I just keep thinking of that scene from Any Given Sunday - " you ain't said no words to me till Cherubuni went down. Then it was "go out there and play like you're in the hood" etc. I know West Coast turned their toes up about 10 minutes into the contest, but it's amazing what happens when you give kids a shot and some responsibility

great win!

elijah at HB was great. kemp was everything. cripps willed the game along. lords looked good and binns grew into the game. pittonet rucked very well.

walsh still looks really average. mcgovern might be the most contact averse defender we've had. zac still cannot run out a game.

makes you wonder about our kids, and why they haven't had more of a run, rather than burning out the 1st choice players to the extent we have. that small forwardline look great - and the all over the ground pressure which results from a mobile F50 is how you win the afl.

saint's will be a nervous game. win that, make the finals have a week off and get some players back.

Very happy with the win but lets be honest - the Eagles were terrible in every aspect of play.
Anyway it was about time we had a bit of luck and played an opponent having an off day. Throughout the year it seems many sides have lifted against us.

they were. but we need some credit for that. eagles were going for 3 wins in a row so they had form - and mid way thru the 3rd our pressure was still hovering around 220 for the game. teams can't play against that maddening pressure.

I swore off the match day thread today because I thought no good could come of it. Then I didn't want to comment in case I jinxed it. I still don't know whether it was a fantastic backs to the wall performance or we just managed to get bad West Coast. I suspect a little of each.

Great win. Back in the 8. Cripps another 3 votes. Now onto the Saints and see what happens.

Oh and of course, it wouldn't be a Carlton match without the obligatory injuries. And repeat injuries at that. Durds shoulder again. Williams hammy?? Fully expect it confirmed by Tuesday

I don’t subscribe to the WC are bad. I think our pressure, structure behind the ball, ball usage and did I mention pressure was the key outcome.

I didn't even watch the game let alone go on TC today!

Williams was cramp I believe.

Sometimes you need a win to boost your confidence even if it's against a crap side.

That was a phenomenal effort from our The Carlton Football Club . The hardest road trip in footy and decimated with injury and we won . Our GREAT Captain was just that . Great . Took the team on his back and carried them to won of our greatest victories ever . And a special mention to the highly underrated second banana Pitto . After Cripps the most influential player on the ground . Everyone put in .

Special mention to the kids . They could not have been under more pressure yet despite the heavy burden stood up manfully . Bravo .

Our coaches just frustrate me. Done - that’s it.

Must say it is baffling that we rushed back Cottrell to the seniors after a long injury layoff instead of rewarding the good form Binns was showing in the VFL.
And why has it taken so long to at least try Kemp up forward?

Well certainly didn’t expect THAT today. Wow.

A sensational day at the footy for my dads 70th. As TC knows, I was actually dreading it early in the week. As the week went on, with the injection of youth and having no choice but to try things, become somewhat more interested and hopeful. But never confident.

The roller coaster of supporting Carlton I guess. We all know it.

Cripps was simply unbelievable and I thought Weiters was outstanding. Looking forward to watching the replay and seeing our many other contributors.

When we bring that intensity with strong contest and great pressure, when can play fantastic footy.

Live to fight another day.

Great win......like others, I didn't expect that.
Definitely didn't expect to smash them.

Crippa was huge...
Weiters was in total charge of the backline.
Pitto killed it and Kemp was brilliant.
Cincotta, Elijah, Newman, Williams, Owies and Walsh all great games.
Hewett was in full Robin mode and Kennedy played well up forward.
Bar a few errant kicks Ollie played his best game I've seen.
Acres solid and so too McLovin, Young, Cowan and Motlop.
How good were the kids, Binns had a good game, I can see what they like in Lord and how good was that goal from Moir.
Only disappointment was the injury to Cory, he was playing well up until then.

It would've been nice to have kicked a few more goals and jumped the Hawks on the ladder, but I'll take that win any day.

The real question that comes out of that game is the focus on so many talls in the team, especially in the ruck/forward line.
Maybe like the Hawks a quicker nimble team is what we need to transition to and if that is the case do we get a bit more creative at the trade table this year.

We passed Sticks and David Rhys Jones on the way in. Was hoping it would be a good omen.

Look, if we beat the saints, West Coast beat Geelong, north beat Hawthorn, GWS beat the dogs and Essendon* beat the lions, we're top 4.

Just give us the cup
