We still have to play all the top sides at least once this year.

So far MM hasn't managed to make a dent (in terms of wins) in our poor recent seasons. In fact his game style has proved either too tough or ineffective for the playing group.

When we got 4 goals down on Friday I waited, fully expecting the flood gates to open and for us to get pumped. But we fought back and should have won.

So, what I'd like to see is the team, in these remaining games against the Hawks, Swans, Pies, Dockers and Port, show some real resolve.

They don't even have to win, although that would be nice, against the top teams just show us something.

I want MM to show he can turn, what is now considered an average list, into a competative hungry unit. That's the basis of his employment isn't it? To show he can do more with a team than whoever else had, or was considered, for the role?

So it starts again this week against the reigning premiers, on the big ground, against a team that has pulled our pants down for a decade. A team that normally does it in a canter even though sometimes it looks like we get close. But we aren't and every one knows.

Time to put up!

Are you good enough Mick?

Im quite optimistic , I think we may just have started to be ready for the season

Think Judd for Garlett will be the only change.

Would add Watson for Waite and Buckley for Tuohy also

Nah, we'll lose because they pay a free against us in the last minute

Hodge, Roughead, Breust, Rioli, Puopillo, Hill & Smith will annihilate us

Normally I'd agree with you, but I think MM will try to make it a it messy like the Adelaide and Geelong games. In those he clamped Dangerfield / Sloane and Selwood/Johnson. Which worked despite the second result.

He'll clamp Hill and one other midfielder and negate Hodge's ability to try and control the game.

Should be a good scrap.

Graham another quality game with a couple of goals, no doubt will be an emergency again, whilst McLean the truck will continue to play afl.... Go figure...
In's; judd and Graham
Out's; McLean and White
Simpson Jamison Everitt
Tuohy Rowe Docherty
Thomas Carrazzo Gibbs
Walker Henderson Yarran
Casboult Waite Menzel
Warnock Murphy Judd
I/C; Robinson Armfield Garlett
Sub; Graham
Graham, not quick enough?? Can't kick?? Can't tackle?? Sums up McLean, so Graham gets a few games as he is well overdue considering he's form in the twos, form deserves reward..

Tend to agree, it'll be a scrap. I haven't watched the hawks this week, but rioli, hodge and mitchell have all been hurt & banged up and they're playing at about 80% of their normal output. Roughhead copped a knock and might even be in doubt.

I thought the way mm set up the side on friday night was good. threw a few curveballs at geelong and in general coached circles around scott. Hopefully he does the same to bolton, and we're in with a little chance of at least keeping it close. 4 weeks ago, I thought we'd get hosed by 100 points when we had to play the hawks.

I don't think Gibbs will lay 80 tackles.

Pretty good point pew.

We need legs at the MCG and we don't have a lot to choose from.

Even with his head drop Jeffy is a better bet than Lucas.

I'd like to see:

In: Judd Buckley Watson
Out: McLean Waite Garlett

B: Buckley Jamison White
HB: Walker Rowe Docherty
C: Simpson Gibbs Yarran
HF: Robinson Henderson Thomas
F: Menzel Casboult Watson
Foll: Warnock Carazzo Murphy
Int: Armfield Everitt Judd (Tuohy)

Waite needs to go. Give Watson a final crack as a forward especially at MCG.
Tempted to swap Henderson & White.
Tuohy have a go at Sub. Form is poor.
I like our back 6 this way with run and structure and Simmo & Yarran dropping back as extra.

I'm hoping Graham gets a go but not sure this is best game to start and not as a Sub.

... playing watson would immediately be playing 21 against their 22.

People fall in love with his kick, but there's no point having a great left foot while you move like a 78 year old arthritee with a prosthetic hip. Forward or back make's no difference, he just gets exposed by AFL level competition. Hawthorn would kill him.

If Jamo is gone, White would come into the 18, Waite would have to stay, Rowe to roughhead, white to gunston. Waite down back as the extra back, move walker up forward, and I'd love to see Henderson and Cas swap roles. That brings hendo further up the field to get involved more -- and hopefully paly himself back into form), and then we'd get Cas coming out of the square hopefully in one-on-ones with the much smaller Gibson.

If we can get Cas getting the ball closer to the sticks, we'll be a much more effective front 50 team, imo ...

On a sidenote: Has anyone else Robbo's improvement with the ball in his hand? He's showing a little more composure, hanging onto it a little longer, looking for a handball, or on Friday night, showing a little candy here and there to buy some time. Compared to the first 4 years of his career where he'd catch the ball, panic, not look and hoof it up field straight to 'them' ... There's another guy we can add to Rowe, Cas, Buckley, Murph, Gibbs, Henderson, Yarran etc as improving under Mick.

I don't think we thought it would take this long to see improvements in our players when we announced MM as the new coach, but the last 6 weeks, we've only turned in the one heartless performance Vs the Pies. Even losing to the lions was more about skill errors, not dealing with the rain than it was laying an egg with our intensity and playing scared/ uninterested.

This week will test my theory. Usually after an inspired performance, we follow it up with a dud. Well we were inspired Vs the cats, now we have to back that up agains a physical, skillful team. Be interesting, if nothing else to monitor that.

I am certainly not in love with his kicking or his ability for that matter. My point is that we will not make finals this year so we should be doing our best to fully assess our list and see if there is any bits of "Gold" that we can hang on to. What else do we do? Play Waite? How many chances do we give him?

Look at the success of Rowe & Buckley this year. Both were effectively gone last year but a change in position and a bit of faith has made a huge difference.

We lack quality talls so we might as well give him one last try. If he still struggles then atleast we have given every possible chance. Letting him sit in the NB's achieves nothing especially given the lack of talent currently on our list.

The same could be said for Lucas. Play him off HB for the year and just see what he can do. He's on our list and we are paying him. He was an early pick. Say to the kid you will get 6 games in a row to prove yourself. It's now up to you.

At the end of the year we will probably turn over a minimum 10 players. The more we can see them at AFL level the better assessment we can make of them. You just never know.

I just want to see somebody smash the other "good bloke" when he invariably throws his weight around fairly of course during the contest.

As we are repeatedly told these things happen on the field, 2 players going for the hard ball, 50/50 contested possession etc etc........however it's always our mellow players left on the floor.

Lind in the sand rah rah!!!!!!!
