I'm sorry.
The club owes me something.
Not wins, not flags but a professionalism and a team first attitude from top to bottom.
On that front, it is a dismal failure.

Neither the club nor I owe each other anything BUT
Footy is a competitive marketplace. Most of us on here would probably be considered 'rusted on' members. We'll hang around and whinge until they knock the place down and hand back the keys. We would be considered the 'base Level' of support they can expect every year just for entering a team in the competition. The real cream for the club isn't us, it is the new blood, the new supporters and the growth in interest for the brand. As a vendor in a competitive marketplace they need to give potential followers a reason to commit. Most of us bought that sales pitch years ago. Why would new followers choose us over Hawthorn or Collingwood or Essendon*. i've railroaded my kids, gave them no option at all. Neither of them are anywhere near as interested in footy as i was at their age, neither have seen a Carlton premiership. Both boys even played footy (1 still does) but neither are that passionate about the game. They'll wear a Carlton Guernesy to footy training, publically say they follow the blues but realistically arent too worried about going to matches or even watching on TV (mind you, being anywhere near me during a game is not advisable these days.

The club owes me nothing, I decided of my own free will to buy a membership, they just seem committed to giving me reasons to question that decision.

If they want followers and members to commit with passion and enthusiasm then they need to show a little themselves. You cant build a business based on passion and commitment and then show none yourself.

Great stirring stuff "K.".........................and i agree with you 100%...............................was there for all of those flags myself and the sense of pride i have in being a supporter of this GREAT club will go to the grave with me no matter what. Its set in stone.

But i can understand the resenment at the moment. We've blown it.But i refuse to believe we wont come again.Remember folks, its always darkest before the dawn.

I hate what our club has become, but I was born Carlton and I'll die Carlton. One of my earliest memories is of telling a family friend how I was going to play for Carlton when I grew up (if only) and being puzzled by him chuckling as he said to dad "well you never know". Never know! To my mind there was no doubt about it. If you watched Marngrook a few weeks ago you would have seen a photo of my two grandsons in their Carlton jumpers.

As a kid I knew Ray Garby, he was a god to me as he not only had played for Carlton, but had played in a premiership. I can still remember him saying "g'day Snow" and telling me about the players he'd talked to at Princes Park the previous weekend while I listened wide eyed. I remember the hard times in the late fifties and sixties, then the glory years that came after were all the sweeter for it, I'll stick, I'll be at plenty more games this year. There's a special place in hell for supporters who change clubs in the bad times. What type of supporter are you if you can't hang in there during times of little success?

Same here...since 1968.

Love the sentiment kkk, and I too understand the resentment.

The club owes me one thing... honesty

From the board to the football department and especially the players.

For that... I will continue to lose part of my weekend, purchase a membership/merchandise, travel interstate, continue to grey...

I recently turned 34. I've been alive for 3 flags: 81, 87 and 95.

- I was 14 in 1995 and lucky enough to have been sitting right in front of Earl Spalding's smother and goal in *that* grand final.
- I was 18 in 1999 and lucky enough to have been sitting right in front of Frazer Brown's tackle on Wallace in *that* prelim.

That's it for me.

Meanwhile, my old man and his old man (who is a life member) have between them been present at and seen *every* flag since 1938 (many of those, together).

If I was to arrive at AFL with zero family connection to the club, and look from scratch for a team with a clear identity, representing demographic I can relate to, run in a ethical and professional manner it would *not* be Carlton.

I'm simply Carlton by birth, and Carlton I will stay.

Here I was thinking you're much younger than 34.. Thought a teen for sure!

I was 18 when I saw the 68 GF, also saw 83 ,87, 95. The rest on tV or the wireless as it was back then.

I have sunk thousands of dollars and millions of hours into them.

They owe me plenty but I'll settle for one thing. Genuine effort.

They can't ask us to stick with them when they mock us with what they're offering in return. If they don't do something, we old farts will be dead and buried with nobody left to carry the baton. It's already happening in playgrounds everywhere. Where CFC jumpers once bounded and abounded, there are mainly Hawks, Geelong and Collingwood. I have been in shops where there are CFC jumpers and other items of merchandise clogging up the shelves and the Hawks section is sold out. That's the future right there.

If the board can't see that coming, they need to look more closely.

Even the Dogs supporters get effort.

Wow! You got to see Hawthorn beat Essendon* in '83?

There are two Carltons. The memory of that past beast that brought joy, the shiny beast that is not real, rather it is a myth made up of all the good bits and few of the bad bits...memories of Dad and Pop, of my son as a four year old, and tinnies as a platform...the old clock...the smell of the toilets...and home ground advantage...premiership quarters...banging the signage... and the social club and my brothers and friends and...me growing up really.

Then there is today's Carlton. The real Carlton as it is now...and it owes me big time for what it has done to that past Carlton...but sadly the fools running this Carlton think they are the old Carlton and while that loop sends us loopy nothing will change.

Also I think the Board of Carlton owe us a voice...I think Carlton has always struggled with that aspect of " The Team".

When we were winning flags ( and yes I can go back to '68 too) it probably didn't matter too much but then the shit hit the fan and still the club does not understand that without members it is a non-entity whereas without Carlton (this present Carlton) I would be fine — in fact given their crappy refusal to move into the 21st century I doubt I would hardly miss them (certainly not like I once would have).

It isn't even the same club anymore.
This isn't even the same competition

In your guts you all know both of these things are correct

We ve all been here before, and we all made it through the Dark Years under Pagan.
We all enjoyed the two Elim Final wins in '11 and '13 (sad, but that's the best the last rebuild gave us) so there's no question of sticking by the Club now that times are decidedly tougher.
I honestly think it wont be as bad this time round.
- Financially not a s bad
- Player facilities no where near as bad
- SOS (and as rumoured his GWS sidekick later in the year), in charge of list management instead of Hughes/Rogers.
- Old grumpy, outdated coach removed before the depths of the rebuild, unlike Pagan (who Collo and Sticks in their 'wisdom' extended his contract on the back of a Pre Season comp win in 2005 lol)
- Pres, CEO, List Manager and Footy Ops (despite their bumbled public announcements and slip of the tongue in interviews) seem to know exactly where we re at and where we need to go as a Club. For once we have some sort of 'plan of action'.
- For the first time ever, going through the proper process to get the best coach to suit the Plan
- Pressure on Board from the outset. They know they re hanging on by a thread.

Now that the whole MM saga is over, Im actually excited about seeing the start of the 'Rebirth' of this Club. I honestly think we ll do a a much better job this time.

Go Blues!!
