Forget on-field performance. That's a huge gap in leadership at the club.

Who else in that 18-25 demographic looks like a future leader of the club? Let alone a walk up start in our best 22? Kreuzer, Henderson. That's about it.

We have about 10 players on our list under the age of 21. None of them have played more than 8 games, none in our best 22, several in contention for being delisted this year. Remember Melbourne's show of faith in Dunn, Gysberts, Morton, Cook? Is it any better to have such blind faith in Watson, Bootsma, Mitchell, McCarthy?

It's one thing that we have ordinary leadership at the club at the moment, it's another that we don't have another generation coming through that surpasses it.

That's not exactly right.

In the last three years we have recruited McCarthy, Mitchell, Rowe, Graham, Temay and Menzel that all have leadership qualities. You could possibly throw Buckley in that mix also.

You can say that only Watson and Bootsma may not reach any leadership status.

They may be a pack of drug-injecting, cheating pricks, but you can't deny that they know how to play for one another.

It's the same hypothetical from the past 3-4 years in a row, if a list has highly-rated as ours showed the same commitment* and willingness that those arseholes do when the chips are down (ie. BRAVE) there's no telling what we could achieve. I can only imagine how this team would've responded with the week that they've had, and 6 goals down at half-time against a red-hot Freo in greasy conditions in Perth.

This pains me to write like you wouldn't believe, and brings the bile well and truly up to my throat, but it's the sad reality of what we face.

Early in their 'rebuilding' they drafted lots of KP players.

Our drafting/development of KP players on the other hand...

Culturally we are not up to it, there is no TEAM ethos, no real accountability... these are things that Malthouse had at Collingwood at the end and I hope he brings it to Carlton, but culture does not change overnight and it it a long road.

Good assessment. Spot on.

Wouldnt you love to see a Big Brother house featuring Visy park and the Carlton footy club.
Just as the players are under scrutiny and we can watch all the playing horrors in our digital massive TVs with the thirty cameras and mics spotted all over the place... id love to see our board and staff subjected to that kind of scrutiny.
Would be the house of horrors.
People really dont get how bad we are and what an amateurish club we are....

Only one way to change culture.
Hacksaw .. axe and a big dose of chemo and radiotherapy ... needs a complete eradication of all cancerous cells.

BY the way what ever happened to the internal (but not independant) review the club promised itself...

WE did nothing in the Trade period in the first year of free agents.

That's not the Carlton we grew up with.

Reason: We couldn't? None of us really know..we have our theories but we don't know.
The spin is that MM is happy with the list.

Post 2013 we need our next CHF on our list: Josh Kennedy or the like.

Post 2013 we need another elite mid on our list.

Problem is who is going to spruik our club? Kerna? Swan? Pratt family? Mathiesons? MM?

It all starts at the top. We need a revolution from the President down...make us attractive.

Please preserve Judd to be on our list for the next 2-3 years.

As for the Bumbers comparison...not interested...but understand the desire to create the thread ...and expose another gap within our footy club's quest for flag 17.

I agree that's one area they got right (in comparison with us). It's the same when you compare Hawthorn and Richmond all those years ago now (Deledio and Tambling ahead of Roughead and Franklin).

They're most certainly not my benchmark, but they sure as shit get more out of themselves* than our group of "stars".

In how many years and how many of those weren't under duress? You don't draft players because you need them, you recruit them because you want them. We give up second round draft picks then 'over-think' what we are left with. There has been no time for actually constructing a list in any conceivable form, it's mostly left to 'bob-each-way' and panic selections.

I can't believe their on field culture is being raised, don't people remember how pathetic they were in the second half of last season and in the final against us in 2011????

No effort, no heart, weak.

Once the 'us against them' mentality wears off (along with some other things), they'll fall from 'grace' again.

We just lack confidence and perhaps may have some issues in the background - can be worked out
