I thought Ellard was okay as was hoops.

Laidler will probably get a run in the Bullants having been out for over a month.

Early guess.

In: Waite, Robbo, Curnow & Duigan
Out: Jamo(inj), Austin, Armfield, OKeefe?

I also believe the form of Rusell & Thornton has been average for the past few weeks.

I thought Russell played quite well today, given the bombardment coming in.

I would have had TBird in our best 3 today. The ball was in his area a lot and he got lots of rebound for us. He took quite a few contested marks and was generally very good. He has his haters but today I thought he was really good. Russell wasn't bad and don't really understand the grief he is getting either.

Old habits die hard.
I thought he was okay today. His year hasn't been as good as last year, but I think his pre season was interrupted and this has affected his output.

Russell had 19 touches with 8 marks. Not too shabby. I don't remember him coughing it up time and again. I guess in a loss people look for someone to hang it on.

One thing I have not heard too much of today is how good WC were. They really played well. Their press is amazing. I did not like watching Carlton players in our backline as they looked up field for an option and were time after time forced to kick sideways or back. That is a credit to WCs forward pressure. Have not seen anyone do that to us this year. You can bring all the players you like back into our team but we will still have to deal with that pressure and we will have to do it well because today the Eagles were much better than us.

Yup. Their forward press was exceptional.

Will the Tiges be able to replicate it?

Well, with the week off the boys should be nice and refreshed for the Tiges.

Tbird was good today apart from headbutting Nic Nat.

Waite and Robbo to return next week according to Ratts.

Wonder if Laidler will come straight back in or play in the Bullants? Would possibly depend on Duigan's fitness and where Bower is at.

At this point I'd definitely drop Ellard & Armfield. Austin was good in defence and was swung forward only because of Henderson's woes up there. Lachie needs to get on his bike in games, and into the gym more after them.

Warnock gets a reprieve to work himself into touch against a lightweight Richmond ruck division, but another average week and I'd be interested in throwing Lachie into the mix so he gets plenty of run and touch in a game.

Away from that, I'd want to wait and see how the list stands on Tuesday, as we could be missing names while we gain several more back. Carrazzo, Tuohy, Austin & O'Keeffe all could conceivably be squeezed out of the team without having done little wrong.

jimmae I normally enjoy and agree with your posts but.....

The move of Henderson was based on Austin's inability to cope down back. That was apparent when Jamo was on the ground and when he was off it. Hendo was poor up forward but the "cute" delivery in the first quarter of six kicks being below knee height did not help. My partner is a West Coast supporter and she commented about it before I did!

Next week? Well hopefully Juddy isn't constrained by the mooted flu. Hopefully Waite, Duigan and Robo come in to replace Austin, Armfield, Jamo (injured). I will also countenance Curnow or McLean for Tuohy.

I was sitting five metres from the Carlton interchange area in row A (yeah special tickets). When Jamo came off the first time he was having his calf (not knee) rubbed for 15 minutes. He warmed up again gingerly and came on to the backline. Next time he went off he had the same calf rubbed again for 10 minutes. He then limped into the forward line which was just a farce.

Hopefully his "knee" or "calf" improves in the next few weeks as his frustration was palpable. Hendo to Reiwoldt next week

I think Austin did very well down back, my only complaint would be that he took himself out of the play with a few fair hits on the opposition, at times where perhaps he should have kept his feet in order to disrupt in other ways.

There's only so much a player can do when the delivery is good, and he ticked a lot of boxes. You'd obviously love every defender to have the read of the flight, the hands and the closing speed of Jamison, but it doesn't work out like that. Austin brought the ball to ground against more fancied opponents and was right on their tether most of the time. He's also more than competent with the football in hand which is a welcome trait.

To me it looked like West Coast's preference was to play 1-on-1 football at the beginning, with a lot of their numbers in the immediate area at stoppages. Slowly they worked some zone play in (mostly through a roll down or a spare man in defence), but the stuff we really failed to respond to was the 1-on-1 play.

They matched our run and spread and we had no space to execute going into the forward 50. That plus our usually poor defensive line as part of our press (i.e. too high with too fewer numbers), and we were made to look silly on the rebound.

I watched the first half thinking we'd get a real chance in the second as West Coast were playing a taxing game that was seeing them blow their chances in front of goal, and we did, but ultimately we didn't seem to have the petrol in the tank this week.

Nailed it with this summary for mine, our total inability to take or even defend a mark in our own 50, gave them massive confidence to work softer back toward our goals, knowing the danger was minimal. The only difference to last week was Sydney's lack of forwards to capitalise and our stoppages work rate and player quality in defence.

Tigers will try to exploit our lack of height after watching the WC game, and will try to use Riewoldt and Vickery the same way WC used Josh and Lynch. Jack may be injured, but we have to prepare for him playing. We need players back and fast. If we have to play Austin, then FFS give him some support.

It's stating the bleeding obvious, but we need to control the middle. We were smashed in the clearances, as were they against the Dees. But they've got Martin, Cotchin and Foley who can all get the hard ball. If they're able to get first use of the ball as often as WC did yesterday, we're screwed.

Carlton are better this year than the rubbish they showed yesterday. It was rubbish. The worst football display in 12 months.

Hopefully the roll out the TAGHLAY this week so we don't get rick rolled by the Tigers. They will be sniffing an upset too, so the boys mindset has to be ferocious.

Hopefully the rest to a few players means they are fresh as daisies.

Agree that Thornton was easily in the best today with good defensive ability and very good springboard forward - one of the few who could do this as the Eagles prevented any fast breaks. Yesterday was the sort of game in which Thornton elevated the views on him for sure - Im sure Ratten took note and dont think he'd be on anyone's 'average' list.

I don't follow the Bullants but is Matthew Watson any chance for a Senior call up this week?

Heard from a couple of Tiger supporters that Riewoldt has been playing with broken fingers. which would explain his limited influence of late.
