Apparently the Age said we are playing Collingwood, Richmond and Essendon* all twice.

So that's 2 finals teams.

1 middle bracket team.

Add 2 bottom teams that and is that all our double ups?

That's no team from the top 6 though - Ess and Rich officially finished 7th and 8th I thought.

Not really impressed with the NZ game but I guess they got rid of Monday night at last.

You know this or guessing?
I would have thought we would play Essendon** twice.

We do, one of the games will be included in the bye rounds.

Don't want to play Collingwood and/or Essendon* twice. One of the two is fine.

For starters, Carlton have trouble beating both of these teams.

Play Essendon* or Collingwood once and play a bottom six team twice instead. This increases the chances for wins.

3 double ups against bottom six teams
2 double ups for top 8 - Richmond and Collingwood or Essendon*.

That is what North got wasn't it?

Playing Hawthorn twice as someone has suggested is crazy...

I don't see the point of scraping into the 8 just by beating the lower sides then struggling against the top sides in the finals. If you can't beat the better sides what's the point?

In fact there are 5 games on Anzac Day 2015

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-10-24/s ... -anzac-day

Quote:
It will be the first of five matches to be played on Anzac Day next year, which falls on a Saturday, and comes with the agreement of the Victorian RSL after discussions with the AFL.

Playing Hawthorn twice? That is ridiculous.

Carlton HAS to play 2 bottom 6 teams twice according to the way they are supposed to devise the fixture.

That should mean something like

Coll
Tigers
St Kilda
Melbourne
Giants

Carlton shouldn't be playing Hawthorn twice.

What is the bet that one match is in Launceston to help the Hawks out with their 25 million dollar investment in Tasmania.

Lions and Giants are bottom 6 sides so that makes sense. Of the teams you mentioned, that would be 3 bottom 6 twice. We only play one top 6 team twice so Hawthorn it is.
Looks like i might have to get a new passport.

It is broken up into top 6, middle 6 and bottom 6. Richmond and Essendon* finished in the middle 6 as did Collingwood, so that makes 3 middle 6 teams. We will probably get one bottom 6 teams twice and one top 6 too.

Are bottom 6 teams allowed to play a top 6 team twice?

I thought the rule was bottom 6 teams get a bottom 6 team twice and 3 middle 6 teams twice.

That is what North Melbourne got in 2014..
2 games against Brisbane
2 games against Bulldogs
2 games against Melbourne.

That got them into the finals and enabled them to "scrape into the 8" and after that get enough confidence to go onto the preliminary.
I want the same type of deal North got and to give Carlton the best chance of making the finals. I don't really care about how many times Carlton plays "blockbuster" teams as long as they maximise the chance of winning. Playing Hawthorn twice will not maximise the opportunity for Carlton victories.

No, they are not meant to. But as we know there are exceptions to the rule, block busters etc. At the end of the day the AFL just do whatever they want.
There is some formula they work on, cant remember the break up of each group. But i am pretty sure that bottom 6 sides can play one top 6 team twice.

Carlton played Collingwood, St Kilda, Geelong, Port and Essendon* twice in 2014...3 of these teams made the finals.

Carlton had 2 wins, 7 losses and 1 draw out of this side of the fixture.

North played Brisbane, Geelong, Western Bulldogs, Adelaide and Melbourne in 2014 - 1 of these teams made the finals.

North had 6 wins and 4 losses against these teams.

An extra one or two wins can be the difference between finishing 8th over 9th or 4th over 5th or whatever it is. Give Carlton an easier draw and watch the AFL rake in the money.
