..knockers won't ever be able to contest physically with most rucks cos he can't build up core strength nor upper body strength, shoulders too weak.. ..far too easily pushed out, and too often needs to drop to the ground to compete at ground level.. ....hasn't ever been one to work hard beyond the arcs, very much a middle of the ground type, will get fwd or back for the stoppage but not much more than that, just doesn't have the endurance to run and ruck....

..will need to elevate wood asap..

Attributing a win record to any player over the course of one season is an utterly useless form of statistical analysis.

Even if we took that as some sort of fact, here's another fact: with the rotation rules, anaerobic and aerobic fitness have become the prime physical performance attributes sought for an AFL player. The game is decidedly different one year on.

Kreuzer rises in this new game, as does Hampson. Warnock falls behind.

I say all this without even pointing out how few AFL games at a time Warnock has been able to play at a competent standard over the course of his career. Shows up for the month before September most seasons.

..updated ruck battle vs deeTs, I thought Levi had a decent match, first game up.. ..terrible in the ruck, much better when allowed to roam as a key forward.. ..I think we should elevate wood and develop Levi as a full time forward cos he really lacks ruck ability..

Warnock's bone density is poor. ;-)

Never takes a mark and we get little benefit from his hitouts, as per Essendon* games

--Round 5 Warnock & Casboult vs Minson
Warnock 38 HO @ 26%, 9 disp, 1 mark, 0 cont. mark, 0 mark i50, 4 tackle, 4 one%s, 0 goal, 0 goal assist
Casboult 4 HO @ 0%, 10 disp, 5 mark, 2 cont. mark, 0 mark i50, 2 tackle, 1 one%, 0 goal, 0 goal assist

Minson 48 HO @ 23%, 14 disp, 1 mark, 0 cont. mark, 0 mark i50, 3 tackle, 1 one%, 0 goal, 0 goal assist

Warnock doing quite well in clearance stats too.

Good game from Warnock yesterday... some of his taps actually went to Carlton players... not getting sucked in yet

BUT he needs to get to more marking contests... even to create a spill etc

..hey thanks for checking the paper, save me the time so that's juice..

..over a season most rucks will get their clearances, they also will have their clangers so I haven't included those stats personally cos I just accept them as being 'built in' to the role.. ..one thing I will say about knockers' clearances is that he has a slow kicking action that still somehow manages to get the kick off without getting himself pinged.. .... ..am surprised opponents haven't cottoned on to it cos he will kick out of a stoppage more than handball..

..my main gripes with knockers have always focused on his work rate and desperation.. ..marking I perhaps cut All rucks a little slack, I remember bombres madden talking about how modern rucks being more all rounders that their improved marking has coincided with the fading art of tap work and I think there is some connection in that..

..i know some think I reckon his tap skill is poor, don't..i just don't think it is great, he is quantity over quality and I hope over the season ppl will realise this by noting the hitout to advantage percentages.. ..and I am maybe getting bogged down in semantics, it's more just an argument over the notion his tap skill is exquisite.. ..nicnat has great tap skill.. ..but knockers does have height and his average tap skill gets the boost of extra height so it isn't the issue with him.. ..it was hunger.. ..he needs to work more than just between the arcs and stoppages.. ..he needs to push back hard, he needs to run off his opponent to provide a link and also to run his opponent ragged.. ..start doing this regularly and he can be A grade, he doesn't need to rip down marks and kick goals a lot, he just needs to do more off the ball because I still firmly believe that a combo of him and krooz of we can work it will give us ruc dominance all game, like late last year vs port then tiger final.. ..I will take less individual possessions and all game ruck win..

Was he not 2nd in the league in % hit outs to advantage last year? Or was that early this year? i can't remember. But being 2nd in the league as a % kind of refutes any claims to qty vs quality. It means he does both considering his raw hit out numbers.

I'm not sure if it was his best game for the club (I think the final vs Sydney a few years ago vs Mumford was probably his best), but is was a great game from him. He seemed to take 85%+ of centre square contests, got around the ground ok and some of his taps were genius - even some which didn't release a player but were right into their laps.

If his body lets him have a run at it, that's exactly the way he should be played - 85% of the work load. Some ruckmen are built that way, mentally as much as physically. I hope he isn't too happy with himself this week and and sets last week as the baseline.

