1. Don't get injuries
2. Especially don't get injuries to your starting back 6
3. It is important to take your chances in front of goal
4. Our list is capable of winning a premiership

Swans have an excellent culture, and are obviously brilliantly coached. Everybody plays their role, or they are out of the team.
Their tackling and pressure today was brilliant. A well deserved premiership.

This culture that everyone is on about has been within Sydney for a long period of time. They have been very fortunate to acquire and also develop the talents of a host of very mature men in their leadership group for close to a decade.

Young players coming into this environment get the best chance to develop.

For this reason supporters have to understand that sometimes a club needs to retain on their list mature level headed players despite them not being the most flash. I have seen Jude Bolton burn the ball many a times but it is his work rate, willingness to put his head over the ball and maturity that helps the Hannebery's and Kennedy's become the new leaders of the club.

Think back to when Murphy and Gibbs started ... how mant mature men did we have in our leadership group ?

Sellars put it quite succinctly on ABC today and 360 last wqeek, when he tipped the swans....

They play the Swans way....
they do their job week in week out...
everyone knows what they are going to do on the field and if they lose then it wasn't good enough...
Stick to what you know and follow structures and team rules....Plan will survive....

Having watched the game..... watch the last 15 minutes....

Hawks were all over them having kicked the first 2 of the last qtr.
Swans just did what they do and "manufactured a goal... this built momentum and they continued without any real conviction and scored 3 more.....

Great TEAM beat a team with champions...

Recruiting. Again much has been said, so I wont go through it again. Except this - in 2009, Sydney traded in Kennedy, Mumford and McGlynn, and drafted Jetta, Reid, Rohan and Dennis-Lane. You can transform your list in one trade/draft period.

This; the sudden influx of quality players and the enthusiasm they bring can work wonders. It's culture building in itself. It doesn't work trying to build a side in dribs and drabs. It wouldn't surprise me if you can trace most modern premierships to a side having one or two strong trade/draft periods in quick succession. I'm also wondering if they wonder too much over where 'said' players are going to fit into the side, either. Just get them in and develop them.

By the same token, you have to get the 'young players' in to develop. People seem to fail to realise that the two sometimes clash and we need to balance it so they don't. That's the sticking point and an extremely essential point it is, too. The swans leaders might have won them their premiership on the day but it was the kids that provided the spark for the season.

Its not about older players v younger players.

Sydneys older players have leadership....... You wouldnt call anyone on our list a REAL leader.
T Bird? Juddy? Carrazzo? Russell? Murphy?? Waite?? Warnock??

That leadership will come with a culture that bleeds the club and winning flags and nothing mediocre will stand in their war.

Weve had a mediocre culture... meddiocre aims.. and a mindset its all going to just happpen

Generally they are draft players who can all win their own footy, they aren't scared to go in. Jetta isn't an inside player but they have enough ball winners that they can afford someone like Jetta.

Generally draft good kicks of the ball, left footers too. While Hawthorn also draft good kicks they aren't all willing to put their body on the line all the time - someone like Suckling is very flaky but a pretty good kick. Hannebery/Jack nice left footers but also put their bodies on the line.

So contested ball winners and good kicks. Look at our list and you see some with one of those traits but not many with both. Our recruiters don't appear to value good kicks of the ball.

From this I'd like to see us improve our recruiting department so we don't overlook star players like Jedda and to get switched on negotiators/ sales people who can persuade potential star players like Kilkenny to sign with us instead other teams.

I said a couple of weeks ago about how the only 3 additions to the side that we torched at Etihad last year were Parker, Pyke and Morton. How things turn fast. They were building to something, whilst we thought we were already there.

Which reinforces as many of the said the fact that's more about an attitude and culture rather than just the individuals in a side.

If Sydney was Carlton we'd probably be saying that we need another big defender with Richards/Grundy being only 193cm, Pyke is no good as a second ruck, the midfield are good inside but need to use the ball better, and we'll never win a flag with the likes of Mitch Morton in our best 22.

They have a really good spread of goalkickers. Media/fans get hung on 1 big name, but they had 10 guys kick 20+ this year including their core midfield players (Mcveigh, Jack, Kennedy, ROK, Bolton) We had 3 (Betts, Garlett, Waite).

A good run with injuries has helped. Amazingly 18 guys played at least 22 of the 25 this year, and another 4 playing 17-20.

Parker hurt his shoulder, McGlynn hamstring, Rohan did his knee, Goodes Calf, and Mumford back. Bolton of course played through with that torn knee but that was about it.

Some of this is luck, a lot is good management. Malthouse talks about needing a strong 30 to win a flag, how Sydney would have gone having to delve into the 22-30 ie Dennis-Lane, White, Armstrong, Walsh, Everitt etc we'll never need to know.

But cant take any credit away. Well done to Sydney yesterday, fully deserved. Overcame a hoodoo against Collingwood at a pseudo home ground and won 2 away finals.

Watching Young, Rioli, Smith, Suckling, Ellis, Puopolo, Shoenmakers, Birchall, Gunston etc yesterday just had me even more bewildered about how that mob has physicallyl bullied us so badly the last 8 years.

Mitchell, Sewell, Franklin and Hodge are genuine, Lewis is courageous but a chest beater, but as for the rest.....

Swans went on the front foot.

110 tackles in their face and harrassed them out of playing their game.....just swarmed them

We usually look at who to tag......

and again... another grand final that shows... stats mean jack shit...!!!
