AND anyone coming in wont be able to get this group up and coming
its a 5 year project
better let mick prop it up t give any new coach half a chance to succeed,

its not as if playing graham , holman, johnson and cripps will fix anything.

we have major deficiencies ... for pace and ball carry as well as skills and height.

This is going to be at least 5 years and then its still wait n see.....

2020 minimum to be a srious football team

we will lose waite .. who do u bring in watson?

others might retire so there is a huge gap in just not them but your depth....

no coach can fix this in the short to mid term...
it will be a long term proposition....no matter how you look at it...

Half way through the first quarter, my youngest son commented "oh, god...they are playing touch rugby again..."

If my teenage kid can see the lack of effort and that we were mentally switched off - why cant our coaching staff see this??

It's all very well to lament this in the presser after the match...but geez, you've have two and half hours to fix a glaring problem that stood out like a beacon!!

Exactly.

Best post ever written on TC

All I would add is
Replace Murphy as captain make Henderson captain
Dangle the Gartlett carrot at Freo who would be interested in him if they don't win the flag because they can't score goals. We may get a first round pick for him
Trade Gibbs for afirst round pick

In order to solve the problem the organisation must realise the problem first an acknowledge they own it. Judging by our new President's speech he has no idea.
That's scary man

2011 - Finished top 6
2012 - Injury plagued seaon, spine was ripped out
2013 - 9th
2014 - Bottom 3?

Surprisingly, 25 players are still at the club since 2011. So in three years this list has gone from top 6 to bottom 3 in the comp:

Walker
Murphy
Gibbs
Judd
Simpson
Kruzer
Lucas
Watson
Yarran
Warnock
Robinson
Yarran
Brock McLean
Armfield
Scotland
Jarrad Waite
Henderson
Carrazo
Jamison
Curnow
Levi Casabolt
Touhy
Simon White
Ellard
Jeff Garlett

Players added:
Thomas
Docherty
Menzels
Everitt

Three years on, these players have got worse and we have fallen to a bottom 3 club where we can't beat GSW and Melbourne? seriously.

What has changed?

Coaching panel
Game style
Game plan
Hunger is gone

I think Carlton needs to wake up and stop listening to Mick's BS and put him under the blow torch. He will cull the list and put the team in the dark ages for next 15 years if he is left to save his legacy. You think the San Antonio Spurs won the NBA title this season because they had the best players? NO, they had the best COACH. The team beat Miami with the best playing list in the league, because they had a game plan and played as a team. They simply out coached Miami with 3 hall of fame players in their team. Before you look at a playing list, look at the coach.

Is he really that great anyway? 2 premierships with WCE in 92 and 94 with a awesome list and if it wasn't for a bounce over milnes head he wouldn't have 3!. The way the game is played now has changed a lot since he won premierships, maybe he can't adapt or has no innovating ideas left. Old coach will bring old coaching styles and what worked in 1992, 1994 and 2010 most likely won't work now. He will be sacked or memberships will dive dramatically, l can't even be bothered going to the games anymore when the game is played this way. There is no fight, no spark, players are not playing to a game plan. It is BS and in this day and age, you don't need to continually yell at players to get what you want to achieve done. Listen to Hinkley talk to players and you get my drift. Some how in 2 seasons he has got PTA from bottom 3 to being a flag fav!.

THE LIST IS NOT THAT BAD FFS!!

Thanks Rob.

Apathy is a feeling I experience every week about the result because our players seem to show apathy.

I look forward to the game each weekend but Ive become like a Saints, Tiges, Scray and Dees supporter...ehoping for a win but feel it may slip through our fingers because players didnt try to win, out coached or umpires having the last laugh.

We are a laughing stock, so come on Commission, give us those extra 6 flags to give us something to cheer about.
When did we win those 6 flags? Yesteryear.....1870-1896.
That's right. After all we are yesteryears club.

Remember as a kid when we had 8 flags, Pies had 13 and Bumbers and Dees 12 each?
They were miles ahead.
We caught up and passed them within 2 decades.

Dees havent moved (as we havent since 1995) and Bumbers and Pies have won flags in the new millenium.
We are stuck like the Dees have been since 1964.

Yep we're yesterday's hero and we need to get off the canvas otherwise we're staying there for a long long time.
Will we? Dont know, so come on AFL, please recognise the 6 VFA flags we won in the 1800's.

Supporter comments about the game plan are sounding eerily like the mid 2000s

Here I was thinking we were stuck in the 1980s!

Now we are stuck in the 1960s with Melbourne! This is much worse than I had thought.

On the bright side you can have a dozen schooners after the game to forget about it then drive home with fear of getting pulled over DUI.

Mick is spinning it and we are getting suckered. Taken along for a ride.

We need to wake up.

Use him to build a base through early draft picks and possibly a bit of discipline for the players but make sure we have a plan to move on and don't over contract him.

I don't know why people keep posting that he will.
The new pres said hes getting a contract extension.

I love it when they say he has the full support of the board

So SB. You really believe we might sack MM?

If the results keep going the way they are they will
Another insipid gane against the Pies this week then a loss to StKilda and its all over red rover pack your bags

Don't think so at all.
We lose these games, Mick and the Prez with come out saying we are now in full rebuild mode, and that Mick's been entrusted with the job.
To sack him now will just be lunacy.

So lets get all this in perspective.

We had a crap side going nowhere. ... and then we had a coach took us from the bottom of the ladder to 5th in 3 years.
How did he do that? On the back of Judd ... 1 player ... you got to be kidding me. Man ... thats an old chestnut ... and it does not make any sense to anyone who understands football. Ok ... so there was a rapid improvement based on the work of Dennis Pagan ... Don't make me laugh. So ... JUST HOW DID RATTEN move us up the ladder after 5 years at the bottom?

Which brings us to the Super Duper coach? Probably the worst decision the club could possibly have made. We are going backwards at super duper rate. The only clubs that are doing worse than us are Richmond and StKilda ... the rest are moving past.

How anyone could possibly say we are improving is beyond reasoning. Surely the penny will finally drop.

Unfortunately our new president will give the most overrated coach in the game another extension. All we can do is sit by and suffer for the next few years.

well... go through our list ....

the answers are there....

see wave.. the thing about everything is time

u have a few guys that arent who they were 4 years ago (time)
the game has changed alot if you havent been watching carefully (time)

if we can just roll back the clock we might have snuck into the eight...this year.. but the discipline of the new game and the teams doing things well would still be too much for us.

the teams at the top were always beating us
the teams beating us now are following those teams

notice nobody is trying to play like we are??... no defence?
and not anybody is stocking up on hbfers and using a gameplan around on guy.. everybody else is a support player??

why?
because that doesnt cut it....

we used to be the youngest... and then we were the oldest

funny thing is ratten once mention carrazzo as reason we struggled in his last season as coach...

Thats carrazzo...

truth is we lost to the previous years wooden spooner that year...
and they drpped away after that too...

means the world was changing but we couldnt see it...

wave... lots of people didnt see it.. so im not suggesting for one moment a guy like you is capable of picking up the subtleties of list management... dicipline and gameplans...
its obvious your palate to define such things is too primitive...

im just explaining to you..

four years ago stkilda were around flags...
collingwood had an entirely different list to what they have now... and they won a flag
transfused with talent is what every club needs...

were essentially the same team that played against WC back then.. with some age.. some retirements and some guys injured...

not sure what youre looking at.....

oh and yes... with 5 years of akin to draft penalties ....youre never going to be on the improve

there was a time people said 2 years out of the draft meant 5 years sentence.
what does 5 years mean if u add those 5 to the 2 a decade ago???
