you can’t drop Cripps unless he’s injured and not playing. you’d consider trading him before you’d drop last years Brownlow winnner and the Captain. at a minium he takes the oppositions best shutdown player. maybe he needs to be more defensive minded when he’s not having his best day on the ground. but that’s it. i don’t blame him for the woes for a minute.
Voss go asked about snaps from straight in front 30 out (hint hint Mackay) and is it time to just tell some players “enough is enough” and again Voss demurred. i don’t expect him to give the media a heads up or a headline on anything but it’s bloody obvious to me that someone needs to play dad for Mackay and settle him into a structure that removes his ego (voices in his head) a little bit to free him up. also love the idea of him in the square and Charlie as a high CHF with occasional bursts through the middle. he’s more like wayne carey than most forwards running around today even though the game has changed so so much since pagans paddock was possible!
speaking of, anybody else notice Voss rubbing his left thigh for half the post-game presser? i looked up body language and apparently it means someone is afraid that their obscenely high salary (that goes for all people paid millions while there are homeless and starving families) and high-status position is being reviewed by his superiors. just kidding. i think he’s safe, too much sovereign risk at carlton for coaches if they fired voss at the end of the year. and too be honest there’s only been one thrashing, adelaide. which sad to say but is an improvement.
Walsh is doing his preseason on the ground at the moment and topped our possessions, AF points and kicks. not sure about his score involvements and efficiency but it’s improve exponentially each and every game.
that tells me two things
a) Sam Walsh is a freak and one of the best picks in Carlton’s post 1995 history.
b) a pacific ocean of difference between him and the rest of our on onballer/winger/run&carry brigade.
i do like Cerra and hate seeing him wasted in the D50 because no body else has his composure under heavy fire and scoreboard pressure. Kennedy is back to form and did a job on Damian Barletts best player in the AFL so not having a go at those two. Hewitt is Mr Invisible atm. doing rôles each i know but is that enough for a highly rated midfielder on big money?
i would rate us an outside chance in this game on matchups despite the terrible colliewobbles we seem to be having this year. except the filthy magpies (my partner and her daughters team unfortunately for me) are just incredibly good at finding a way from any positions. and as we all know their mantra is you have to play for every single one of those 100 minutes against them. and our mantra seems to be, little glimpses of form for a third of the game, embarrassment for a third of the game and dour and boring for a third of the game which gives Collingwood too many looks i reckon.
