Sign him for two years / three years and then trade him immediately to where he doesn't want to go for the best we can get. Sends a message of those that think they can hold a gun to Carlton's temple within a year of free agency.

I don't think a contracted player can be forced to do anything against his will.

Has he actually signed yet?
The club should wait for the new president and the new CEO to make this contract decision, not the current guys who are leaving very soon.
5 yrs is way too long.

This thread is redundant.
He's staying. Deal with it.

All too often Sqibbs' output is on par with those mentioned (harsh on Cripps)

A mega deal for a player that has the playing consistency of women's toiletry is stupid... but we're a stupid club.

He won't get any better... he's had his chance and will not improve this club.

If a top 10 pick is available then we should grab it with both hands... without question.

I have said this before lets wait to the end of year .Lets see what draft pick (COMP) we get for gibbsy if its high pick wew have to do the deal.My decision is based on bryce whole career, his 25 now and has value dont miss this opportunity.(brisb game is an example)and if he gets 30 odd touches against pussies and we win I WILL STILL TRADE.

Ok how about I put it another way

Not inc Judd bec he's past his used by date and might retire anyhow, reality is we only have one 8/10+ midfielder and that's Murphy

Thomas is a 8/10 player but not a bona fide mid

Gibbs is nowhere near elite

I'm happy to let him go back to SA then throw his money at trying to get James Frawley across on free agency. Sorting a spine is a way more difficult thing.

He hasn't signed but the deal is agreed upon by both parties.
Unsure of the details.

All I can say is the club is negligible if they sign him for five years at $600k a year before a new president and CEO come on board

Don't care............. let him go.

He certainly isn't playing like a guy who deserves 5years.

Happy to let him go and chase after Dangerfield or just be happy with a pick
