Nephew told me at 150th dinner that Bombers have "won" only 14 GF's as 2 of their flags in early 1900's were as a result of them winning a round robin finals series.

So coupled with the 93 flag won in a salary cap breach year (which they would not have if in the NRL, just ask Storm), they should officially be at 17 flags after this flag table reset.

Time to set the record straight.

Less the 17 that should be removed just for being the biggest bunch of flower in the land and they'd have...

I hear Essendon* are planning to go to the Federal Court to make sure the AFL doesn't go back any further than 1890.
Allegedly a joint total of VFA and AFL premierships is unlawful and outside the powers of the AFL...
unless it shows they have the most.

The story above is right.
The scum didn't play Grand Finals in 1897 or 1924.
In both years round robin series were played by the Final 4.
In 1897 they won all 3 games.
In 1924 they won the first 2 and lost the third game to Richmond.
They didn't have to win the last game and there were allegations that they threw it.
Even more allegations were made regarding a playoff the next week against Footscray the VFA Premiers.
Stories of the day said players fought in the rooms after both matches.
A player called Tom Fitzmaurice quit the club over the scandal.

Carlton has won 23 premierships already.
In 1869 Carlton won the Challenge Cup.
Melbourne disputed our win.
The Blueseum has some good history on this topic.
Perhaps we should tell Fitzy to go back one more year and count 1869 as well.

And why might that be?

CFC is living in the past too much. It's the next chapter that is important.

I hope it happens, I reckon it's Eddies goal to be above us on the premiership ladder before calling it quits.....

It's to the clubs (and its supporters) detriment to get too caught up in this debate. As it is you can no longer identify which Cup is from what year anymore at the club and I think that's probably not a bad thing.

As long as the great Denis Pagan dual night premiership side is forever recognised I really don't care about the rest of our flags.

Here I was thinking I may never see another Carlton flag in my lifetime and we've collected 6 overnight!

We'll look back at that time as a truly golden age....

Has anyone said "that's the only way we are adding to the premiership tally, anytime soon?'

I'm hilarious

True. Don't understand the 1870 start date. If you're going to go back then go back the whole way.

It's all bullshit anyway, the only premiership that matters is the next one.

Give me something to cheer about: past present or future.

Great idea to recognise the 6 VFA flags along with our VFL and AFL flags.

We are a 'yesteryear club', so it cant hurt to recognise the 6 VFA flags.

Then, when the season is over, we can focus on the future, because right up to round 22 there is no future till we see some positive changes.
