Didn't know where else to post this. David Parkin spoke at a local Aus Day function. Afterwards I overheard him telling some footy fans that he knew 7 mins into the 95GF that we'd win. At the start of the last qtr he told the match committee to sit back and enjoy the last quarter, and was met with a clipboard to the back of the head from a member of the MC who wasn't convinced we were home.

Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to chat to him, as I had to go and he was caught up. After hearing that I genuinely wanted to ask him, conversely, at what point of the 93GF did he realise we were stuffed.

The 50 metre penalty against Geelong in the first quarter is where we had the game won...

By the half time fight, Geelong were completely gone.

I used to work with Billy Brownless in those days and he told me about the amazing pressure of losing and having to drive back to Geelong was overwhelming. He said you tried and tried to get it out of your head but it just kept building.

Geelong were a great team during this ten year period, but kept meeting teams like West Coast, Hawthorn and Carlton that peaked dramatically in one or two seasons. He remembers West Coast's backline being brutal to play against (Jakovic, Worsfold were masters of the "late tackle")...

When Dean Wallis flattened Mil Hanna about 15 minutes into the first quarter and not one Carlton player remonstrated.

I snagged a late GF ticket for that game and flew back from Merimbula where I was on holidays. Wife (first wife) was not impressed. Couldn't get on a commercial flight on GF morning so paid for a ride on a chartered plane. My gut started churning 10 minutes into the game, and when Mil went down we were gone. Worst and most expensive day at the football ever. But as my brother said to me. "How would you have felt if Carlton had won the flag and you weren't there?"

I know it was a rhetorical question!!!!

And as for Jordan Russell I know that as well - I also know he isn't a turd.

Would not have won the '99 prelim final without him. Can't forget that.

Ask not what my club can do for me but what I can do for my club.

Loved Hamill as a Carlton player.

Still do.

Jack [REDACTED] that one up.

Don't blame him for leaving at all.

@#$%&! so did I.....I had him earmarked as our next captain. We had begun to rot away back then...and Hamill was a casualty.
