I think whats happened at Essendon*** will galvanise them and make them stronger
Sure if the infractions come in they will hurt for a while but I cannot see Essendon*** feeling self pity and blaming the world for their woes for years to come like Carlton did .
When we were hit we turned on each other and went looking for that white knight to ride in and save us
The loss of draft picks was a excuse for under performing for years and yet now when we have an abundance of draft picks our performances are still quite ordinary .
Part of Carltons problem was the person we had in charge - He was political and people despised him for his politics and arrogance rather than what he was doing - We brought in a whimp and he rolled over and the whole club had that woe is me attitude .
The bombers wont do that you can see it - that week when they were handed the penalties they grouped together and come out and beat us . If the roles were reversed they would have ground us into the dirt.
Enjoy Essendon*** suffering while it last because it wont last long
Well, after we found out what he was doing, it didn't come down to his arrogance or politics any more. We turfed him out appropriately,
Without the efforts of the Unofficial selection committee at Carlton, Big Jack and/or most of that board would have survived that wooden spoon year.
They organized the petition to get the votes to call for an extraordinary AGM at Carlton.
They continually pushed Collo, to head up the number 1 ticket with MAckay and SOS on board, and the recruitment of Sticks and diesel from the Elliott board.
And remember, when that petition went through, the motivation for it was not getting caught for salary cap breaches, but not winning and securing the clubs first ever wooden spoon
When the AFl imposed draft sanctions and the 985,000 fine (which we still haven't paid yet), Collo was already in the lodge and it was He who had to deal with that and the 23 million dollar debt that Elliot had left.
Not many people knew that the debt was so high. (mainly the legends stand and other expenses at the ground). Its 5 million dollars now.
In fact a board member on the Collo board recommended that the Club should hand the keys to the AFL - ie go into receivership essentially and have the AFL bail it out.
And at our lowest ebb list wise, the AFL went BANG (when they knew other clubs were also cheating the salary cap)
But Evans senior really didn't care all that much about the blues, and how long they would take to recover.
What's that saying again...????
