White n Rowe are limited talent wise but they have had a fair dinkum dig
Mick made sure he highlighted this in the post game interview

Mick said he will identify the passengers from last night
Good on him
Time to stop aging them once and for all

If one interprets that as tanking then so be it

Play the kids time now

im speaking from experience too, i dont like talking about this but at least im speaking from experience.

i dominated my junior sport but i coasted, i could do as i pleased basically and perform

through representative teams, state teams, national squads

but i was lazy

i wasnt scared like our players, but i coasted like a lot of them

i didnt need to work hard - i was good

then i stepped up to playing against men - professionals who worked way harder than i did

i had the talent but had no idea what to do with it or how to utilise it

and i struggled

i finally had a coach who told me how it was, told me reality, blasted me, pushed me, pulled me up when cutting corners, told me i was wasting talent

and i hated him

but you know what?

it worked

didnt dent my confidence - because i woke up

i realised you know what?

@#$%&! you mate! - i'll show you, you old prick

and i fought and i worked

i still probably wasted my opportunities overall and i regret that - because i left it too late to fight

and the next batch of talented youngsters came through and then i got injured and then my time at the top was gone

i still had a pretty good semi pro career but whatever

anyways

these prima donna footballers in our team are going to wake up one day and it will be all too late

i think mick is lot like the coach who woke me up - a stubborn old prick, outdated ideas but knows how to develop.

i think our players just still dont get it - and they are going to regret their laziness and wasted opportunities one day

STOP THE PUSSY FOOTING AROUND, STOP THE EXCUSES AND @#$%&! WORK HARD, HAVE SOME @#$%&! PRIDE IN YOURSELVES

..daisy didn't have a good performance, but there was one bit of play I did see that is plenty of the reason why we got him.. ..tucked deep in defence, he handballed to a team mate, made sure he had space and time, and then was waving and yelling at team mates up field to work into space to provide a target.. ..and he wasn't just directing where to run, but telling them off for not moving..

..culturally we are very weak.. ..yes we miss Judd's heroics, but never forget that he coasted early, but at eagles he learnt how to push himself off cousins, it wasn't part of him either.. ..after the match, look at our team.. ..looks passed the dejected faces, and count how many look sick from effort.. ..who's hurting from all their running, and not just from the loss..

..we lack heart, and those with it (krooz and Curnow for example) suffer from having to kill themselves out on the field to make up for the slack.. ..watch them after a match, bashed and staggering from leaving nothing behind on the field....

Like Daisy.

He didn't let the team down.

Not his old one anyway.

well... at least he didnt play the game quaking in his boots like the captain did.

there is nothing worse for a football team than to have scared guys in your ranks.. and especially the captain.

last night it was again obvious to everybody watching.. not only does he dive at the slightest touch.. and goes down like hes been shot.. but hes scared.

u can improve your run.. and your touch .. but you cant fix a dysfunctional heart

murph is petrified of contact.. terrified someone might touch him...

that really isnt what you want in your team

..we piled a lot of that on Murphy, ask his old man.... ..I can recall it might have even been you that mentioned how upset John would get, those early years of Murphy's development, he would get smashed in the middle, with no support, no one looking after him.. ..in all honesty, I have never seen a kid thrown in the deep end from the very beginning, and left to get smashed week after week..

It would be more honest and honesty is something we need right now. How many more years in succession can we go around where we are erratic at best telling the same old tale? I mean.... it's hilarious.

..agree with the paf.. ..there's nothing wrong with telling people they are 'playing' like crap.. ..and while you 'play' like crap, you are crap.. ..play with even just the bare minimum requirements of afl, and they'd elevate themselves above crap.. ..plenty is the delivery, but even poor delivery is preferable to dishonesty, no matter how well intentioned.. ....the kids we 'protected' and 'managed' are now the leaders.. ..we can't allow it to continue, or we'll 'infect' the next crop..

sorry but if we are relying on fair dinkum efforts then it shows how far we have fallen

let's cut to the chase White and Rowe are battlers and nothing more

only playing because we have nothing else

reminds me of when David Teague was getting regular games during the Pagan years (although he did win a best and fairest)

..fair dinkum efforts are the minimum requirements, and if the talent doesn't have it, then the talent shouldn't be getting a game.. ..if all we have left is battlers, so be it.. ..at least we can be proud of them.. ..do you feel proud of them..?.. ..I feel proud of some, but of not nearly enough..

a battling team is a mediocre team

we are in this business to win premierships not to continually be mediocre

obviously real effort is required by all players but you also need sufficient A grade players to win premierships

I've thought the same grro

Gibbs is a PERFECT EXAMPLE. Thought his shit didn't stink whilst growing up. Was no no doubt guaranteed the number 1 draft pick by Uncle Stephen. Has coasted ever since.

Against the pies, we had our lowest tackle tally for the year (49), lowest contested ball for the year (117) and the third lowest 1%ers for the year (54). Our workrate was deplorable..

Couple that with poor on field leadership, an out coached box for 3/4 of the game and an unknown game plan, and you get 2 goals in 3 quarters.

the 8 goal abberation in the last term told us what this team stands for and its values when the contest is hot and when its not....

I wonder if Brock asked Robert Wiley at 3/4 time what they were doing wrong?

This might be true.

I always thought the more effort you put in (for the team), the more you enjoy playing the game.

There's a saying that goes with your experience grro, "Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard".

..I agree, but fakers won't take you there either, no matter how big the talent.. ..no point holding onto talented fakers.. ..cut your losses and try and 'cash in' and build up with fresh blood with heart and talent..

Great post. So many passengers in this team. They thought they could coast again after their "heroic" efforts of the last two weeks

One thing I'm getting very sick of is our so called leaders coming out and saying shit like "we didn't work hard enough tonight"

Like Jamison today

Here's an idea Michael (and based on last night this also goes for Marc, Bryce, Kade etc) , as a leader here is a novel thought ... How about you grow a pair and also grow some psychological fortitude, confidence and pride, and actually work hard and go in hard every week??

I know that must be a shock to the system, but seriously, instead of admitting every second week that you didn't work hard enough maybe you could try to work hard every week?? You know, like be consistent.

Go hard at the ball and the man
Chase and tackle hard when we don't have the ball
Equally, run hard when we have the ball to create options for your team mates
And try to do it for four quarters
And try to maintain this work ethic even when the ball doesn't bounce your way and the opposition jump a couple goals ahead

I dunno, maybe it's too hard to work hard all the time

No more lip service please
Actions speak louder than words

BS re Simmo......he was our best by a long way. But the rest, fair enough.
