With the early dominance of Charlie Harry and JSOS I feel like we got sucked into the trap of just bombing it to a pack instead of trying to hit up leads and constant movement to create space. And even when we did bomb it to a pack, the small forwards were nowhere to be seen when the ball inevitably hit front and centre

This pretty much sums it up. Credit to Hawthorn - they really seemed to have us worked out after quarter time. I’m glad we learnt that lesson while still eking out the four points.

Saad, McGovern & Stocker will be handy ‘ins’ over the next few weeks.

Solid first up showing from Young. No disrespect to SPS, but we did the right thing trading him out for a key defender. Credit where it’s due to Nick Austin and co.

Durden and Kennedy are becoming barometers for the team.

Charlie’s marking in the first quarter was great but he’s a bit inconsistent with his second efforts at the moment. Harry was pretty average after quarter time IMO, but I loved his chase down and that important mark on the wing late.

Terrible lack of composure/poor decision making after qtr time. Boyd not strong enough in the contest and lacks pace. We missed Saad today.

So much to work on, but we do feel like a different side from years past.

Very happy with Young’s debut.

Thought Doc was close to bog. SOS stood tall. Weiters enormous.

Thought a few in the midfield were off the boil. Cripps not great after halftime and Cerra looked short of a run. Walshy still warming up. So thank god for Hewett, he’s the blue collar midfielder I’ve been praying for.

Harry a mix of good and bad. We kept thinking the 1st quarter would repeat itself and CJ and Sicily killed us thereafter. TDK also struggled to get involved.

Still, there were plenty of cameos over the course of the game. We’re winning with room to grow.

How good is winning.

Saad and stocker will be a big upgrade on Newman and Boyd.

Martin is another level to Owies Durdin and fisher and should have played.

And I think we can upgrade on O’Brien even though he’s improved. Would love some more speed

Fisher and Owies yes but Durdin stays. Not convinced about Martin. Has not really shown what he can do consistently.

Collectively we’re not getting enough out of the small forward group. 64 inside 50s today for 2 goals between the three of them. They had so many opportunities to hit the packs front and centre. No idea where they were but they weren’t where the ball was landing and hawthorn waltzed it out time after time

Sheeesh…
Think the success of the first quarter went to our heads - bombed it long to 3 talls and they just picked it off and rebounded for 3/4. Well coached hawthorn.
Great JSOS, waiters doc.
Kennedy Durdin, Setterfield Owies Cripps Charlie Walsh Hewitt did their part, young ok.
Boyd, Fish, to the reserves
TDK struggled as did Cerra (or is our expectation too high?)

LOB and Fisher need to go. Need runners who can actually run with the ball.

How about a Plan B once we can see that Plan A which worked so well in the first quarter had been worked out by the hawks.

Otherwise we won so who really cares.

Charlie said he subbed off for Martin because he jarred his ankle.

I’ll have to watch the replay, but at the ground I didn’t think Fisher was bad today. I wouldn’t be in a rush to drop him.

Agree somewhat, but I actually think the blame laid more with our talls after quarter time. The ball wasn’t coming to ground because they kept trying to take the contested marks and got picked off consistently.

Room for improvement for sure for Owies and Durdin for sure, but it was the I50 delivery, talls failing to halve the contest and lack of protection in the corridor that hurt us most.

He was terrible early. 3 contests in a row he didn’t go hard enough and hawthorn won the ball. He improved in the second half but even then he had chances but didn’t make them pay with his possessions. I’m a big fan and have never been wanting to drop him, but he needs to improve on todays output IMO

The AFL Twitter account said it was Pitto, I guess they got their tall guys mixed up.

Play fisher on the wing. He needs to get in the play. But Voss needs to tell him that if he doesnt put his body on the line, he will be replaced.

Go back and watch the replay. Hawthorn picked off a lot with intercept marks but there were also countless opportunities where the ball hit the deck and it was all to comfortable for the hawks defenders

Huge thank you to Jack Silvagni for his efforts again today.

Would the soft and/or one-sided players please work hard at rectifying their deficiencies.

Yeah I’ve been thinking this. Fisher to the wing for O’Brien. O’Brien out for Martin. Martin to half forward

Fisher fumbled all day. Setterfield couldn't hit a target inside 50.
Not enough out of TDK .
Though Doc was huge in the last. Ditto Jack.
George Hewitt had 9 tackles . Very good game. Sam Walsh kept running. Williams important.
Expect plenty of beat up about the Charlie sub in the last few minutes.
