Todd I think most of list will get 2 out of 3 games but third game usually more of a senior side - so will depend upon players preparation over pree- season so don't think necessarily it is an indication about pecking order - I note sumner isn't included either but would think he would be ahead of those named - but maybe I'm reading it wrong

I remember Jaksch and DVR missing out on NAB 1 last year and some said it was an indication of their low standing in the squad. I disagreed and thought their time would come. I was wrong. So I'm concerned that Jaksch and Boekhorst are missing out in game 1 this year and will be increasingly concerned if they don't play the next 2 games.

Nothing to be concerned about. We already knew we got it wrong when we drafted Boekhurst and traded for Jaksch.

Jones, Graham and Sumner miss out too. It might be that not everyone will play! Hard to read too much into it.

McKay said they would have a mixture for the first game, a younger squad for game 2 and something close to their best in r3.

Great to see Pickett and Fisher named. Really keen for a look.

On another note, I hope Jaksch makes every post a winner this season (preparation-wise) and is given his chance to consolidate a spot. I still think he has AFL talent.

Lebois is a notable inclusion. As a first year rookie you don't get named unless you have seriously impressed.

Fantastic lineup! Seven new blokes plus Weitering, McKay, Curnow, Silvagni and Cuningham. We get a great look at the future this weekend.

Wouldn't mind seeing Lamb have a go in Tuohy's old spot at some stage, has all the attributes but doesn't find the ball much as a forward.

V excited to see big Harry!
I am not really expecting him to set the world on fire this year but I'd love to see him just clunk a big mark or crash a pack or two (just to see if he breaks in half, Bruce Reid style...?).
Also v impressed to see Pickett, Fisher & LeBois named b/c I think there would be good reasons to leave them out UNLESS they had really pushed their case on the track - feels like BB is rewarding them Vs, say Boekhorst, Jakcsh etc...

I think the first pre-season game & the last are most indicative:
Game 1: Reward for fringe players showing soemthing/performing on the track
Game 2: Get a look at the young'ns and load managing some of the seniors, and those returning from injury
Game 3: (Close to) preferred team for Round 1

Kind of surprised Vescio wasn't named for the 2:05pm game...

"LeBois is a freakish player, one of the most exciting kids to come through for SA in a long time. He was described as Rioli like after the game, you really can't take your eyes off of him."

From a post on BF RE: U18's.

Will not happen but would like to see,
Buckley Marchbank Plowman
Polson Rowe Smedts
Cuningham Palmer Thomas
Pickett Charlie Lamb
SOJ McKay Lebois
Casboult Murphy Kerridge
From; Fisher Armfield Gorringe ECurnow
Kreuzer White Wright Weitering
Rest up; Docherty Gibbs Simpson
Byrne doesn't get a mention the fact he is injured, good work afl.com......
Casboult to ruck with Gorringe, can't afford to have Kreuzer going down, Kreuzer with limited game time.

Good point , hearing very good things about LeBois & Polson .Silvagni may just have landed a couple gems very late .
This could make all the difference to our rebuild , as in the past we've been hopeless with our later choices.

We got the PSD pick Betts right but that way as long long time ago....coincidently another small forward except LeBois and Polson seem to have a bigger engine to play midfield than Betts did

Did being the operative word here.

Happy to have him on our list for depth but I have put a line through Lamb.

However, your idea has some merit.

I guess the BP spot is to be fought out by Sheehan and Byrne when he gets back, but then again there's Buckley Simpson Armfield who could be considered capable of filling this spot.

I wonder if any of the newbies with pace would be considered by the MC.

Yep, but I was referring to his Carlton days...I try not dwell on what he's become since MM

With our new crop of smalls, Buckley will have to work hard to keep his spot. Perhaps best bet is a Simpson replacement off the backline, even then he's likely to be down the pecking order if not this year then next.
