PRO

Injuries at least came at the right time with Port and Brizzie next two weeks. Houlihan next week and Kreuzer week after? Curnow will be right in a week or two, Bower is back playing VFL, Austin is back, Tuohy is playing good footy. There will be replacements over the next couple of weeks.

How long did it take Cox, Jolly & Sandilands to come good :?:

Jolly is the best comparison, the other two crap on Hampson the same age.

Pro:

No one wants to listen while they're busy laying the foundations to say 'I was right and the first to right a player off' but it typically takes until age 24 for things t come together for ruckmen.

Murphy 145 DT. :thanks:

Judd and Murphy both could share the Brownlow.

With Pendlebury and Swan taking 3rd and 4th

Pro:

Judd - Outstanding in the conditions
Murphy - Having a carrer best year
Ohalipian - 3 goals, was handy around the ground, definetly doing enough to hold his spot
Jamison - Solid down back
Thornton - Now playing to the coach's instructions.
Robinson
Gibbs
Scotland
Carrazzo
Waite

Cons:

Injuries to three defenders will test our depth.

With our gameplan changing from frantic rebound footy through the corridor to a more team defense, slower movement around the boundary and lock it in once forward we are finding that Thornton is more suited and is doing quite well in a collingwood style box defense. Still early and we need to see him take on a good opponent and win but things look a little brighter for tbird.

PROS
4pts winning very ugly
Murph, Robbo and Juddy as usual
Chance to set ourselves up ag weak oppo in the next few weeks.

CONS
Injuries
Jeff G and Yazz doing a Davey with insipid marking attempts. Don't want them injured but that is a bad look whoever we are playing
Not McLean's fault but he is slow to the point of being stationary. Hard to believe that two men who coached him at Melb judged he would be an assett. With Curnow fit he will be lucky to play 20 games and he is on good money for three years. Look at the list of draftees we had to pick from with the pick we gave up and weep (Nat Fyfe anyone? ) Drafting is hard but picking guys that have played 100 AFL games shouldn't be. Then you can be wise both before and after the event. The Dees offered him a one year deal for a reason. Did we get him to sprint over five metres before we drafted him?
Diabolical field kicking, with Carrazzo the main culprit

PROS:

Judd Murphy Gibbs in the midfield just brilliant
Midfield support from Robinson Scotland Simpson
Jamison Duigan Yarran are in AA contention. Jamo a shoe in.
Waite is hitting some good form. Finally my hero is stutting his stuff
Setanta...he creates his own luck and never says die
The 3 Amigos Garlett Walker Betts worked well together, Garlett's pressure is AA quality
Armfields pace is a must for finals footy.
The ability to maintain the pressure and desire for the whole 100 minutes is an important ingredient for finals footy.

Kreuzer Warnock Henderson Houlihan Bower Curnow will be back in the team over the next few weeks :smoking:

CONS::

Should have won by 70 points easily...kicking at goal still our No 1 problem
Injuries to Russell and Laidler  Hopefully not Duigan too.
McLean...last night said it all for me...I was wrong
Carrazzo...I know I stick up for him but other than his strength he really was clumsy...a liability (last night)
Hampson...yes I'm still a fan, but I can see how he frustrates supporters...he will improve. Setanta is ahead atm

History is filled with drab, coasting wins over struggling teams, where Carlton barely gets out of second gear and can still double their score.

Enjoy it!

Yeah, my thoughts too. I actually thought that was Tbird's best game for about 5 years. (Contrary to most on this site, I thought he was lucky to stay in after the Geelong game. He looked ok but did some incredibly soft things).

However, if he plays like last night, he's going to be such an asset with his marking, experience, and ability to swing forward and catch some unaware team off-guard and snag a couple.

The Hampson marking debate is an interesting one I feel.

Plenty of big players, with bigger reputations, get first hands on fewer marks in packs, and very rarely take them.

The sort of pack mark Hampson goes for is such a rarity, thats why when they are taken (see McEvoy and Kosi a couple of weeks ago) the crowd really responds.

If it was Riewoldt going for those marks and not getting them he'd be commended on breaking the pack or creating a contest. Reputations afford you latitude.

The easy chest mark out on the wing wasn't great.

Pros: 4 points, 5 Brownlow votes for Judd/Murphy
ONJ - she is a star. Beautiful person, great presence and if she wasn't lip syncing, still a good voice. Thought Robbo did well and Jimmy showed more heart than any of his team.

Cons : Injuries . Bloody injuries.
Some of the inside 50 entries in the 1st half were diabolical
The spectacle of AFL footy on a Friday night. I think this is worse for Bailey's prospects than a 100 point thrashing.

Not sure if it is a pro or a con but was having a beer with some friends after the game (all Melb supporters) and a another random Melb supporter came up to us while we were debating how Jack Watts is going and how he hasn't come on as most people thought he would have

Melb supporter: Well Watts isnt the only tall draft pick not to have come on. I don't think Kreuzer has done much.
Me: what do you mean? I think he has played bloody well since he has been in the system.
Melb supporter: nah i dont think he is really played any good games he would be about the same as Watts and he has been in the system longer than Watts
Me: Ah I think he is way ahead of Watts and he hasn't played for about 12 months with his knee injury as well.
Melb supporter: Yeah but I saw him out there tonight and he made a lot of errors.
Me: Huh? He wasnt playing tonight! He did his knee last year and has only just come back in the 2nds.
Melb Supporter: well who was your ruckman then? that was Kreuzer wasnt it?
Me: Ah no that was Hampson and yes he didnt have a great game.
Melb Supporter: oh whoops I take that back then. I guess Kreuzer is going better than Watts.

Not that bad...

At least he didn't refer to Watts as number four.

Pros: We got another game into McLean ... he will be ready soon ... :smoking: :smoking:

Cons: Robinson's disposal is horrendous ... admire his courage ... but turn overs are out of control. I have always pushed for his selection ... but ... you have to be kidding if you think that was a great game by him,
