you guys are spoiled

last years captain club premium gold worked out to like $45 a game for an 18 game membership

$45 over here gets you a crap seat if you are lucky enough to be able to manage to get a ticket to the game

I have no interest in being an AFL member.
I support Carlton, and want the money to go to them, pretty simple.

AFL members with club support are counted as a club member and money is contributed to them financially.

Are you Gold or Silver AFL?

Is it the same amount a Carlton membership would give the club?

I'm contemplating AFL membership as a couple of mates have suggested I look into that instead of club membership.

The afl membership website is next to useless though - wondering if anyone could tell me where AFL members sit for matches and whether there is a reserved seat type option? (ie similar to our gold level)

you, um, sit in the AFL Members  You know that large section of beige seats in the southern stand at the g'? Also have the option to buy a reserve seat for any game for an extra $6.00 or so - including etihad (while available). You can also upgrade to a reserve seat package, but I haven't done that. Well worth retaining it once you achieve full status, pretty much guaranteed a GF ticket when we make it.

I believe that the club gets the same benefit as if I was a standard club member

Yeah finally found the seating arrangements I think - so if I'm reading it correctly, its basically on the wing bays 16-27ish and your choice of all 3 levels? (based on http://aflmembership.com.au/match-infor ... upmatches/) and for etihad only about 6k seats? (what happens if those 6k are taken? - can you sit anywhere?

Also other questions
- 2012 - silver afl members = 670 (including joining fee) <- what is the actual joining fee? (ie whats a renewal? where is the gold option?)
- reserved seat package - how much is that? (assuming thats the equivalent of the club gold?) <- where is the seating for these guys? I noted that in the 2011 club membership brochure, there is an option for an AFL upgrade thing for AFL membership which is b/n 170->260. Is this the reserve seat thing?

Atm, I'm a silver 18 game member and am contemplating an upgrade to either club gold or switching to an AFL membership thing so any suggestions on what's 'best' would be appreciated :)

I didnt realise until this year and the no hats for AFL Members that the club only receives $138 for a club support membership. Was always under the impression it was the cost of a full membership.

I might look at doing an upgrade with the club for next season.

I was of the understanding that it was more around the $160 mark which is great.

in 2011 i was a silver 18 member and looking to upgrade to a reserved seat in 2012.

Quite often i go alone but there are 5 or 6 games a year where my old man/partner/mates will come along.
If i have a reserved seat for the year, what are my options for people coming along??

Pretty sure that this is the figure that is the Recommended Retail Price by the AFL that should be charged by an AFL Club for a standard 11 game club membership.

Sorry Dane, but if you don't like the venting, then kindly go forth and multiply. The difference is an increase of around $155 according to the club when I spoke to them today. All this "crying" as you so disparagingly like to put it, is about the fact that having paid the extra $$$ to have the privilege of watching the Blues get belted from prime viewing position, now that the sun has risen and we finally get a chance to view the Blues dish it out from said prime viewing position, the club decides they will jack the prices and screw the loyal supporter who has been there through the bad times. If you can't understand why this would irk the members affected by this, then you either aren't affected by it, or money is a non-issue for you. A 27% increase in the price of a membership to keep the same seats we have been in for the past 6 years (for myself) is not OK. As someone else said, the bandwagon jumpers are coming and taking what loyal supporters have had through the shit times.

And if there is such a 'demand' for these seats and waiting lists and so on, can someone explain why every week we have seats spare around us that are usually filled by opposition supporters buying tickets through ticketmaster. A bit of Apple marketing going on... If you tell people they are rare and hard to get, they will clamber to try and get in early to make sure they get one.

My biggest gripe of all is that loyalty from members counts for diddly squat. A greedy little grab for a few extra dollars at the expense and exploitation of loyal carlton people smacks of a board lacking in ideas of how to stay financially ahead of the game.

We are Carlton, @#$%&! everyone else including our members.

It's Jeanne Pratt's fault. Isn't she looking after membership?

How many years since the last pay increase?
Why shouldn't the higher paying members get access to the better area?

A short sighted view considering money goes to the club if you nominated Carlton as your team of choice. Being a full AFL member with Carlton Club Support guarantees you a Grand Final ticket.

So you are saying that the Club gets equal money from both?

AFL Full Member with Club support - I don't really care how much Carlton get directly. At the end of the day they get a crap load from the AFL anyway so in my view regardless of whether it goes to a direct Blues membership or AFL with club support it'll hardly send them insolvent.

As a full member I'm guaranteed a GF seat particularly if the Blues make it, and I love being able to go to any game during the year which I can't do with Carlton.

I probably chip in a Blues membership's worth of cash anyway. I went in for 2 $200 raffles this year (I think it was $200) and regardless I don't think the size of cash you tip in equates to the size of genitalia so seriously who cares.

But I think those who are being asked to step up to a new level of membership at extra cost for the same entitlements as previous years have a valid point to complain.