..not entirely sure but from memory he did well with hit outs to advantage over course of season.. ..but it is total hits and also total hit outs to advantage, but not necessarily hitout to advantage %s, if you follow me.. ..which has been my hobby horse, and mostly it gets sparked up when ppl talk about his tap skill vs krooz.. ..I think krooz has better skill, but knockers has extra height so he will rack up more taps, so even with a lower hitout to advantage percentage he might end up with overall more taps to advantage cos it's a numbers game, you dig?..

..pretty much all genuine first rucks, need to play vast majority of time in ruck.. ..all they get better with consistency.. ..thing is it's taxing work and requires hard work all game week after week, and because he is so poor when not in the ruck it really makes it near impossible to form a genuine ruck combo with him..

It's amazing what happens when a RUCKMAN is given the No.1 ruck role on his own.

Warnock has never had a clear run at it. The Kruezer injury has been a positive in this regard. Warnock is now fit and getting consistent game time. That's what he has needed all along. Ruckman need to play in the ruck. It's how they get confidence and develop. There is no other way.

I expect him now to keep getting better and better and his marking and all round game to improve and that will be a huge advantage for us.

The plan was always that Krooze would hold down a key forward position. Injury and not knowing who our number 1 ruckmen is, is the reason why our ruck division has been unsettled.

We need more games into Warnock as he clearly is our best ruckmen.

..I disagree, knockers has only ever played as a ruckman, and then only as a main ruck.. ..yes body issues are his bugbear, but when fit he plays as a ruck.. ..krooz and hammer, due in part to knockers one dimensionalism,, have had their development 'broadened' in attempts to make them part time key forward back up ruck..

..I do wholeheartedly agree that a ruck gets better with consistency, more time in the ruck helps them because they get better individually but also their chemistry with the onballers and even their opponents gets better..

..I reckon there is some truth in that, those accurate goals he kicked in his first season had people lining him up as the next big forward, especially since we had traded Kennedy for Judd.. ..thing is, you don't invest pick one in a type of player, and then make big plans on remaking them into a role that they've never really shown an aptitude for..

Make up your mind. You've contradicted yourself in one single post. :?

He is getting consistently 80% game time now in the ruck because he doesn't have to share. He also knows that he is No.1 and has been given the responsibility.

He is now getting time and experience under his belt and is better for it.

..how so?, knockers has always played as first ruck, the few times he has formed a ruck combo with krooz, he has still rucked the lion's share.. ..he is always first ruck, cos he offers so little when not in the ruck.. ..not sure where I have contradicted myself at all..

..aside from injury, when has knockers had to do bit time ruck and another role..?.. ..he was sent back to reserves last season to try and improve his work when not in the ruck, I think with the hope that he could form a combo with krooz.. ..our problem, other than sauce who wäs a rookie, is that we invested two priority picks in consecutive years; pick 17 hammer, pick 1 krooz.. ..and for a third year running, invest heavily in a ruck; 2nd and 3rd rounders for knockers.. ..and all rucks are genuine prime rucks, and none of them were seasoned veterans either, in fact krooz's talent and ability and drive saw him play the most games with dual roles asked of him, in the shortest time with the worst injuries..

..if knockers can finally become durable, and maintain the urgency all rucks must have as a minimum, and work hard outside the stoppage, then as much as love the krooz,, there is no point trying to play him as a key forward and bit time ruck.. ..it's not good list management to have two first rucks in close age and games esperience, cos it's rare to have them form a genuine combo..

..I disagree that knockers has not been given the main role on his own.. ..he always, and can only ever,, play as a first ruck.. ..injuries sure, but when in the seniors it is main ruck or bust for knockers..............

Showing more and more the bonus of effectively having ONE Ruckman and a guy like Warnock as the pure No.1 Ruck. Just getting better and better with consistent game time. If only Casboult could kick because I like the combination.

On the flip side look at NicNat, Cox & Lycett. Looks at of whack and none look at taking control of a game.

IMHO that was the difference tonight in a tight game and contributed to us overrunning them late in the game.

..when has three rucks ever worked?, beyond a fluke win.. ..nicnat still lacks natural footy nous, and aside from the odd speccy isn't a strong mark.. ..freaky talent for tap skill.. ...cox is a champ, so why on earth try in bring Lycett into a proven strong ruc combo.. .?I reckon they would have done better wit just their usual ruck combo..

..knockers is working harder after the tap which has been the biggest issue holding him back, that and urgency.. ..but he will need a rest cos it's too much work for any ruc to carry all season long..
