My prediction is that whomever we take with our first pick will be 100 times worse than whomever Essendon* take with theirs and there'll be groaning and distress throughout this place until three years later when it turns out their bloke is utter shit and the whole thing is conveniently forgotten.

If Bell had a forwardline to kick to he'd be a hero. Instead he gets the hard ball, turns around and accelerates committed to driving us forward and the team structure forward is zilch. Now there's not too much you can do with someone on your tail than go forward.

This.

Our forward-line structure might be severely lacking, but you still can't simply blaze away; you need to be able to have the vision to be able to assess the options around you, even if that means going sideways or backwards.

He did this in previous seasons as well when at times we had something resembling a forward-line. He has many admirable qualities, but he is way too "get ball, kick ball". While the structure forward of the play needs improvement, possession is too hard to win to just bomb it long blindly.

True.

I truly believe Bell has been a standout amongst a very average output from most on our list.

I love the way he is still at it in the 4th Qtr whilst most others around him have given up.

There's plenty of room for improvement. I'm guessing the talk amongst the team of introverts is weak and not helpful for players who need guidance from those around him.

Bell should look out for team mates when he gets ball on wing, but I do encourage the shots he takes from 50 whilst our forward structure remains a huge issue...imo

Okay, good to know. I'm happy if we don't get anyone and just get drafts pick this season.

These three minutes prove you are wrong. He has more strings to his bow thana you give him credit for. The soccer off the ground to Gibbs was great (soccer background) and the kick down the line was while he had his shorts around his knees and nobody in front of him )as usual)

Thanks for the video, and he had a good game that day.

But I can't deny what I consistently see with my own eyes. I've attended every game Bell has played in Melbourne and watched the others on TV, and feel like I have seen enough of him to know that he lacks poise and intelligence at times upon receiving the ball. I stand by what I said - he has a propensity to just hack the ball forward, without really looking around to assess whether this was in fact the best option. If you don't notice this then we are obviously watching different Tom Bells. It's a clear theme in his game and a three-minute YouTube video (in which there is an example of him doing the very thing you seem not to think he does?) doesn't change anything.
