waite could go back and replace laidler and play henderson up forward, curnow will come in for russell, a few shuffles here and there and we will still have a good team, i think brock will get 1 more chance.

Options are: Lucas, Houlihan, Watson, Henderson, Bower, Touhy, Curnow, AJ, Warnock & Kruezer.

Lucas: talented but struggling ATM.
Houlihan: Lacks match fitness,sub?
Watson: Still young and seems to be going through flat spot.
Henderson: Finally over injury and starting to show form.
Bower: Coming back from injury. Dont think we can have he, Jamo and Thornton in same side
Touhy: People saying he replaced Casboult. We have two nominated rookie spots he could use. Has to be close.
Curnow: Will be close this week.
AJ: Around the mark.
Kruezer: Tempting but I would like to see us be patient with him.
Warnock: Hammer was okay last night, flip of the coin.

O'Keefe may be an outside chance with a good performance? Good replacement for Laidler.

For me:

Houlihan for Russell
Curnow for McLean
Touhy/Henderson for Laidler depending if they want to go taller or smaller?

Hopefully a few will step up for Bullants this weekend.

Love to see Lucas in as I am a fan but simply cant be picked on form or fitness.

Looking @ Port's curent fwd set up there is only Westoff & Schulz down the spine with height, so Jamo & Thornton cover them, Gray (Army), Motlop (Gibbs, didn't he do a number on him early last year?) and then Hitchcock in a pocket & Broadbent on the flank. So you think a smaller/mid size player may get the gig with Yarran to take one position and then picking from Joseph or a newby like Tuohy, McInnes or even ROK.
That all changes again if Duigan is fit too, and he'd be pretty keen to play back @ home in SA and he'd take his usual position in the back50.

Only the inclusion of Daniel Stewart, who I rated last year, would stretch our defence.
Hendo in would give us a good view how we'd function with 3 (mobile) talls up there with himself, Waite, Setanta (in time to be Kruezer) and the option of an extra tall down back as all 3 can switch back & forward.

Would prefer Hendo in over Houlihan at this stage, who can have further run with the Bullants.

Laider russel McLean - out

Davies curnow AJ - in

Have armfield start on and AJ sub

If duigan is out bring in o'keefe

Not worth bringing in Henderson because I don't want to see him play as a f@$&ing Bachman. We recruited him to be a foreward now wait until he hits really good form as a foreward in the VFL Then bring back in!

You have to question why he was played. Ratten said in an interview that JR had tightness in his hammy before the game.

If that's the case (and I have no reason to doubt) then that is pure stupidity to play him.

Gibbs or Scotland can go back to cover Russ. Hoping Russ just has a tight hammy like Yaz had a few weeks back and only missed one. Joseph in.

Touhy in for Laidler if what Physco says is true and he is available.

Hopefully Duigan plays.

Personally I could see hendo coming in for laidler altho that removes a bit of mobility from our defence. For Russell, I think they will seriously consider a way of getting touhy in the team if possible. McCarthy is really not ready, he wil get snapped in half. I don't think houla is ready yet and I also have a real concern houlas lack of pressure abilities will hurt our team, but time will tell on that one. Personally, I would love to see keefe have a go, he is strong enough to play afl, his disposal is good, only prob for him is he is a rookie as well.

From what I've seen Henderson is a much better runner than Laidler, and I'd think Hendo would take CHB which would release TBird onto the 3rd tall and Jamo at FB.

I have seen O'Keefe and I like how he moves and kicks. Has a strong body now and he can link well, but I have never seen him as an AFL player so I trust that he is worth a shot given that there's lots of VFL watchers who love this kid, but he's a rookie and can't be selected on the same grounds as Tuohy? I'd love to see Tuohy get a game.

Last night convinced me once again the importance in having Armfield's pace in the backline.

I'd like to see Yarran selected as a wingman and playing the loose man in defense whilst the HF presses up to man Yarran's opponent. That move needs practise to make it a subtle artform. I'm no coach though.

B: Thornton Jamison Armfield
HB: Duigan Henderson Yarran......and Tuohy can fit on that line too.

Leave Walker and Waite forward...and Kreuzer is only weeks away from filling the other KPF role....the missing link.

So...
Just listened to a nice long interview with Jammo.
He reckons Duigan is fine.
More surprised if Rusty didn't play than played.
Laidler..having scans.

Asked at what point he thought they would win the game...
replied 'During the warm up.'

Man, he sure is getting a lot of media love right now.
i hope he is basking in it.
deserves it.
Good for you Jammo.
Spoke really easily and well too. a tad serious but that's fine.

You have to question why he was played. Ratten said in an interview that JR had tightness in his hammy before the game.

That means nothing. Every athlete has a pinch or a niggle, they check with the physio staff and the doctor when they're concerned by it.

Lucas: hasn't played for going on 3 games, so he's a no.

Houlihan: maybe, another VFL game coming up to make it 3 on the trot.

Watson: maybe.

Henderson: yes.

Bower: needs time to confirm his gait is being improved by his routine

Tuohy: not eligible; took Levi's elevation, which was for Mitchell, and Mitchell is now playing in the VFL reserves. Can be elevated in round 12. We only used 1 of our 2 nominated rookie slots, but we can't use another after the cut-off date.

Curnow: I'd say he'd be straight back in given the 9 day break and it not being a leg injury.

AJ: I'd prefer not to.

Kreuzer: Two more VFL games at the minimum.

Warnock: I'd prefer to give him a rest.

Get the pressure right in the midfield and F50 and it doesnt matter who plays in defence.

I heard him too. Wouldnt it have been great if he had launched into a scathing attack on Mathew Lloyd when asked about him. (Lloyd was on radio at the time).
I guess he is too polite.

It's a pity Watson/Lucas are having form/fitness issues because they would have been the ideal replacements for Laidler/JR....

As it is, subject to what happens tomorrow, I'd expect Hoops to come in for JR (assuming JR needs a week off). Scotland/Gibbs to replace JR in defence, Armfield to start in the 21 & Hoops to play as Sub.

For Laidler, I'd bring in Hendo. I know that's replacing a medium with a tall, but I think we can afford it (Hendo, Waite, Setanta, T-Bird & Jamo are all pretty versatile and can play on different types of opponents at both ends). I'll revisit this if Hendo as an ordinary game tomorrow for the Bullants.

If Warnock's OK, I'd bring him straight in for Hammer.

AJ might come in for Brock, but I'm tending towards keeping Brock in for at least another week. Bower & Kreuzer need at least another 2-3 games in the VFL and I think Curnow needs another week on the sidelines. White (injured) & Tuohy (ineligible) are the other two that would have been in strong contention if they were available. The likes of Austin, Collins (returning to the VFL this week), Davies, Kerr, McCarthy & McInnes are a bit further back, IMO.

In: Hendo, Hoops, Warnock
Out: Laidler (inj), JR (inj), Hammer

I reckon we should consider bringing in all our ineligible rookies this week.
