I just wish we had the smarts to open up some of these shots so blokes can settle and nail them. That, or get faster at putting boot to ball so we don't have blokes under so much pressure; we have a few players with a long wind-up.

At the other end of the scale there's Setanta and Robbo who could pace themselves a bit better, so I guess it works both ways.

The turning point of the match, from the point of view of any potential flogging, was when at 28 points up during the third quarter, completely in control, Waite fluffed a kick intended for Bryce Gibbs in the forward 50.

There was no pressure, Gibbs was wide open, and a goal would have put us 6 straight kicks in front with about 45 minutes to play. It would have been game over.

As it was the ball rebounded out, was rushed end-to-end and St. Kilda took full advantage of poor execution, cutting the margin to 22 points and reestablishing a foothold in the match.

Little errors of judgement and lax execution is what cost us putting more goals on.

I think it’s a good topic and, last night especially, it would have been much more agreeable to watch had we buried the Saints early. I think the running and fitness points are well made.

Equally, we need to remember we’re still a developing side and while it has been disappointing to see us fail to maximise our scoring chances so far this year, the very pleasing sign is we are showing the ability/willingess/belief to hold on and win those games, even when challenged or forfeiting the lead late in the game. That ability to fight back into a winning position, regardless of whether we should have already iced the game, is one development of our team that is both welcome and is pleasing to watch.

You can slowly see the players developing a calmness and maturity on field that will need to continue on our inevitable path to premiership success!

Yes, well said Camel.
That is a good sign from the boys. That when faced with an improbable situation we are pulling through. This is what really strengthens a team as Ratts has said and matures the (young) team. In a way, this is more heartening then 'Finishing Them', so to speak. There are many steps involved in building a great team. What we are seeing is normal transformation from a good team to a solid team. The 'No Mercy' attitude will soon develop, I have no doubt. With maturity and confidence this will be customary proceedings for the team.

Enjoy the rest of the season fellow Blues supporters!

I think both us and the bombers will slide in the 2nd half of the year in terms of wins. The pleasing thing is that we're snagging wins when we need to. Hopefully we're wary of 2010, we go through 'the tough run' at 7-4 and crawled our way to the line losing plenty in 'the easy run'.

North have always been a tough team for us to beat, regardless of form. That game last year was a killer.

and whilst listing disconnected thoughts, I actually see McLean as being very important in the 2nd half of the year.

I reckon nearly all teams will start dropping games in the second half of the season, particularly the young sides, and it will open right up. With the exception of the few absolute floggings most games are finishing with 44 very exhausted players this year.

We have the bye this round and many of our players have commented on how buggered they are already. We don't have the bye again until Round 23 - I reckon Rounds 15-20 could be very difficult especially as we play all the old rivals in that stretch. As bluehammer said we really need to take advantage of the "easy" part of our draw and get the wins in the bank against Melbourne, Port, Brisbane and WCE.

But are we as good as Essendon* yet

Of course not! Because we only beat Gold Coast by 119, where THEY beat them - courageously - by 139!!
