I'm not convinced that Mick has a job for as long as he wants it.

I think Mick will have banked a lot of credits for the finals win in his first year,
but I think if we'd finished 9th the picture might not be so rosy.

If we fail for the next couple of years (god forbid), and Judd retires, Murphy can't regain his best form, we get a few unlucky knee injuries etc, then Mick could be in trouble.
No point in worrying about it, or moping around making sarcastic comments about Mick,
but *IF* Mick goes, I'd like to try the vanilla, boring, orthodox method of coach selection for a change - interview the best assistant coaches from the top 8 teams, and pick from them.

Just on that BV if we continue to have the extra around the ball, that means it is vital we give the ball to a precise kick (and probably a long one) or else our back line is in for a torrid year.

Its a big concern. Like I said ... its and Oldie but a Goldie. Looks like Darth Vader will continue to use it.

Coaches should be given 4 seasons before you really judge them unless they are hopeless.
Malthouse really only has had one draft to make the list his own
Post season 2016 is when you can give a firm opinion.
My criteria for reappointment beyond 2016 is a mix of answers to these questions
Have we played in a prelim?
Has the list been rebuiilt to sustain success?
Is there someone better on offer to coach us?

Its more vital that we run, spread and utilise the extra player. Teams have become experts at using the spare man. Go and watch teams train. A lot of drills are based on gaining a numerical advantage and capitalising on it.
It's pointless having an extra player around the ball and not using him to transition into attack. If we break from a stoppage with 3 players against 2 or 6 against 5, we should be utilising that extra player. Instead we're kicking to where the opposition have their spare sitting.
That's what creates the problem for our back 6. Conceding hard won possession.

i agree with doc
malthouse isnt here for 2 more years... hes here for as long as he wants the job ...

unless we bomb

but... he has a great career in making average teams competitive .. so if he does what his history suggests hes here for a while.

co-sgn.

Also, he mentioned during an interview on the weekend that he is already thinking beyond the current contract and would coach on if the club wanted him to. Which of course it will, unless it goes completely tits up.

His comment re; coaching was intriguing, actually. He basically acknowledged that the window had more or less closed, and the recruitment of was very much geared around providing support to Murph, Gibbs etc to bring through a new batch of kids and maintaining a high level of competitiveness in the medium term once the likes of Judd, Carrots, Waite etc retire. he certainly didn't say that they weren't planning/striving for success now, but it was a very honest appraisal of the list and what the planning was during the trade/draft periods.

Only for the fact that the likes of "Docherty, Everitt, Thomas etc" may have the potential to hinder or even prevent the "new batch of kids" required from actually getting to Carlton. It's a fine line and I've actually heard that arguement used to condone more demonstrably short term recruiting. Having said that, I'm not saying I'm against those trades on paper but there's always the potential to say one thing and actually do another.

That makes no sense, it's not like we are getting hacks around 30 clogging the list, we have got guys who should have 5-10 seasons in them.

If the likes of Bootsma, Lucas, Cripps, mcInness, Menzel, Graham etc can't come through it won't be because of lack of opportunity.

The Kangaroos game? I still have nightmares about the game against the Saints. Geez, how many marks did McEvoy take in defence that night?

Apparently Bombing into the forward line is the way to go. All part of our up to date successful game plan. Good to see we are persisting with it for another year.

Would you rather Mick in the coaches box or
Travis Cloke in a navy blue jumper?

We all but had Cloke signed sealed delivered until Mick was appointed senior coach

The comedy festival is only just around the corner - you'll be a major attraction with gold such as that.
