Webster can only extract the best out of the resources at his disposal. Unfortunately, our VFL list is very average and the resources afforded them are not much better. Webster could be the best coach in the system but without the players, he won't get results.

The important aspect for me is that he develops our young players and gives them opportunities to be their best. If Watson is struggling for form and confidence in defence, it's a good idea to try him forward. Unfortunately too many coaches throw players out when they can't meet the standards they expect but theres also a responsibility on the coaches to develop and nurture their talent. Webster is obviously setting different challenges for Watson instead of giving up on him. Good coaching.

As for it being on the website, good I say. The reality is, the VFL and development coaches role is to improve and develop the players at their disposal. Winning is secondary. If Watson and other players are improving and giving themselves an opportunity to play senior footy, it's more newsworthy to me than a win against crap opposition.

Watson has been kicking some goals in the VFL. That is a positive thing. Will it translate to AFL? Unlikely. But give the kid a go before delisting him. I'm not sure why its such a big deal that the coach says he has played well in the last couple of weeks.
If we were really desperate to win that game, we wouldn't have pulled our ruckman and only key forward off in the last quarter.
It's about development and catering to Carlton's needs.

Yep, fair enough. Give him a decent crack up forward and a few games in a row to see if he shows something or improves. Like you, though, I doubt it.

I found it a big deal that the coach says he has played well, because 3 goals from 7 shots in the VFL isn't exactly setting the world on fire. I don't think Alastair Clarkson (who I've played under) would have done the same.

On another note, I wonder if they pulled Wood off early to give him a run next week in place of Warnock?

I'd have thought Watto showing something up forward is a positive...

So let me get this straight.

The player we drafted to be a forward is no good there (Rowe) so we turned him into a defender and the player we drafted as a defender is no good there so we turned him into a forward.

..correct, they go with the flankers we draft to be midfielders, and rucks to be forwards..

..how hard can it be..?..

Reid drafted as a forward - AA CHB.

Rutten drafted as a forward.

Laidler drafted as a forward - now the greatest defender ever.

Mundy played as a FB. Now one of the best mids.

The list goes on.

My point wasn't to say everything is fine. Just that it doesn't deserve it's own thread.

watto is going to find separation... and we have good coaches because watson was taken from defence and played forward.
he dosnt have the tools
