That Capper one was bad. Our family used to make the 3 hour treck to every home game as we had family membership (what a bad year!!!). My younger brother decided to go for the Bears that year (because of Capper). When Capper lined up from 50m I had a sinking feeling as nothing had gone right for us that season. Capper them kicked the longest kick of his career and the ball sailed through. Everyone stood in the stands stunned, except my brother (who was 9 at the time), he jumped the fence and gave the finger to the Carlton Cheer squad then ran towards the Bears players to pat Capper on the back. Can laugh about it now but he almost got left in Melbourne by himself that day!

Good work CK95 - you're welcome on the Blueseum at any time. That's a phenomenal list...and it just screams....'ARTICLE'.

We'll make something out of your list (when we get resources)

Cheers

From the Blueseum

In 1989 the oval at Princes Park had not as yet been extended as the Legends Stand had not been built as yet - it is common knowledge that the 50 metre arcs were only 45 metres out - so Capper's kick was long for him but only 45 metres and definitely not 50.

Which is why I go back to Malcolm Blight's kick in 1976 being only 60 metres tops.

I've also been thinking about this recently, particularly in light of Friday night.

I still can't believe that we lost a game after the siren in three consecutive seasons (2000-2002). How we lost the Hawthorn game in 2001 I'll never know; that was daylight robbery.

Round 1 1982 - Greg Wells gets a lucky free kick on the siren against Fitzroy and kicks a point to draw the game.

Ben Harrison late in the game Rd 22, 1997 after Richmond stormed home in the second half to sink us close to full time and kill our finals aspirations.

Also Barry Mitchell playing for Sydney in Rd 1 1990. Sydney had not beaten us at Princes Park for a millenium and we led by 45 points at 1/2 time.
Somehow they got back and stormed over the top of us. Mitchell roved off a pack about 25m out directly in front at the Heatley Stand end and snapped a goal, breaking their hoodoo. Heartbreaking really. We drafted him via Collingwood on the strength of that.

Makes me think that given our drafting history of recruiting blokes who played well against us, that jarryd blair will be wearing navy blue in 3 yrs time ....god help us, please dont let it happen.

And who can forget 1988 at Princes Park when we kicked 3 goals in 2 mins to beat North on the siren. I can't remember who is was (maybe Bear) as I had left after we went 14 pts down in disgust.
Will try to think of more

I'm not one to complain but am I correct that after wells kicked that goal for North campo had the ball in the middle, siren went and as he went the torp a norf player crossed the line but wasnt picked up because it was part of them celebrating?
You can also add Dunstall kicking his 100th against us at Waverley, everyone ran on and the game was as good as dead.

I also think the pass to Wells should have been called back or deemed out of bounds because he didn't kick over the mark.
I'm not bitter

Absolutely correct about that game. Campo was having a kick from about 75 metres out when he siren went. The north players ran over the mark and technically it should have been a 50 metre penalty. Then again the way our luck was running at that time Campo would have missed anyway.

Who was number 48 in the Ben Dixon one, the Carlton guy that got run down and free kick against? Bloody hell, took a week to try and kick it.

Your right woof  I always thought that Braddles should have done more to warn the kid before he got caught as he was running near him.

Heartbreaking stuff that game.

Great list CK.....well done.....we might keep you on for another week...........

Can anyone else recall a game at PP when David Kernahan of all people kicked a monster goal from way out on the flank to give us a winning lead in the last Qtr?

Only thing I can think of is his very first game against the hawks.

Andy Phillips snap @ VFL Park v Pies mid 80's, was it the sealer or the match winner? Choke up when I think of what a premature loss he was.
