Pretty much this.

Seems like a lifetime ago.

I hope my 11 yr old son will get to experience a Carlton flag.

I celebrated hard, I think I was just getting home now 20 years ago. Next premiership they'll probably be wheeling me in

So was I, in the Ponsford stand on the pocket Spalding smothered and goaled. I was 14. It's the only flag I was old enough to understand, attend and remember. I'm now 34 and I dare say if I'm lucky enough to live to be 44 or even 54 I'm not sure I'll ever see another flag.

I'll never forget an old couple sitting opposite on the train home. The look of sheer happiness on their faces was memorable, and they must have seen the majority of the 16 flags.

If we win another I'll likely be their age.

I get quite sad re-living these moments....it's an eerie nostalgic feeling for me because as a 16 yr old girl who was quite close to the club I just hero worshiped these guys....and to also be so successful and to be fortunate enough to share the celebrations with the players.....ahhhh :(

When we are going so badly I kid myself into thinking that my love is waning...but it's not, it's absolutely still in full swing. I love this club, it defines me and is a major part of my life.

There is a longing in me... to feel that elation again and it gets me down..... I want that feeling back. Right now.

I have hope.

Nice post TBM. At 16 y.o., I take it you were still able to join in the celebrations at Naughtons?

I remember buying the club official tracksuit after the win. It was real polyester and cost me about $90 back then. I clearly went to town in celebrating the win.

Maybe not a celebration, but it's nice to remember. That day is very clear to me, I can wait a little longer, times have changed though, Melbourne city will fill in the gaps with success this year.

I was thinking about this 1995 victory this morning, but more in relation to my feelings the following year, and how I thought Carlton could almost coast to another grand final victory in 1996. The team was that much better than the opposition...surely it was possible to contend again. Injuries, lack of form, luck etc all played a part in a rapid spiral downwards and they got nowhere near a grand final in 1996. You can't take anything for granted.

In relation to 1995 - I knew they had won it the moment Bradley kicked that goal. The match was over then in the 1st five minutes...you could sense the willpower in that team.

I bet you there are West Coast players in this team this year who think, ah well if we don't win it this year, we will be back next year. Unlikely, even with how good their midfield is. There are so many variables to being a top notch team.

Hawthorn is a different kettle of fish though. They will be back in the grand final next year no matter what. The AFL has played a part (via stadium deals, money on the side, Tasmania etc) in creating this indestructable team...highly ironic considering how much they go on about the importance of "equalisation".
