The club wanted Butcher who didn't get through.

nothing to be miserable out - we have a new coach who will in all likeliness run a broom through this club at seasons end

We have wasted a season waiting for Malthouse to learn what everyone in the football world already knew. That to me is the sad part.

If he has learnt his lesson.

His weekly letter makes no mention of it.

Couple of stats in there though!

So where was the plan B once Butcher didnt slide? Fact is we recruited mummy's boys who interviewed well.
Do you need to be a full time recruitment officer to know if a player has the balls to put his head over the ball? Surely
its very obvious to any casual spectator even at TAC level is it not?
Do you need to be a full time recruitment officer to know if a player has a turning circle bigger than the QEII? Surely its very bleeding obvious to a casual spectator even at TAC level is it not?
Do you need to be a full time recruitment officer to know if a player can actually get to a ball below his knees? Surely its bleeding obvious even at TAC level is it not?

I will never be able to run in the 100m Olympic sprint and its been bleeding F**** obvious for years. No amount of "time in the system" and training and all the other bollocks we
are told is required before we can pass judgment will change that.Sometimes its just Bloody bleeding obvious.
If you ask my our recruiting staff have got off very lightly. The picks they have just "butchered" over the last 3 or 4 years our countless.

Just stating:

12 Kane Lucas
13 Daniel Talia
14 Lewis Jetta
17 Daniel Menzel
20 Nathan Fyfe
21 Ryan Bastinac
28 Mitch Duncan

Reading through the whole list, it reads as a fairly ordinary list of players at this point in proceedings. We took Davies at 43, and there's not much quality after him!

I was watching kane at the famous preston city oval sitting in the grandstand and i see him handball to his bullant team mate and totally missed him .In the same game kick over teammate head causing a turnover that is when i realised we stuffed up again.how can a 1st rd pick make basic errors at this level.

This is what I don't understand. Did Mick not watch us last year? He really shouldn't need to be relearning stuff in games that was already evident from last years film.

Were comparing ourselves with Melbourne at trading.
That will make us feel good.

Imagine adding Fyfe, Jetta and Cotchin to our line up for McLean, Kruezer & Lucas?? :yikes:

Look re Lucas you can see what the appeal was he finds the footy has real speed

He is soft but maybe that's as much an indication our player development has been poor

If that is the plan then what is the point of getting a 60 year old to do it?

It's not Lucas's fault he was a 1st rounder so that shouldn't come into the equation when his disposal is taken into account. It would be interesting to see footage of Fyfe and Lucas prior to being drafted and assess who actually looked the better player, I know Freo were rapt to get Fyfe at pick 20.

Maybe our recruiting department thought if Lucas looks like Pav then he might play like Pav...... :garthp:

Maybe his experience of building lists, proven coaching success at two clubs, and those two big silver cups they hand out after the grand final to the teams that he previously coached seduced the Board. I know I am possibly showing my age and intolerance to the belief that age and experience is shit, and that youth, inexperience, enthusiasm and naivety is all that we need, but who else apart from Ratten would you have appointed and why?

Whilst believing that Ratten may have been a little harshly treated given our injuries, Roos didn't want the job, Matthews wasn't keen or maybe even considered, Choco Williams is a flower, so is Sheedy, who else who may have even the foggiest hope of turning this club around in seven weeks in the season would you suggest we put our faith in?
