There is no doubt that we should be working on ways to diversify our revenue stream, this needs to be driven from Board Level.

If we get some all embracing motherhood statement from the Board prior to the release of our next Financial Accounts that our "Revenues" have increased by X% - I will in the words of Terry Wallace "Spew Up".

I would prefer a statement along the lines of that whilst our revenues have increased due to our gaming venues coming on line - this has been invested in the following revenue creation areas:

- membership growth
- investment in the "Northern Blues" brand
- investment in merchandise & leisure wear

etc etc.

Well said AGRO!

This is a fantastic initiative by the club and one that I have Championed over the years as well - its success will initially be measured by how our club executes the plan for the Northern Blues going forward.

As I have said elsewhere there needs to a long term plan and vision for this initiative (at least two generations ie. 30 years) - if you can't recognize this and the potential our club has to gain in owning the Northern Suburbs of Melbourne then you can "yikes" as much as you like.

Jimmae we would be at least 2 million behind the Pies in football department spend and they have pokies.

Like I said, it shouldn't be growing that rapidly. The majority of that would be increased wages. Eventually they'll stretch the budget too much and get cast off to the open market, with the Pies selecting a cheaper alternative.

They've already dispensed with quite a few assistant coaches and support staff in recent years (of which we have been the beneficiary).

No PR strategy behind a 'wiping out debt campaign' necessary. Sticks will plea to the faithful to buy a membership (and a large majority will believe they're helping clear the debt by doing so), but the debt will begin to be wiped out through pokie revenue.

The Futures Fund has been boosted to $144 million, and all clubs will also receive $6 million over the next five years, and the same broadcast rights dividend they were given between 2007 and 2011. In exchange for this, the AFL will oversee the financial practice of a number of clubs. Naturally, these clubs will be those with 'ongoing concern' regarding their financial status.

What should happen is the setting up of a steering committee, funded by the AFL future fund, to start preparing every single club in regards to being profitable without gambling revenue. It is possible.

I betcha $100 Carlton make the Final 4.
I betcha $100 Carlton make the GF.

I bet Carlton missed out on pokie $$$ in our Dark years whilst some of the clubs we admire made $$ from pokies.

I really like Agros post.

Make something out of pokies so we don't have to rely on them when they become a sin again.

Never liked the Bullaants because I was a big VFA fan...and hated the Collingwood association.

Have to say both Agro and believe it or not Synbad always liked the idea of making a corridor our own.
I'm not from there, but its a filthy big corridor...reaches the Northern Knights plus some.
Guess that makes Kreuzer our corridor boy.

Don't take me out of context...go back and read my posts again if you don't understand them. Maybe this is the wrong audience and I need to dumb the message down a bit. Carlton Facebook page perhaps?

It was mid-2006. What we spoke about was in context of Bruandwo and the ALH. Not exactly something to excite the masses on here, but very relevant to 2012.

So Bruce went into the club power brokers and said boys I have some pokie machines that some other AFL clubs are getting the benefit of and I would like to hand them over to the Carlton Football Club. Our response should have been .... Thanks Bruce but we think the pokies are a blight on society and we could not possible consider your offer even though it will help us to wipe out debt, increase our footy department spend etc. etc.

Hmmm, we want to eradicate our debt - great idea - It would be comforting to know that CFC is healthy balance sheet wise and a going concern.

But it is more than just eradicating our debt. Ongoing and sustainable profitability must be achieved or we will continue to be in a cycle of debt eradication after the each new cunning spending plan.

And it wont be one area that does it - all areas must contribute to the sustainability of the club.
Memberships - the more the better.
(Scared to ask, but why can't we achieve collwobble like membership numbers?)
Pokies - I personally don't agree, but I realise that CFC is on the bus and isn't getting off - so make the most of the funds
Sponsorships - keep improving
Stadium Deals - cannot get any worse...surely...
and now my ignorance of the club has left me exposed to name more of the other income and profit streams.
So I agree, let's not focus on one area as our saviour, it needs a co-ordinated plan.

As an aside, it is not all about revenue - profits pay of the debts.
(who cares if you have the biggest slong if your don't have chicks, that said a small slong and no chicks would be worse hey Saints).

And can we find a way to ensure that we don't rely on the AFL to prop us up, and further that the AFL can't penalise our revenue and profits in the future?
