage we'll be driving home from holiday on GF day.

Apart from the trade period and draft, AFL is done for the year for me.

Yeah Hawthorn can get stuffed too.
I grew up and live in the east where they're everyone's default team and the bandwagon is overloaded right now

I pretty much checked out when I saw the team.

Stupidest selection decisions I’ve seen in 50 years supporting this club (though my capacity to analyse the ins and outs of team selection in 1974 may have been slightly more limited).

I didn’t expect us to win but the selection decisions were like taking a baseball bat and smacking every member of the team over the head four times and then asking them to harden up.

Pissed me off even more with the way it played out on the night re Kennedy being subbed out and then TDK being left on when he was potentially doing more damage when we were already clearly gone.

Just a dumb @#$%&! box of hammers all round.

Actually maybe I didn’t check out.

Still angry…

I'd even go as far as saying it was a dumb flower box of bluehammers all round.

It's been a really disappointing second half of the season. I really wish Freo had just beaten Port and ended it 2 weeks ago. Now we're being lambasted from all and sundry about rolling the dice with the returning players. Mind you, if we'd gone in with the kids, the result is probably similar, and we'd be criticised for not taking a chance.

We're the laughing stock again after that first half capitulation. We took huge risks with TDK and Doc.

The end of the season, summed the year up perfectly, really.

The injuries and injury management were all new levels of shit.

And right now, I just wonder where this group of players is really at. Suddenly, we're getting older. We're largely slow across the ground. We have questionable footskills, led chiefly by the bloke that was our great white hope, who now seems like a long way from the best player in the comp that he was destined to be.

Still, hope springs eternal and I know I'll be back to do it all again in the new season

The TDK / Kennedy sub fiasco will long be remembered as one of the worst coaching calls ever

I feel fed up, but fine. Watched the game with a resting heart rate. Put an unhealthy amount of money on Brisbane to win and paired it with Jannik Sinner to win the US Open and some WNBA results that went my way.

The window is almost shut. Best we can hope for is fewer injuries, a return to form from some, a side that finishes in the top 4 and still looks like it can run over the top of the opposition in the fourth quarter.

But before that I live in hope that Austin doesn't @#$%&! up the draft. I have zero faith/trust in anything the club does. Sometimes I think that the curse the two elders of the Yorta Yorta tribe put on Jack Elliott 20-odd years ago included the club. They are no longer alive, so maybe we are legitimately cursed?

Just checked online orders before turning in…

Second last one was from a woman named Cerra.

Last one was from a Wiggins!

I have no idea what that means but I’ll cling onto anything at the moment…
