Look we will get the clearance problem sorted out and we will be away. We know that teams are going to come after us physically now and we can use that knowledge to our advantage. Just antoher challenge to be overcome and we will.

Yes.
and, hopefully, once we are out of the centre with that red leather gal, we can use our fleetfooted army to win.
It would be good to make the Bombers andcrows look like over heavy lugs, as we skip away toward goal.
Just two lugs short of the full premiership team maybe?

My expectations on carlton are entirely grounded on what i see wce and Essendon* being able to achieve, that we can not. We should be ahead of them!!!!!!
Can this be turned around? Yes. But is it likely, no. I think this coaching grp, needs to turn carlton into a top 4 team this year or else they have not been able to deliver what other coaching grps have and thats not good enough.

The next coach then will need 2 years before we can expect a premiership, so the wait will go on.

..Jolly's a bit of a knobend isn't he..?.. ..slagging off a coach 8 yrs or so after the fact.. ..talk about nursing a grudge, he has to have sore nips now.. ..Daniher, for a dee's coach,, got them into more finals than miss during his time there, they reached a GF, and i think haven't had a 1st round exit from finals in his time with them.. ..players definitely played for their coach, and in his 'sacking' year had a crazy injury toll to their list, mostly hitting prime players.. ..on-field they've been a shambles pretty much ever since.. ..also of note, was the co-incidence of eagles rise in form with Daniher going there as an assist. coach..

agree Kahuna and there was a few in here that wanted Daniher as our coach after he left Melbourne - only dealt with him at the margins but in my experience could not get a better coach or bloke and if was too straight down the line -maybe thats what we needed given our present inability to get the best for whatever reason out of our players - a top 4 list playing like a bottom 4 side - one thing about Daniher is that he got the most out of what were fairly ordinary sides

I seem to remember Jolly being on the outer with his team mates at the Swans also for some reason as well. KNOB!

What an absolute wanker. I cant believe that he wrote he used to ring the coach the night before a game to confirm he was in - no wonder he didnt get onto the paddock til almost half time.

Have to admit the few times I have had had the pleasure listening to Daniher couldnt help but be impressed by him and the clear manner he communicates in.

DJ does come across as a sook and squealer. Constantly complaining to umpires, squealing for free kicks, not gracious in victory or defeat. In short, un-Australian. No surprise therefore that he responds much better to stroking and nurturing, (as do most).

Tough gig being a senior coach working to accommodate everyone's needs: Inspirational leader, role model, decisive decision maker, brilliant tactician, active listener, lateral thinker, intelligent and flexible, nurturer of young talent, development guru, effective delegator, articulate spokesman, charismatic marketing head, and preferably a much adored former champion.

How does Ratt's square up? Well, I think the consensus over the last month is that he falls short in tactical nous and cognitive flexibility. But lets judge him fully at the end of this year. I suspect he'd be a consensus leader, kind and nurturing with young players, welcoming, and well liked. But there's a few other coaches working with him and senior players who have a responsibility to add a bit too. So hard to judge.

Of course if we string a few wins together soon we'll think he's a genius again

Jolly comes out saying he thinks Daniher was shit everyone rips into Jolly and coaches start sooking about it

Very next day Sheedy comes out and say Watson was shit and he would have traded him

Not a murmur from anyone

Double standards here dont you think

Jolly was right Daniher was shit

..except that back then, Watson was shit,, and Daniher got the dee's to more finals than not, including a GF when everyone expected it to be blues vs dons,, and with what most would agree was a good list, but not a great list..

..no double standards, you're just wrong in that opinion..

In answer to the thread title. It's almost impossible from outside of the club to really know for sure. But I'm guessing we've got a good coach, but perhaps not the great coach that we probably need to win a flag.

"We don't just want to go out there and win by 10, 15, 20 points, we want to go out there and put teams away when we get the opportunity to."
Ricky Henderson

This is what I was hoping for after five years at the helm.
Unfortunately our coach has not instiled this mentality in our players.
We have the players but our coach and staff seems not to have pushed this part of the mentality on our playing list which I think is sad as it is the prerequisite to achieving your ultimate goal. :screwy:

Until we start to get injuries. I think the idea of putting teams away is now moot.

Well, regardless of whether Ratten is good or bad, I think the signs were there that we aren't the kind of side that would just coach itself.
