Simmo should've been captain, with a view of installing Hendo in a few years.

Carrots seems like the only guy who's capable of leading us.

The only player we've had in the last 15 years who was willing to fly the flag was Fevola.

Agree about Simpson. As for Henderson, nice bloke but not a leader.

Agree!

They both clearly have fire in their belly.
It was repeatedly mentioned on TV how Menzel was trying to get the other forwards to man up, run hard and stick with their opponent.

And Dylan had to stick up for himself while Goddard the bully tried to get stuck into him (flower knows why).

Let's hope the current poor team environment doesn't discourage them and kill off the leadership potential in them.

Watch the first bounce. Murphy doesn't attack the ball at centre bounces
Momentum lost right there
Tone set
Game over

Murphy had his turn just before the third quarter. How many times do you want him to rally them with a pep talk in a game?

He shouldn't have to do it more than once, especially when they don't even respond to the first attempt.

Because he was getting sucked in. To his credit, he stopped listening to Goddard and performed better save for a pretty bad clanger in the third.

only one natural leader on our list last year - and sad to say that was Duigan....

(similar to a Nick Maxwell, limited ability but could naturally lead. The rest are token leaders who go through the motions - and that includes Judd. Our best leaders at the moment are comparable to say a Dean Rice or Sexton from the 95 GF side. And Sexton and Rice weren't at the leadership front in that 95 premiership team. We had a natural leader on each line, and a couple in the midfield. Our main problem has always been a leadership vacuum - a vacuum overseen by the Pagan/Eslhaugh regime and in effect since 2004. And Ratten never addressed this problem, but hope it would develop with time with Judd at the helm. And Judd wasn't the leader we needed. You need at least 7 anyway. And we had one and that was Duigan.)

Judd is our only true leader

the rest are making up the numbers

however, it is particularly hard for Murphy when half his team can't kick

It was a dumb decision from the start......."lets pick Murph because that's who the footy world think we should pick!!" Trouble is there is no standout choices. Simmo as an interim selection would have worked. Murph should be just concentrating on being a gun mid.

Carrots has been the standout leader at the club for 5 years. Perhaps if not for his triplets and recent injuries, he would have got the job. Simmo's the other one who's really stepped up. I suspect the Murphy decision was as much about getting to commit to the club long-term than anything else.

..by default, cos cousins got busted having too much fun.. ..judd did it for the club, but he never wanted it there, and he didn't want it here either.. ..he will lead by example, but a true leader will lead in many facets, cos his team is made up of individuals that respond to different techniques, and the team as a whole (mob) likewise needs more than just some intellect (that may be too highbrow for some to comprehend), and inspiring acts that can only be done so many times before you wear him out, like we have....
