Hold fire till we actually see the financials?

Why wait for the financials? Might be something in there that explains it.

btw, paying off the loan doesn't effect our result.

It is if you have to pay the AFL $290,000 in equalisation tax.

Subjudice is implicated in this it isn't as if he was not on the board when this loss was made - lack of membership is the key - the brand is in the toilet both on and off the field - out of the finals race by april what do you expect people flock to see a team that plays 17 of its games where you are making up the numbers and they mean little - a selection committee who took until about round 15 or so to play new players - pathetic off and on field noyt until about round 16 until we started to play almost consistent footy

When you buy your membership next year is there a section on where you would like your money to go to?

Let's say you put in $400 for membership maybe you can choose

1) $100 to go to St Kilda - a team that has been in the finals consistently over last 10 years
2) $200 to North Melbourne - a team that gets lots already from "equalisation" measures.
3) $100 to Port - another team that already gets lots of money from "equalisation" measures.

Why not just give all the money you pay for membership to Hawthorn ? or Collingwood? it makes just as much sense as Carlton giving money to these other clubs.

Shouldn't the AFL pay for their "equalisation" program from their own money they get from the television deal?
Why are they now seeking money from a club 5 million in debt? A newsflash for the AFL - Carlton is 5 million in debt... do they realise this? Revenue amounts are irrelevant if you can't make money.

That is like asking Greece to bail out Italy. Both nations are in debt, but why is the Greek debt less important than the Italian debt.

It is all a bit confusing this equalisation. It seems like policy on the run.

Shouldn't you get funds from the equivalent of China and Germany (ie Collingwood, Hawthorn and West Coast) if you want to fund this type of stuff ie...countries/clubs that have been making consistent profits.

Your post puts the equalisation into personal perspective, tap in 79, and REALLY makes me think wtf am I doing giving my membership dues to other clubs for.

Apparently we are still $5m in debt too. I keep hearing we have 4 billionaires on our committee, clearly they are not putting their hands in their pockets to any great extent.

No billionaire became one by sharing it with others.

"Middle class clubs such as Carlton, Richmond and Geelong are expected to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue tax despite being in precarious financial positions this year."

Meanwhile....back at the "happy club" of Hawthorn who were gifted a free 15 million thanks to the AFL setting them up as the Tasmanian team they can afford drones for overhead viewing of training, can afford american psychologists, can afford biochemists and extra coaching panel members..

Nice of the AFL to tax Carlton about the same amount as this year's "premier" team (Hawthorn) who are going to be gifted by the AFL their 3rd premiership in about 8 years. I see the "equality" in that after all.

Taxing Hawthorn now...the phrase the horse has bolted comes to mind. A bit late isn't it after they have won 2 (soon to be 3) flags in 8 years on the back of their 15 million Tasmanian deal?

The Tassie deal wasn't the gift...the $1 Waverley lease was the gift.

Without both though they wouldn't be the superpower in football everyone in the media admires so much.

Still, I think the AFL could do more for Hawthorn. Perhaps the AFL could pay for their new drones for training, or perhaps make them exempt from paying anything in this new "equalisation" program...and instead tax Carlton & Richmond more?

Just some ideas to help Hawthorn along.

Drones and GoPro cameras are pretty cheap. It's called innovation. Carlton should try it sometime.

With whose money? Maybe Carlton can play matches in Tasmania and get some of that Tasmanian government's money? A state that, by the way, is paralysed by years of a greens/labor alliance and now has youth unemployment of over 20% in the north-east. Does Hawthorn do anything for these youth? or are they happy to take the money, run and conduct a few footy clinics?

Hawthorn's image is squeaky clean...and yet beneath the veneer it is a different picture.

Carlton is 5 million in debt...Hawthorn is a multi-million profit making machine.

Back at the end of 2006 Jack Niall did an article on the Hawks adding as many as four new staff to its football department — including two coaches, a recruiting person and another fitness expert. Bingo! they hit the jackpot under two years later.

You have to admire the "family club".
