We have a shocking list and we need to start again. We need talented kids coming through and lots of them.

Half the list is under 23; move on.

Under 23, Yes. Talented, No.

Gibbs is a required player under any conditions and would only be traded under a scenario where we stand to gain substantially.

If your time here has taught me anything about you, your view of potential seems to derive ostensibly from having your every wish granted.

This place is hysterical.

We should have traded so many players while they still had currency. Waite and Kreuzer being the two majors that spring to mind. We held on too long.

Let's make sure we repeat the mistakes of the past. That's what we do best at Carlton.

Personally I'd at least wait until the trade period to do it..
I mean, we declared our intention to trade Robinson a couple weeks before trade period last year and the site went into meltdown about what a dumb strategy that was..

Yes. He has 7-8 years left.

Well then you'd keep him unless another club offers something ridiculously in our favour.

They're not all going to be winners, but there's plenty there, 80% of the list in fact.

If Gibbs (or anyone else) is part of the next flag then definitely keep them but do we really expect to be in flag contention by then?

It's been 20 years since the last one and we are further away than ever before.

With the rise of GWS & GCS, the powerhouses of Hawthorn & Sydney plus the sides like St Kilda, Brisbane & Footscray who are further ahead in developement than us (we haven't even started) I honestly can't see us being a Premiership side within the next 7-8 years minimum and that's if we have a big change in direction and start to get everything right regarding List Management & Recruiting.

Absolutely, positively, 100% spot on.

We need to start again with our list. Top-to-bottom rebuild. We'll get two picks in the top 25 just by virtue of where we finish, one of those will be in the top 5. We need to engineer more picks in the top 10-15. And to do so, we need to be prepared to cut players loose. Everyone on the table. That will be the only way to compete with GWS, GC, Dogs etc. when they come good - and they will.

sorry I'm one that is a bit confused with our past couple of years and what we have seemed to achieve
we are told we have turned over half the list and brought in future guns and immediate impact players yet we have no future and our present is languishing, or am I missing something?
hasn't micky done an excellent job by bringing future starts and drafting accountable players that will take us to the next level because he is a builder of lists?
what's all the fuss about?
by the end of the year we will salute a couple of times, have a rip snorting pre season and challenge for the flag and with the stars aligning we will overtake all 16 teams above us

I believe, I believe in micky yes I do

The other clubs would be expecting a fire sale, so I'd rather not sell what we have undervalue. We've been doing it to players that have [REDACTED] us around for years, now we're down to good citizens who are low-risk from an off-field/injury standpoint.

The entire premise behind this thread is old-hat thinking, almost as old hat as trading for experience.

I'd be open to a team throwing the kitchen sink at him because they see him as the final piece of the puzzle. I'd much rather we traded Murphy, but I've been saying that for the last three years and it's not going to happen.

I just can't see a club giving anything up for him that justifies it. If I'm in charge of list management at a club - why would I offer Gibbs a truckload of money and give your best draft pick to a rival team, when I can offer, say, Rory Sloane a similar amount of money as a free agent and keep my draft pick, whilst Adelaide probably get below market rate in compensation?

Not to mention, we have to pay the full whack of the salary cap to someone. No point bottoming a list out and probably end up retaining someone like Warnock to earn six figures to play in the VFL as it completes our salary cap obligations either.

Best way I see it happening is if a) Dangerfield leaves Adelaide, b) the AFL give Adelaide plenty of notice as to what their compensation pick will be to engineer a deal, c) Adelaide finish low enough on the ladder to provide them with a pick worth taking for Gibbs. Or substitute Adelaide for Richmond, and Rance for Dangerfield. Even then, Adelaide would more than likely depend on whether they're successful in luring Aish across first.

Just don't see any other team in contention feeling like they're still missing that other piece of the puzzle and have the cap space to fit them in.

Every chance port will give ollie wines for Gibbs....
Every chance Essendon* will give jake Carlisle for Murphy..
Every chance Adelaide will give us Daniel Talia for Menzel..
Every chance North will give us Todd Goldstein for Warnock..
Get a grip kids...
Need,
1: two key forwards
